Great composer, even as far up to The Hateful Eight.

A real musical genius.

I started listening to music with some of his original soundtracks in the 70s ("My name is nobody" for instance). Still listen to them almost 50 years later.

I like also a lot his CD with Yoyo Ma and the concert arena one.

RIP maestro. You brought some very cool sounds to our world. Here's the theme from the Good, the Bad, the Ugly, as a sample, in a very cool symphonic version.

The Go Team sampled some of those songs in My Name Is Nobody on their first record Thunder, Lighting, Strike (really just 1 guy - he said he did not want to talk about the samples since he did not get permission...sorta like License To Ill).

Ennio was something else. Danny Elfman once said he had heard (and doubted the validity) that for those Leone films, Morricone made the music first and Leone shot the scenes to fit the music. Improbable, but it is a good story.

If the Stones were playing BA today, what song would they cover for Ennio though?

I know what song Metallica would play as a tribute, though. Ecstasy of Gold.

I don't think the Stones could do Ennio.

I have always been a big fan of Ennio Morricone. He is a true genus, and he has been writing so much great and beautiful music. Rest in peace, Ennio Morricone!

The theme song "Gabriel's Oboe" for Roland Joffé's film "The Mission" (1986). The song is composed by Ennio Morricone.

A poet a visionary wrote pages of extraordinary music. He leaves an unbridgeable void.

My favourite Ennio Morricone soundtrack: Navajo Joe [youtu.be]

I was playing this song in a club years ago and everybody was asking: "Who is that"

"Once upon a time in the west" - the soundtrack was one of my first records.
At school on the last day before holidays we asked our music teacher to play this tune - and he played it loud!

The greatest of them all.

If there's a more beautiful piece of music in any movie, I've yet to hear it. Puts a lump in my throat every time

I love Morricone, his scores have something special and magical.
I'm a Spaghetti western fan and I have a lot of those kind of movies and scores, with ofcourse a lot of Morricone scores:

Besides the well known Leone movie scores, these are worthwhile to check out:

Il Mercenario
Faccia a Faccia
Vamos a Matar, Companeros
La resa dei Conti
Violent City
Revolver
Le clan des Siciliens

For the brilliance of the Good the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack alone he's in the top echelon, The music is so integral to that film's greatness.
