I wonder if anybody that actually did hang up the poster that came with the Emotional Rescue LP
I did.

You and ChrisL are cooler than me. I've only held it up once or twice, and chuckled.

I’m guessing the fact that I actually did hang that poster made me the opposite of cool. Thankfully, the Christie Brinkley poster made me seem somewhat normal to my friends.

I have a feeling we'll get an ER reissue at some point. Something inside is telling me we'll get a TATTOO YOU reissue first though.

TY is imo the sole candidate left for a reissue [from the 73-83 era].

But a VL expanded re-release might be a good surprise (one day). I don't think it'll ever happen as it would be a double-edged sword for the band = it would prove that in 1993 they had more than decent raw material but they opted to work on the wrong demos, hence the so-so quality of the final album.

("Sparks Will Fly" "New Faces" "Moon Is Up" "Sweethearts Together" "Suck on the Jugular" "Blinded by Rainbows""Baby Break It Down" are among their worst songs ever).

I have always loved VL and particularly Baby Break It Down but hey-ho it's all down to personal taste.
I respectfully disagree.Sweethearts Together and Blinded by Rainbows are great songs.Blinded has great lyrics about the Irish troubles and it is the rare case where Jagger sings it straightand heartfelt without any sarcasm or camp.It also features a great solo by Wood.Sweethearts is a beautiful ballad period.Indian Girl,Where the Boys Go ,Dance,Down in the hole All About You, send it to Me are total crap.Emotional Rescue is one of the bands three worst albums together with a bigger bang and dirty work

Personally, I like VOODOO LOUNGE. Just far too long though. Trim like 3-4 tracks, add "Jump On Top Of Me" and the album is a lot better:

Love Is Strong
You Got Me Rocking
Sparks Will Fly
The Worst
New Faces
Out Of Tears
I Go Wild
Jump On Top Of Me
Blinded By Rainbows
Baby Break It Down
Thru and Thru

It's a B- album to begin with. A handful of good songs. Hell, GHS ain't that great. They seem to be scraping the barrel. ER is one of those Stones albums I never put on. I'll listen to the singles on compilations, but that's about it.

This is my own Voodoo Lounge and i don't listen the original anymore!!!

1. Love is Strong
2. Sparks will fly
3. The Storm
4. You Got Me Rocking (with '5 strings riffin' as intro!)
5. The Worst
6. I Go Wild
7. You Got it made
8. So Young
9. New Faces
10. Jump on top of me

ER is the most underrated album of 'em all IMHO. Better than everything else except for Beggars and Exile, ESPECIALLY when one consider the production. To make a SD outta TY ain't logical as so much stuff is recorded much earlier. How would you pick the bonus trax?!?!?

Better than Sticky Fingers, Let it bleed, Goats Head soup, Tatoo you, Voodoo Lounge, Aftermath, Some Girls, Between the Buttons, IORR,Steel Wheels, Undercover, Satanic, Black n Blue? IMO, NO Way. It is a dud . One of their 3 worst albums. Other than She So Cold and Let Me Go' the songs are garbage. Even Mick and Keith don't like it. Although Heaven which came from these sessions IMO is pretty great.

I also think Emotional Rescue is quite a great album! Some Girls, Emotional Rescue and Tattoo You are my favorite Stones records. What a trilogy. This was the aera when I discovered the stones being around 12 years old.

Second are
- Let It Bleed
- Sticky Fingers
- Goats Head Soup
- Only Rock'n'Roll
- Black & Blue

Don't like Beggars (never hear it) and Exile (rarely played) that much.

It's funny you say that, Exile is my favorite and Beggars is high up there. But I do not like ORR. Never listen to it, I just do not like it!

But i agree with you on all the others!

I think a lot depends on musical tastes and musical sensibilities, the Stones buy at least three generations, I would avoid talking about junk. For example for me VL is a fantastic album, maybe a little too long, but I don't find weak songs and when it came out I literally consumed it.
Even ER is an album that I usually listen to, especially in the summer, there are some of them emblazoned albuns that I listen to much less.
Somewhere I had a version of "@#$%& Blues" from the period 78-79 with a fantastic harmonica, I love that version which in my opinion is superior to the original. Here she is..

