I agree with

Forrest Gump - so many hits
The Vietnam War - Ken Burns' series soundtrack has many great 60's tunes
Easy Rider
The Harder They Come - a great introduction to reggae, etc.

I also like

The Apostle
Road House - for Seger's version of "Blue Monday"
Falling From Grace
American Graffiti - so many 50's hits
Grease? WFT? Guilty pleasure as are Saturday Night Fever and Urban Cowboy. And I don't really care for Travolta!

The deluxe The Big Chill has the organ/funeral version of YCAGWYW, Many hits on there, especially Motown

Back with more later

I found a copy of GREASE the other day and listened to it in my truck for a few days. Really well done but holy crap is it awful. Of course there are the 6 big songs, Grease, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted, You're The One That I Want, Sandy and Greased Lightnin', and I had never listened to the lyrics of Greased Lightnin' - that was very funny.

My all-time favourite is the Jaws soundtrack by John Williams (I'm a Jaws freak).Possibly the most iconic and recognisable opening music to any movie.

Soundtrack to From Dusk til Dawn includes ZZ Top and SRV amongst others.

Also love Apocalypse Now, the version with narration and movie dialogue running through it.

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

Coming Home (made the soundtrack myself - Opens with "Out of Time")

Easy Rider

The Harder They Come

Repo Man (I'm looking for the joke with a microscope)

The Breakfast Club deserves a mention.

Superfly

Purple Rain

Some folks put Streets of Fire, it introduced me to The Blasters, and I love the live scenes.

Schumann, piano quintet opus 44 - from Fanny and Alexander, Ingmar Bergman. Just beautiful. Here is a clip with it - skip to the last minute of the clip.
As a bonus you will get the essence of Bergman imagery in one minute. Recommended!

Hell, he defined movie music! CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, STAR WARS... so many movies. He did the main title music of Star Wars in the same key of 20th Century Fox's fanfare so it flowed better...

I swear - EVERY time I've ever heard those drums doing that 20th Century Fox it's just like hearing a skip in a song for years - I expect to hear the blaring horns of the Star Wars main title!

On a side note, Godzilla's (original) roar is a pine tar resin gooed gloved hand sliding on bass strings, slowed down probably.

Hello,

How about 'American Graffiti'? Packed with fine numbers...plus it comes from one of those perfect movies!

Cheers,

Simon.

That's my all-time favorite movie too. Every year (except this one) my local theater plays it Memorial Day weekend. Sometimes there are first timers and it's amazing hearing the screams when Ben Gardner's face pops out. So funny.

As for soundtracks, Goodfellas obviously and Until the End of the World.

I will always love Grease too.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.
