Stones Overindulgence (on the bad side)
Posted by: MileHigh ()

This might be a fun topic and a few come to mind for me. I don't think there is too much overindulgence with the Stones. For example, they didn't run around smashing hotel rooms. Things like the Beggars Banquet pie fight don't count, that was a good overindulgence.

Naming the song "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)". Perhaps with enough -lines- you can 'get it'.

Naming an album "Goats Head Soup." It's right out of the movie Spinal Tap.

The cherry picker. Say no more.

Mick thinking that he was actually singing in '75-'76.

Trying to arrange for a concert on Easter Island.

Renting elephants for one of the 1975 concerts.

Poor Brian and the way he looked at the Rock'n'Roll Circus. He looked totally fried and borderline dysfunctional.

Keith burning down a whole house.

- Dumping the TV in CS Blues.
- The drug use and Bobby on the plane in the same movie.
- The elephant was in London 1976, no?
- Keith's Shepherd's pie-rules
- Mick's diamond tooth

Not sure about the elephant, you could be right.

Yes on the diamond embedded in Mick's tooth. Once I read that sometimes people used to tell him that they thought that he had some food stuck in his teeth.

Yes! "GRRR" is even worse than "Goats Head Soup".

A bunch of people in gorilla masks drumming? Yes again!

I always wanted one of my front teeth replace with an ebony tooth with an emerald embedded in it. Talk about looking like you got cilantro between your teeth.

I think the overindulgence comes from too many people on stage (minus the Hells Angels). The five/four of them are all that should be on stage, plus a bass player and maybe a horn section. And of course a real piano player, not that dude they got now, someone who can swing.

They overindulge, but they have rarely been pompous.
And they have worked hard, respected their audience and largely taken care of their families and inner circle, while also quietly doing things for people outside the public eye.
And they always pull back from the brink -- getting Robert Frank to make a movie about them was perhaps indulgent, but then they came to their senses and blocked the release.
Or coming back from the excessed of the 1975 tour three years later as a leaner, back to basics band.

Well there was Keith's atrocious treatment of some pretty classic cars, starting with Blue Lena I believe he called his Bentley. And I always felt sorry for his Jaguar E Type at Nellecote.

Didn't know that guy. Extensively screened Internet and listened to several songs.
Real country indeed and yes, he really enjoyed showing off his success grinning smiley

Webb Pierce ... early stuff is good

I heard, that before the diamond tooth, Mick tried with a ruby when people kept telling him his gums were bleeding, replaced the ruby by an emerald in order to hear his salad was stuck between his teeth, and finally got the diamond.

Bottles and bars songs trend to score well smileys with beer
I was surprised to note his "Teenage Boogie" looks a lot like T-Rex "I like to Boogie", to say the least. Like Led Zeppelin "borrowing" old songs prentending they made them themselves angry smiley

It also reminds me of the video clip the Stones made for Angie in 1973. Overindulgence toward glitter rock? Anyway, they gave me a laugh then.

What are those rules? I know he needed HP sauce to go with it plus no one could touch it until he had eaten some. Why not bake more than one?

2 sheppard's pies are made. One for the band, one for Keith. No one is to "bust the crust" on Keith's except him.

"No Anchovies, Please"

One thing are the absolutely ridiculous ticket prices.

Another thing is they're selling their songs to promote stuff like Microsoft Windows 95 (Start me up), Mercedes Benz (Sympathy for the Devil) or Call of Duty (Gimme shelter). Anyway a song like "Gimme shelter" shouldn't be sold for a war game...

Well, they can sell their stuff to anybody they want. But it's not rock'n'roll and I don't like it. If such songs ever had a meaning - then I don't want to discuss that meaning anymore.

Thanks! A great solution. Everybody is happy!
