Yeah, but that's no shame with Stu hehehe... he still sounds great even if he was front in the mix. We can't say that about Chucky: He doesn't sound well when too high in the mix.

But we have to consider that we live in the keyboard times, too bad. Maybe Chuck would sound different and better on a real piano (listen to Tumbling Dice from 1995 B-side Like A Rolling Stone: he startouts on a real piano, then it goes on live in the club).

Listen to Atlantic City 1989: It's all fake piano, keyboard that is. It doesn't sound great. Listen to Midnight Rambler... the Chuck part doesn't work for me...
A new era with all electronics. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
The Stones just need a boogie woogie piano player and let them bring a piano on stage!
Can't they just hire Bill Wyman and his Rhythm Kings? They got that old swing hehe. NO, just kidding guys!!

I just don't like the way chuck plays, but I think he's a nice guy, just for his hot daughter!

I was just commenting on high / low in the mix..... not who I preferred.... the piano on Brown Sugar fx. is excellent

Chuck is technically a good player, he knows all the chords of the Stones songbook... but he ain't a great boogie woogie/rock'n'roll player. It's too much chords and "pling pling" sound (could be keyboardsound... a real piano is so much more beautiful)

Didn't they have a grand piano during the mid 70'ies tour?

I think they need to revamp all the back up players and singers including Daryl. They all play weak except for Bobby Keyes but I consider him more of a Stone then Ron Wood. Call up Billy Preston--is he out of jail? Is Nicky Hopkins alive?

I believe Nicky Hopkins passed away in 1994.

I hate chuck. But only because he can play in a way i can't and thats a good reason to be resentful, but in a playful way

I don't hate Chuck (especially now that they turned him down in the live mix and turned the guitars up), I just like Stu, Nicky Hopkins and Ian McLagan better. With the first two gone, I'd sure like to see McLagan join the Stones on tour again.

Chuck's playing just sounds too busy. Ian Stewart was a great pianist who swung incredibly well with the band. He knew when NOT to play. The art of leaving gaps and not tinkering away on the keys during the entire song. You dont have to constantly bang the piano to get the desired affect. I love a good piano, but Chuck Levell is no Ian Stewart.

The sound of the electric piano is not good. Listen to Nicky on Loving Cup, and try to imagine that coming from Chuck's keyboard - ain't gonna happen.
