There is another b&w picture of Keith from the front with that Tele; the mike stand figures right in front of him. That shot is somewhere in here. I figured that was this guitar but since it is b&w one can't be 100%. Did not know about the color pic. Now I wonder if the Jagger and Keith shots are from the same session. Jagger and Keith are dressed similar, almost matching. They used to do that frequently early on.

I guess you mean this one, it's right at the start...

I don't think they're from the same day or anything.

There's more pics of Keith with this guitar from Paris? 1966

... and also from a satanic majesties session.

... okay maybe - just maybe! - i've figured out what you mean: you mean the shot of Mick at home
is not necessarily from the same day as the shots of Keith at the 2000LY promo shoot?

Here's a close up of the 'sonic blue' telecaster.

But, is the above telecaster the same one that Brian used for the JJF promo!?

It looks blue here...

But...

And... is it possibly the same telecaster seen behind Bill here?

i'm losing track of which Tele thread we were talking about Keith's butterscotch Tele with no humbucker, but ...
hell, this one's as good a place as any for it, i reckon! Vedran pointed out that this guitar turned up in Budva:

- Budva july 9th 2007 (don't know who took it, sorry!)

i remember it from the Bridges to Babylon tour; and although i just got the Biggest Bang dvd
and am a little too blown away at the moment to be sure i'm focussing properly on Keith's pickups
i have the impression that he used it on at least a couple of numbers at Austin - is that right?

Is it only me? I love these guitar facts.
Do we all dream about a place or a section at IORR called 'Tools Used' or something similar.
I know the IORR board don't have the great tools available as ezboards, novogate, invision etc.
Don't change IORR and the IORR board, we all love it. Just find a way to collect all this wonderful information about guitars.

Information (boring word) coming in from a thread like this is music history. Should be kept better than in a thread.
So many of you guys (gals?) make my day, thanks!

who's got a photo of the Tele Keith played on Shine a Light in Vancouver 06 - and why didn't anyone mention it before?!
ahem, pardon - what i mean is: i just moved on to disk 3 of the ABB set and lo and behold:
a filigree Tele. in the "featurette" & duet with Bonnie Raitt.

With sssoul,
My friend just landed with the ABB from the US. Will be in my hand in 27 minutes. Do I hate delayed BA flights...
Haven't even decided where to start.
OK, let's stop the crap/ABB there. But looking forward to it. Another thread.

when in doubt, start where the artists suggest - that's why they call it "disk 1" -
but wherever you start, enjoy the hell out of it, TE.
and Keith has got some interesting Teles in it, so it's right on topic! :E

I found a nice pic of Keith's '67 sunburst on a guitar forum.

is it original or a replica?
it wasn't mentioned where it came from.

Does Keith use the stock pickup Tele all the time now (instead of good ole Micawber)?

In Warsaw last month I noticed he used this single coil Tele on quite a lot of the tunes, instead of Malcom.
Btw, I'm a bit confused due to different lighting on different images, but how transparent is the butterscotch coating on Micawber? Is it possible to see the grains/texture of the ash at all on that one?

Best, RB

yeah Keith is liking that one this tour! as well as the blond with the rosewood fretboard.
i think though that we have to specify which one we're calling Malcolm (or Malcomb or Malcom - i've seen all three spellings):
i always thought that was the nickname of the natural Tele, aka #2, with the pretty grain showing,
but i've also noticed people saying Malcolm is the sunburst Tele. ohh yes, it's just the Mysteries of Keith! :E

as for the visibility of Micawber's grain: i'd rate it as "not very".

