He, Chuck, Jerry Lee, and Elvis pretty much defined "50's rock and roll".

Lemmy used to say Little Richard was the greatest rock n roll singer who ever lived and that there was no one else in the conversation.

This is huge. One of the truly great pioneers of the the entire industry he helped to create. Monster influence on Stones, Beatles and all that followed him. God bless, Richard. RIP and thank you SO much.

We will never see another Little Richard, plenty of imitations yes. He really changed the game.

His appearance in Chuck's "Hail Hail Rock and Roll" showed what a courageous fighter he really was.

I'm glad he lived a long life and am thankful for all he gave us. RIP Little Richard...you will be missed

RIP Little Richard.

I have been a fan of Little Richard since 1970
when a mystery person left a dozen obscure
vinyl records on my doorstep.

At least obscure for a 19 year old.

One of the records was
"EVERY HOUR WITH LITTLE RICHARD".

This record was recorded in Atlanta, Georgia in
1951 and 1952, and according to the back of
record cover, it claims that this is the very
first Rock and Roll recording of any kind, ever.

Little Richard inducting Otis Redding into the Hall of Fame was an incredible stunt (Mick and Keith somewhere).
So outrageous, so talentuous

One of my big listens for awhile. My son, while in those spouting years, didn't groove to a lot of music we played around the house, but Little Richards Greatest Hits would start to play and he'd go wild, dancing around the floor, jumping off and on the couch and just moving to LR's hits. Beyond the hits, I searched out other recordings by Little Richard. There's some great stuff out there from various albums, most of which you can find on YouTube. He even did a cover of the Stones "Brown Sugar". He did a children's album for Disney, if I remember right, which also got a lot of play while the youngin's were still growing. You brought much joy to many folks ears and hearts, Mister Penniman. RIP, sir.

You got that right.

Never saw Elvis, but seen the rest a couple times each, sad to see so many of my childhood (actually my mom had all this and I 'borrowed' it) favorites leaving this life.

Oh gosh - yet more sad news. Little Richard will forever remain an absolute legend.

I saw him but once 15 years ago. He was already verging on the frail but put on a magnificent and memorable performance. He was signing things afterwards so I had the chance to meet him fleetingly. He left a good impression on me as someone who was gentlemanly, humble and good-natured, which, to be honest, I hadn't been expecting. RIP, Little Richard, and thanks for the music.

Mick has paid a heartfelt tribute to him on Twitter.

Now only Jerry Lee left of the originators of modern pop music. Richard's shadow loomed large over just about everyone of importance - The Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Dylan, Prince, Jimi Hendrix and helped influence rap and hip hop. R.I.P (It Up) Richard Penniman.

I am so deeply saddened by this news. What an incredible talent. A true genius. I only discovered him later in my life, and I regret that his music was almost never played on my local radio stations.

A towering giant in the history of rock and roll, whose influence cannot be overstated.

RIP Richard.
