A propos chart positions. Here is something I didn't know. There is a guy in Sweden, Karl Martin Sandberg, who has written 23 Billboard number-one songs since the mid 90's.
That makes him the songwriter with the third-most number-one hits on the chart. Behind only Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
Maybe the Stones should give him a call? If it's chart success they're after?

smells like abba

You're wrong, but whatever - if it's chart success they're after why not get in touch with songwriters/producers who knows how to make that happen? They haven't been all that lucky with that lately..

Why do you think they approached another successful swede, Carl Falk? smiling smiley

Didn't know that, Dandy. (Or perhaps I do, it must have slipped my mind though...)

iTunes has put up an updated version of HONK with "Living In A Ghost Town" as the first track.

Indeed: [Music.Apple.com] . It's also available e.g. on [www.HighResAudio.com] or [www.Qobuz.com] or [www.ProStudioMasters.com] or [Store.AcousticSounds.com] .

Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, nsync, Katy Perry, The Weeknd and many others including REDNEX of course.
That guy is a phenomenon. He’s having number one hits for over 20 years now.

good point...it's like the step son of Miss You....this single is unmistakingly Stones...they could not have done better...the 3 critics non with standing ...it sounds better and better with each listen...if they ever perform again, this will be a highlight.....the intro and the outro are both equally very good, the melody is catchy...and lets face it the lyrics are excellent...."party of one" line is great....

The Rolling Stones Clock Up Seven Consecutive Decades Of Billboard Chart Hits
‘Living In A Ghost Town’ makes its chart entrance exactly 56 years after ‘Not Fade Away’ gave the band their first Billboard success in 1964.

The success of The Rolling Stones’ new single, ‘Living In A Ghost Town’ means the legendary rockers have now debuted a title on a Billboard chart for seven consecutive decades.

Entering multiple lists on the week of 2 May, ‘Living In A Ghost Town’ makes its chart entrance exactly 56 years after The Rolling Stones’ first appearance on a Billboard survey: ‘Not Fade Away,’ the Stones’ first title on any tally, debuted at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated 2 May 1964. Since then, The Stones have amassed the most top 10 albums (37) in the history of the Billboard 200 chart, including nine No. 1s. Also, on the Hot 100 songs chart, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have notched 23 top 10s, including eight Number 1s.

All these "alternative" rankings are fine and dandy but is there no longer an actual "Singles" chart ? A HOT200 or something ? Numbers not in yet ?

Those specific 'alternative' charts consist mainly of songs that aren't a hit, but simply are the best selling ones in their genre. For instance, the hard rock chart has, say, 20 songs on it, of which perhaps numbers 1 and 2 actually sell enough to compete with all other singles that are available that week.

"Its production had to be finished in isolation, but the entirely apposite Living In A Ghost Town becomes the first chart single for The Rolling Stones in almost seven and a half years, bridging a chart gap stretching back to the No.61 peak of Doom And Gloom in November 2012. The new recording sits at No.63 with 7,998 chart sales to give the veteran group a span of brand-new hits which stretches back almost 57 years since Come On in July 1963, which peaked at No.21."

The single is the #5 best selling song in the UK but it didn't make the Top 100 on streaming.

#5 in singles sales, not on the official singles chart.

Just to show how low are singles sales, the #5 best selling single ended up at #63 on the main chart when streaming was included.

You are very close to the truth there.

Being a lepricorn of Celtic extraction he has close connections with these nature spirits ( known as 'sitheachan', - though not with anglicised diction).

He serenades them with his balance and in return they provide him with the dust with which to give more whizz and sparkle needed for most of Jagger's rather worldly creations.
