BEcause of their age I would rather think NO !

I tend to agree with you, they will however continue as long as Mick is able to perform, in light of his heart condition it would be best for Mick to slow down now and take it easy, for the guitarists it's completely different, they can play for as long as they live, as long as they can stand up, another 10 years is possible, but it's a completely different workout for the singer and drummer and I'm sure Mick and Charlie are about to call time on live tours.

Mick's heart condition was fixed. He's fine. Charlie... he's gotta be getting exhausted now. It would seem at some point very soon someone will have osteoporosis and won't be able to continue. If Charlie gets it it's over. Keith... he's already so damaged, what's a little more? It's very very unlikely they'll really do a 60 And Counting kind of thing. More like 60 And Done.

IF they get to play live again - at this point it seems very likely that there will be music in 2021 in Europe. I really don't see the Stones coming back to the US. But one never knows - with the NFL etc getting going things may be figured out. Who knows.

Would they consider "drive in" shows?

Seems safe to me.

I've always felt they could/should do a chill-acoustic concert series....and, well, drive-in would probably work for that.

thoughts?

Why would doing a drive-in show be considered a "whimper?"

I mean, is the thinking: "another big-stadium rocker w/ 70-80%+ of the same songs of the past ___ years" somehow more "cool?" Would a Drive-In Series that showcased their acoustic skills and gave the people what they want - live music (at a time when live music is in great need) - going to hurt their "brand" somehow?

a cool acoustic drive-in tour would be amazing icing on the most amazing cake ever-baked.....IMO.

I guess Mick kinda needs/wants/loves the crowd, so there is that....it wouldn't be the same experience...for the band, for the fans.

however, you won't catch me complaining and "change" is not a bad thing.

I'd prefer a drive-in concert to "oh let's wait it out and...."

well...that "and"....let's just say a lot can happen between July 2020 and Knebworth 2022...not all of it is good.

that being said, I highly doubt a Drive In Tour....I was just throwin' it out there....I honestly doubt another tour at all. Ever.

sigh

But, if BV says it's possible....it's possible.

I won't start believing the Stones are done until he says so!

Besides...I wanna sign up for that Meet n' Greet that Rocky is promo-ing!!

ps...there's a drive-in theater 15 minutes from my house...just sayin'

Fair enough.

I guess we can agree to disagree.

However, just to be clear - I did mean that the Stones actually PLAY at Drive-In Theaters (or large fields or someplace people can park & watch the live show)...ie. an actual Drive In TOUR....

not just "play a show, tape it, show the video at drive-ins"...

even if they played ONE show and broadcast it live at Drive-Ins...people would go.

IMO - a full Drive-In Tour would add immensely to their brand...would show their versatility, show their grit and determination, show their desire to give the people music at a time when they need it most.

....a "taped" show won't hurt them any more than "Havana Moon" did...

...a "live broadcast" would be cool too....everybody loved the COVID-19 fundraiser thing on TV....

...All are better than "No Stones"

Question: have the Stones ever done a Full Acoustic-Only Show?

if not, doing so in any context would only improve their brand....

unless they sucked, of course...haha!

A drive-in tour; the audience would be safe allright, but it makes concerned about the band and them sidemusicians being so close, I would insist on Jagger, Watts and all others sitting in separate cars on stage too

Four weeks before the drive-in show Keith will drive from his home to the rehearsals place, Mick, Charlie, Ronnie and the rest will do the same, all in cars, and they will stay in their cars rehearsing, because after all, they are not in the same cohort. I will probably have to bring a car too, because I love to hang around for the rehearsals. There will be a lot of cables around, in and out of the cars, but we will manage. Or may be they go acoustic.

I'd bet almost anything that IF the Stones did a Live Drive-In Tour...everybody on here bashing/mocking the idea would go

...and would be stoked about it....we'd all be happy...

all that would be left to do would be to complain about the prices for the Drive-In Pit...and prices in general....and Chuck and Set Lists and Lucky Dips....the usual suspects.smiling smiley

Honestly, I don't think the Stones will ever tour again...however, if anybody could pull off a Drive-In Tour, it would be the Stones....

One of the saddest parts of this lockdown is how much precious time we are losing for the boys to be playing. We all know the clock is ticking.

At this point, if they did an in-person drive-in show I would buy a ticket, but I'm not sure I would if it was being streamed from somewhere else.

I would also be delighted with an all-acoustic show. Mick doesn't need to run around a huge stage to keep me engaged and I would really enjoy deep cuts and unplugged arrangements of the hits. I doubt it will ever happen though.

Sadly this. Spectator Sport too. Large crowd events of any kind will be the last thing to come back, and even when they do, it will be under strict conditions for a while. Charlie is 80 next June. For older classic acts such as the Stones, the Who, Macca and Rod Stewart, their days of performing live were limited anyway and we cannot rule out the possibility that some of all have played their final live show. Of course we all hope not.

Remember Summer 2007, which I don’t think it’s too controversial to say was their weakest modern era tour. We all thought that was it then after those 3 final shows at the London O2. And for 5 years there were no shows and minimal band activity. But 2012 arrived, we got a mini tour of 5 gigs and mini tours of 15+ shows every year for the next 7 years. A massive and welcome bonus few of us expected. It’s been good for them because it’s kept them active and involved in old age and good for us as their fans.

They may surprise us, again. Let’s hope they do. It won’t happen until they feel safe because it’s not like they need the money.

Why?

you're the 2nd person to use this term and I simply don't know what is meant by it....

if the fans are happy and musicians want to play the gigs...that's all that matters....Live Music for the People....BEAUTIFUL!

....besides, it's still better than "no tours, no live music"....I mean, if every other music form but 8-Tracks disappeared....you'd buy 8-tracks, wouldn't you?

I don't get the negativity...it's a difficult time and musicians are trying to find ways to bring music to fans who want to hear it....

whatever...nobody is forcing anybody to go, so I see no problem with it...I think it is a beautiful thing.

...and "no"...I don't think the Stones will ever tour Europe (or anywhere else) ever again....sux.
