It´s good to see the Stones are together and alive but I rather play the whole Crosseyed Heart album than this one song.

It's probably going to hit #1 in the digital downloads charts. Dylans latest single did too.

Chords? Am, Dm, Am, E7. Take it from there and have fun. :-)

keith' announcement in uggs and pyjama is way better than the song. a jaggery tune, overproduced. it's ok, not more.

(please, before you read...don't shoot me! LOL )

Great news indeed. The Stones are working again!

BUT....

I really don't like this song at all. Why?

- Lyrics aren't that good.
- Jagger's voice is still good, but he sings un-naturally.
- Dull beat and overrated.
- Backing vocals are annoying and simple.
- I think Ronnie and Mick are the only ones who plays guitars on this track. And Keith just small short simple lick here and there.
- The whole song is going nowhere.

So, there you have it. Glad that the Stones are doing well, but I rather skip their new stuff. Sorry.

My money goes for the GOATS HEAD SOUP REISSUE later this year.

It's been on Spotify and Deezer for nearly an hour too ;-)

More than "Sweet Neo Con" it's closer to the great unreleased "Ivy League", the instrumental version heard on "Voodoo Brew".

It's not on YouTube so I put it here if anyone needs it [voca.ro]

I like this best! Is this Ivy League?

I disagree...except for "Keith just small short simple lick here and there". It seems a 'Jagger/Clifford' song that i really like but where's Keef?!!!

Good guitar sound.
Great auto-tune Mick, bravo.
Jagger/Clifford song.

No Chuck Leavell ? Quite a surprise.

Crisis ? What crisis : $$$$$ again. Great opportunist job.

What many people don’t seem to understand is that today a new single release is just the most commercial FORM of the new music, there will appear in time different versions, as extended, maybe featuring a guitar solo that is not heard here, a dub version with a long reggae intermezzo etc. These would certainly change people’s opinion on this new track, that is now being subjected to some pointless critics.

Guitar track 1 (Keith): Right channel: The one that starts the song, and plays throughout. Rhythm and licks.
Guitar track 2 (Keith): Far right channel: Adds reggae/dub-ish licks in just the right places - several times.
Guitar track 3 (Keith): Center/left channel: Marks chord changes (E/D, I believe) where Mick is just strumming one chord. Plays a few licks, too.
Guitar track 4 (Mick): Center/Left Channel (slightly left of Keith's): The muddy-sounding guitar that strums chords throughout the song.
Guitar track 5 (Ronnie): The clean Strat-sound, mostly playing bluesy licks.

And that's that.

Yes that's the first version of "Ivy League" that appeared on "Voodoo Brew" and ChrisM said belonged to a James Bond movie in one his great reviews on the UC List, should bring back memories to a few here ;-)

Caught up with the thread and :
- MelBelli : nice video, maybe you could show the actual chords and play the whole song ? As for the Fm6 in the bridge, sounds like it could be Keith's contribution to me. I haven't gone back to the video but you can see Keith looking for some pretty intricate chords [youtu.be]
- Rocks by Rod Steward ? WTF ?! Yes that's the Primal Scream Jimmy Miller produced song !
- Chuck Leavell nowhere to be seen ? Not really surprising since he was already not part of the 2015 sessions and got his panties in a twist publicly when he found out about "Blue and Lonesome" in early 2016 and badgered them to record some parts. Same happened for B2B and he was reportedly "upset". He's obviously very useful on stage but Mick relies on Clifford in the studio.

Anyway, when was the last time the Stones were "relevant" with all the news channels talking about them and having info on the release in the ticker ? It doesn't hurt that it's a very listenable song too. A GREAT TIME to be a Stones fan, LOVE THESE GUYS !

Yeah I noticed that too. What a contrast with the way the "One World" gig was touted just a few days ago. Some media outlets barely mentioned the Stones...

Hi Powerage78,
i’m a critical fan but you are clearly superior!!
This is a really good song, really nice to listen to. Technically perfect but eclectic as only the Stones can be.
If you’re looking for the same sound in every album and every new song, you know which band you should listen to. But that’s not the case with the Stones!

Nice song, IMO.

I love it's mixed "mood"... I think it's basically a reggae tune, but there are also soul and funk elements...

No only IMO. It is a very good songs with classic Stones sound, fresh lyrics, solid guitars, nice tempo changes and drumming and inspiring singing by Mick.

We are lucky fans!
