Sorry...but slow talking or whatever is effing woeful!
1973/74..or whatever time it was recorded...so much better..it's actually sad.
Jagger has @#$%& this up..his vocal on the original is so much better..why try and add to it?????
Idiot.

this release is fantastic. very nice mick put the work in to match this 'bootleg' release in quality to something dylan would do with a 'bootleg' release. disc2 is a great new stones record. 'shame, shame, shame' is a perfect compliment to 'blue and lonesome'. really wish the last five years they had continued to work that Covers vain. spend a few weeks working three hours a day and capture a few 'chestnuts' on tape. all the new guitar and vocals blend well with the decades old tapes. just shows they have lost nothing when it comes to execution. wembly is a treat, too. really makes me wish they would clean-up and release the superdome show from the '78 tour.

On first listen, seems like Mick made more of an effort with lyrics this time.

Jagger is excellent on these 'new' songs. Also unlike with some previously released outtakes I have a feeling the new vocals really belong here. I guess correctly produced/recorded vocals and proper mixing did the thing.

Fiji Jim thru to It’s a Lie, wonderful five-Some! Would have made a really great side to a REAL Stones album.

The vocals are fine to me. I really couldn’t understand them on the finished outtakes.

What doesn’t make sense is Wood playing over top of Richards’ perfectly fine solo and guitar parts.

I had the chance meanwhile to hear Wembley on a good sound system. The old Sam Wheat-disease: Mick upfront in a grotesque way. The guitars in the background. It is the same messed-up sound like on Miami. A great performance and a lousy sound. Is Bob Clearmountain too expansive for a deluxe-project? So they pay for an absolutely deaf man.

NOTHING sounds good on the Wembley show. They took the VHS recording and just jacked up the mid section to accentuate the guitars but they still sound like the whole thing is under water! Very disappointing. Phoneix '81 would have been a MUCH better choice.

I listened to the bonus cd 3 times today and I am disappointed. The songs of the Stones became songs of Jagger. Mick doesn't like the past unless he can change the lyrics, add stuff here and there, erase the parts of Mick Taylor. No lyrics for the songs. The photos are still taken from the same sessions as for Some Girls. Minimum service "comme à la SNCF"

I did, and I agree with you. I love the original, but this new version sounds like karaoke or those awful tv singing shows, just painful to listen. And it's not only Jagger singing, my impression is that nothing remained from the original outtake.

It's called "finishing unfinished business" for official release. It's an artistic decision. That's exactly what they, or evil Jagger, did for the original Tattoo You-album already. Or for lots of stuff on previous albums that used unfinished stuff from previous recording sessions, and that includes a good portion of Exile.

The finished versions disappoint you compared to the original outtakes? There's always the bootlegs to listen to. And the new Stones album next year will have Jagger all over. It will consist of finished versions of stuff that was unfinished in the past, albeit not circulating amongst fans, so comparisons will not be that easy. But one thing's for sure right now - if it sucks, it will be Jagger's fault. And his only. Right?

I must say after a proper listening on high gear that the album remaster is much better sounding than the 2009 one.
Have you listened to Start me up (regular version) ? now you can hear something new (?) on the rhythmic which was maybe lost in the previous mix (although it has no new mix).

Really enjoying the bonus disc. I'm so used to hearing tracks like Its a Lie and Fast Talking on bootleg that it is jarring to hear them with new vocals. It's a Lie was always an absolute favourite, delighted it was chosen to be part of this set. Will take time to get used to it with the added overruns and new vocals.

Overall, a quality collection.

The remaster does not meet audiophile standards but I think it's an interesting one. It kinda sounds like a recent album, the 80s sounds like the gated reverbs are more burried and therefore it sounds more upfront and punchy. Bills bass is very present and makes the tracks even more "dancy".

Some of the doctored up bonus tracks are bizarre sounding - adding new embellishments to certain tracks that are over 40 years old results in a bit of a freak show.

Looking forward to the original vinyl on picture disc.

Precisely, hollow...
Whilst Jagger might sing the song ok....the actual song gets lost...

Listening to the bonus LP now. Sounds great, you can hear what is new vocals and what is not. New vocals have a different sound, slightly distorted. Wembley Lps next

Well, I have finished listening to this version.I would rate the songs as follows

DISC 1

Start me up: 8.5
Hang Fire: 9
Slave: 7.5
Little T & A: 8.5
Black Limousine: 7.5
Neighbours: 8
Worried about you: 7.5
Tops: 8
Heaven: 7
No use in crying: 7.5
Waiting on a friend: 9
Average: 8

DISC 2

Living in the heart of love: 8
Fiji Jim: 8.5
Troubles are coming: 7
Shame, Shame, Shame: 8
Drift Away: 8
It´s a Lie: 7
Como to the bell: 7.5
Fast Talking, Slow Walking: 8.5
Start Me up reggae version: 8
Average: 7.83

This is just my opinion and feel free to disagree with me. I liked the yeah yeah yeah chorus on reggae start me up.

I would rank the second disk of re-releases (rarities & found) from best to worst as follows:

1. Some Girls
2. Goats Head Soup
3. Tattoo you
4. Exile on Main St.
5.Sticky Fingers (not that the second cd is bad, but new songs are missing)

As I sadi, this is just my opinion and feel free to disagree with me.

The unreleased songs are amazing. Never thought I'd say that but they really are. Possibly the best outtakes they've released to date. It's like having the album between It's Only Rock'n'Roll and Black And Blue.
