OT - Pandemic, and TV shows you missed the first time around

Not sure about you folks, but the extra time sitting around the house, and the extra choices on cable these days, have allowed the wife and I to discover some shows we've never seen before.

We are now big fans of The Sopranos, on HBO. Currently about to finish the 3rd season.

Love Stevie Ray's character! Great acting, great music.

Any Sopranos fans out there? Or, any other shows that you are seeing for the first time that the rest of the world has already seen?

Cheers.....

I’ve just worked my way through Breaking Bad for the second time. I don’t believe a better drama series has been written; for me, anyway.

I will get round to watching the Sopranos.

The Sopranos is an excellent series.
Breaking Bad is even better.
Remember to watch Better Call Saul once you’re finished with BB.

Yes! I need to watch Better Call Saul. Have you watched El Camino?

I don’t watch much television especially in summertime but when the days become shorter and cold I might consider buying the box set of NYPD blue in my opinion the best tv show of all time.

I did watch El Camino once. I should watch that again!
For those not familiar, El Camino is a single episode show to be watched AFTER the Breaking Bad series.

I’m yet to watch El Camino, but may do so this evening.

My wife and I began the pandemic with Ken Burns' Country Music documentary series.

We just watched the Michael Jordan ESPN doc The Last Dance.

Both were great.

I'd recommend the series Workaholics if you're looking for laughs. (The "Fat Cuz" and "Stan Halen" episodes are exceptional)

Mr. Show is brilliant with a cast that eventually get bigger, but never better.

i loved the sopranos; best tv show ever. had a teenage daughter at the time; she could have been meadow!

i wanted to watch the series with my husband. he despises shows with gangsters, but loves italian food, so we made a deal. every sunday night, i'd cook an italian dish which we'd enjoy while watching the episode. it was great!

HA!

Watched 25 minutes of El Camino and it was - it has to be THE WORST thing I've ever seen in my life. Holy crap is it bad.

I never could get into Breaking Bad back when it came out. My girlfriend started watching it... and this time I've gotten into it.

So far during COVID we've watched:

House Of Cards
Bosch
Ozark (season 2)
Breaking Bad
The Durrells

It seems like I'm forgetting something. Goliath is really good. Hoping for season 3 of Jack Ryan. I tried to get her to watch The Wire but... I doubt she'll like The Sopranos, of which I've seen some of.

Deadwood lasted about 10 minutes for her.

Years ago, I tried the Sopranos, but there was just too much useless and sadistic violence in it for my liking.

Sometimes you'll have to accept things for what they are. I mean Sopranos is a very good mafia/mob series. Exciting and entertaining. That's it. It's not reality. It's not "The Seventh Seal" by Bergman.
It's very good in it's genre. And that's good enough for me. The same with "Homeland" by the way.

I don't know about catching up with series after a decade or so though. I think the freshness and actuality is lost by then. It's like listening to "Tattoo You" for the first time in 1991...

Killing Eve
Ozark
City Homicide (from Australia)
and all seasons of Doc Martin for the second time.

I watched it the night before last. Pretty disappointing.

At the beginning of the Shelter in Place I watched all of the Canadian comedy Letterkenny. Seriously, it is the best show I've watched a long time. Check it oot.

Last season of Ozark started off a little shaky IMO, but ended strong. Superb acting.

It's subjective. I loved watching House Of Cards with my wife. When she got too sick nothing was watched. So I forget what season or seasons I missed.

Not quite 3 years later my girlfriend wanted to watch it so S1E1 and it was just as awesome as I remembered it.

I watched all of Deadwood. Thought season 2 was a bit off. After a while I started watching it again. It's amazing what I missed the first time.

Someone asked my girlfriend if we'd watched it. So we found it and watched it and after 25 minutes we were floored that someone thought it was good enough to release.

That was... a month ago?

Turns out they didn't finish the title. The context was lost. They never said the A BREAKING BAD MOVIE part. We watched the wrong EL CAMINO.

As for "Pandemic and TV shows", we had The Wire.

My favorite TV shows (to be continued)

. The Wire
. The Americans
. Treme
. Battlestar Galactica (2004 TV series)
. Peaky Blinders
. Hell on Wheels
. Deadwood
. Poldark 2015 (the first seasons, after it gets sugar-coat)
. Outlander (Yes, I confess)
. Sons of Anarchy (the first seasons, after it's too much blood and irrealistic)

Trouble is that regular tv-stations are left with leftovers and re-runs. You must subscribe to Netflix or/and HBO in order to get the good ones.
Which adds up to money if you, like I, also subscribe to sport channels.

Narcos and Narcos Mexico, on Netflix. Both Are outstanding. Quite a bit of subtitles (as much of the dialog is in Spanish) but well worth the effort - SO good