Well one man's coffee is another man's cuppa tea, for me ER represents all that makes The Stones great. Beautiful songs, nasty lyrics, great rythms etc etc etc. No other band in the world could come up with such a cool and swingin' collection of songs. It's a PERFECT record.

Heaven, Hang Fire, Little T+A, Neighbours and No Use In Crying came from these sessions.

All of them are great, just like ER is. Fantastic playing, excellent sound and a varied album, music-wise.

Ehhh, for me, songwise it's not anywhere near as good as BB, LIB, SF, EOMS, GHS, SG and TY.

It floats well with IORR, BAB and U. It has some really good songs, some good songs, and a couple that are, eh. And to think they left off/didn't finish Little T&A, Neighbours, Heaven, I Think I'm Going Mad, Tallahassee Lassie, No Use In Crying, If I Was A Dancer yet alone a few others that apparently didn't get finished...

Production wise, or perhaps more so mix and sound wise, it's one of the best.

I've always enjoyed the sound/mix of most of their albums. I don't think EOMS is as muddy as some think it is. Same with GHS and IORR. SG is a high end nightmare and makes it difficult to enjoy the album.

DIRTY WORK and STEEL WHEELS have a sterility to them that makes VOODOO sound like the early 1970s albums, which made it very refreshing overall at the time.

I'm saving my money for the super-duper-incredo-special edition issue of the as yet untitled and unreleased LP that may or may not be released sometime or not in the near or far future.

Really? I happen to think they are the bollox, ten outta ten each one of them, with maybe the exception of WTBG, that's a 8 outta 10. I'd rather listen to Indian Girl than JJ Flash on a monday morning or indeed afternoon, but come friday night at 11 pm it's probably the other way around. Still those mariachi horns and Mick's singing (just the phrasing of AAaaannnggoollla wins it for me) are brilliant.

Send It To Me I can listen all day long tosmileys with beer

Everyone has their own tastes, for me they are clearly superior to stuff like Short and Curlies or Can You Hear the Music? or Soul Survivor.
On the contrary, I find Send It To Me a fantastic, brilliant song.

Aside from Summer Romance which is a damn fine rockin' tune imo (and maybe Where the Boys Go which isn't all that bad), I tend to agree with the rest of Taylor1's picks of stinker tunes.
Emotional Rescue, Send it to Me, Indian Girl...yeesh, they fit right in with Streets of Love as the worst of the worst.

Or proper crap like Say You Will, which to some people if been on Exile would have been lauded. Stones make Stones records, Stones records swing and has swagger. That's why we love 'em. Most bands only make music for the brain OR the crotch. Stones make records for BOTHsmileys with beer

Send it to me. Swaggers?Indian Girl swaggers? It’s pretentious annoying crap.If you didn’t know crap like this and Emotional RescueandWhere the Boys Go had been written by the Stones you’d think it was crap too.And Say You Will is a great ballad.

But not all Stones lyrics are like that! Starting from Angie and many songs, also famous, very appreciated!
Among other things, the text in the music of the Stones has never been very important.

I guess it's a thing of the age. Having been a fan more or less since their very beginning, following them through thick 'n thin, ER was in fact their first MAJOR letdown for me (repeated only a few years later with DW). And not only for me, I sensed that from a lot of contemporaries. It was the point when lots of rock fans in general, not necessarily Stones die-hards, did not take them serious anymore (for some of them that point came a bit earlier, though). The material on ER is just too lightweight, and not even the perfect production could hide that. A song like Send It To Me is just a perfect example of a great & promising intro that's followed by absolutely nothing. For an album following the almost flawless SG, ER simply has too many weak spots imo so that the general impression could not be saved by the few winners on the album. Considering the material they actually left off the album makes their song selection even less understandable and only adds to my disappointment with ER.
