A true American hero. This is a big loss. Why do we keep losing the good apples while the bad apples continue to rot society? Its just not right.

They called him the conscience of the "Congress." I am saddened to hear as he was one of the good ones. He advocated for what he called getting into "good trouble."

More bad news in a year filled with it.

Nice of Paul to send respects..

Sad to hear the news that civil rights legend John Lewis died yesterday. He was such a great leader who fought with honesty and bravery for civil rights in America. Long may his memory remain in our hearts. How about renaming the famous Pettus Bridge...

A lot of coverage here in U.K. of the passing of John Lewis.

From what I know and what I have seen about this truly really good guy, it's all very well deserved.

Civil rights is something you should be born with in life and right up to when you live your life until the end................and that is for everyone.

RIP John Lewis.

In this time of reassessing our past and tearing down monuments to monsters in the process, I think we should start memorializing true heroes and their struggles by naming structures and public places after them and dedicating public art to them. Mr Lewis would be one of my choices, along with Barack Obama. God bless you both.

There's a difference between politics & human rights/dignity. Representative Lewis personified dignity in the fight for human rights.

John Lewis transcends mere politics. I heard many news personalities calling Jon " a saint". That remains to be seen but he was an extraordinary man, a man of peace, humility and wisdom. His suffering will long be remembered along with the strides that he made for civil rights in this racist-infested country. He cannot be replaced, and as someone said it is truly sad that the ROTTEN ONES live (" rotten apples," I believe he said) while "the Good Apples die." I do believe he has inspired enough patriots to carry forward his fight and his message, his vision of what America SHOULD be. I think he left us with enough hope to carry on with the work that still needs to be done towards racial equality. Rest In Peace, John Lewis.