Yeah, I assumed it was:
Micawber: Butterscotch, Black pickguard, Single coil + humbucker
Malcolm: Natural, Black pickguard, Single coil + humbucker
#3: Sunburst 67', Black pickguard, Single coil + Open humbucker

Then there's the two butterscotch on this tour:
#4: Transparent butterscotch, Black pickguard, 2x single coil
#5: Butterscotch, White pickguard, Rosewood fretboard, 2 x single coil

Not an attempt to summarize all of Keiths Teles of course, just the main ones. The "Skull" Tele has a thread of its own.

smile: ahh see i wouldn't call that one butterscotch - i described it as cream-coloured once,
and the good Open-G almost fainted, since he knows it as blond; this time i went out of my way
to avoid that, and see what good it did me :E

Keith does also have another butterscotch Micawber-alike, with a bit paler finish -
there's a shot of his Licks Tour guitar rack around here somewhere where you can see
the three butterscotch buddies in a row.

and i reckon the Skull Tele can have its own thread until it turns out to be a keeper :E

Slightly off the point - but does Keith have relic jobs done on his Teles? i.e. Does someone beat them up on his behalf.

I had my Tele for 15 odd years and it just wasn't getting that worn in look no matter how badly I abused it - so I had some guy in Denmark St give it a good going over and now it looks sweet.

Keith seems to beat them up pretty good without outside help.
of course most of his have been around a while longer than 15 years,
even before he got ahold of them, so ... patience please! :E

nope! Micawber's been around too.
but Keith sure was giving the stock-pickup one a work-out on the last leg of the tour.

meanwhile, just to keep the Keith Tele threads connected:
here's one about the "filigree" Tele Keith used for Shine a Light at Vancouver: [www.iorr.org]
and the Skull Tele seen at Copenhagen and the second London show: [www.iorr.org]

This whole thing about the names for his Teles is a bit of a press thing. The only guitar that really had a name was his 5 string Zemaitis, which was called 'Macabre'. I don't know when he started mentioning names for his tele's, if I remember correctly it wasn't until the late 80's.

that's how i recall it too - still, the names are sometimes handy for specifying quickly which one we're talking about
(when we can agree on which one is which, that is!)

And I noticed that Keith on the Bigger Bang-tour in Europe this summer used a single-coil 5-string Telecaster blonde again?

yep - it turns up on the Biggest Bang dvd several times as well.
that's the one RobberBride and i were talking about above -
it's so interesting to see it getting a work-out again

Dear Soul,
you are right with your objection. That guitar is blond indeed, in comparison to the other "butterscotch" ones. I have just finished reading TOM WHEELER's Fender book, where it is mentioned that some of the old Fender colours and custom colours are very hard to define because they tend to change so much over a period of time i.e. blue ones turn to greenish and so on. The paling process on them old nitro-lacquered bodies is very stunning. That's the explanation for the different "butterscotch-blondes". BUT, there was also a colour simply called "blond(e)" (both, with "e" and without are used by FENDER themselves) and that's definitely the colour on Keith's rosewood Tele (used for Flip the Switch on Btb Tours and for Paint It Black on ABB Tours).
Nowadays there's a colour on the FENDER Classic Series that's called "White Blonde" which is about the same colour as the old "Blonde", but then again it's all Poly-lacquers which makes it different again...
Well, very complex but highly interesting! :-)

Yeah, but that one (if I remember correctly) has got an "open" humbucker (without nickel cap) just like the sunburst '67...

> and i reckon the Skull Tele can have its own

That's the Waylon Jennings Tribute model. I would imagine, that Keith got it from someone on the tour and used it a couple of times on the tour (for Shoine A Light)

Y'all remember that "silver-pinky"-Tele used for "Satisfaction" on the Licks tour ?
Supposedly Keith got it from ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons. Ronnie got the Stratocaster model to match (but didn't use it on Licks, though I'm not sure....)

Keep on the good work and the pics comin',
Cheers,

Don

Those "House of JB's" guitars... Ronnie played his House of JB's stratocaster on all Licks shows - during Satisfaction, when Keith was playing his House of JB's Telecaster - after he was given this guitar. That happened quite late on the tour though, as Billy Gibbons gave him at one of the nordic shows where ZZ Top were the opening act.

Thanks to Rich/WeSellGuitars, I found out that Ronnie actually has two similar House Of JB's Stratocasters these days.
