Nice sum of money for this portfolio..

OAKLAND, CALIF. – A complete “Mick Jagger” portfolio of ten screenprints by Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) sold for $817,000 on a $450,000 high estimate, an auction record for the portfolio, at Clars Auction Gallery’s June 14 sale. The prints were each signed by Warhol and editioned 80/250. They were done on Arches Aquarelle paper.

The portfolio came from a private collection in San Francisco and was accompanied by an original 1976 purchase receipt from Castelli Graphics/Multiples Inc, New York. The complete portfolio has only come up for auction three times in the last 15 years.

“Clars is proud to have achieved a record breaking price on a rare suite of ten Warhol screen prints of Mick Jagger,” said Cristina Campion, associate director of Twentieth Century Design at Clars. “We were excited to have numerous international bidders vying for the lot. I think it’s really indicative that the art market is still going strong, and that Andy Warhol’s works, particularly of noted celebrities, are in high demand.”

"I think it’s really indicative that the art market is still going strong".

Lol! Powell has dropped like 10 000 billion on Wall Street since March to keep the Dow from reaching its true valuation (5000?).
Then it's only normal some of money printed from thin air trickles down to the real economy (art, real estate, big cars).

Always loved these Warhol prints.
I would have thought the entire set would go for more money.
But, around $80,000 per print isnt chump change either.

This set was no. 80/250 so ..... 250 sets would as such total an amount of more than $ 200 Million . Not bad, I would say.

Someone is going to make some money on that one.

I also would have thought that they would have gone for more.

I always liked them, especially when they were first released, back when.

Yes, 250 sets, but how many of those sets do you think are still complete?
I would luv just to have one of the prints.

Same.
Have a Marilyn print inherited from my brother which I love, but after seeing that and a few of the Mick originals at a Vegas gallery,
I was blown away at how much more stunning the originals were.

I wouldn't know. Looked at the Internet and saw that 6 years ago a set of 10 Jaggers was sold for $ 461000. If that would be the same set resently sold, it was a great investment 6 years ago.
Individual ones have (here and there) been sold for "quite acceptable prices", still tens of thousands of dollars. Money makes the world go round, right Taylor1?

Speaking of investments, back in 1984 I was visiting NYC quite a lot and on one particular trip, I found a gallery in Greenwich Village that had several of these original prints, signed & numbered. I have photos to show them...I stood by several. They were priced at $2500 each at that time & to this day, I KICK MYSELF for not buying a few....at that price! I'd be set for five lifetimes! I was young and newly married and just didn't have the extra $7500 kicking around....SHAMEFUL! Sure do wish I could go back to that week! I did buy a few copies, much smaller, years ago that I had professionally framed and they still look great. Small consolation.
