It's a fine effort and very topical, enhanced by a few recent changes to the lyrics winking smiley
Great to see them making new music in the 58th year of their existence.

Listened a few times earlier when it was first released and liked it, now back home listened full blast w/headphones watching official video...love it!

Keith looks bored singing backup in the video w/hands in pocket though...sort of detached from it all....maybe this is one of the tunes he didn't like much which contributed to delays...
if so, oh well...too bad Keith - it's a damn nice tune!smiling smiley

What are you going on about, Mick said he wrote it with Keith, it's got Keith's sound, it's got Mick's sound, it's the sound of the Stones and its great, Keith asked Mick to put it out, they both like it and want it out there ffs

Just pondering and speculating based on the various things I perceive...
Keith looks withdrawn and lacking enthusiasm in the video (imo),
Many people are saying it sounds like Mick solo, though I wouldn't go that far as it's way better than that (ie this is Stonesy)- again imo.
Anyhow, no big deal...settle down...a new Stones tune is here...enjoy it, I know I am.thumbs up

Yeah sorry Hairball, it's no big deal, think i got caught up in the moment.
It's this thing that continues, you know, that's a Keith song, that's a Mick solo song, it gets to a point that we can no longer enjoy a Stones song for what it is.
Admittedly this is more a Mick track, but having said that it's got a lot of evidence of Keiths sound to it, maybe Mick is guilty of being copycat , let's face it, Mick's been close enough to Keith to have learned a few things musically over the last 58 years lol.

I'd be surprised if this was the actual footage of the recording of "Ghost Town" in LA last year, it could just be footage from these sessions (or others) synced to the music. Keith's guitar playing at 1:50 is clearly unrelated. Mick singing the lyrics off his pad in his French chateau is likely more legit ;-)

100% agree, nice shot but not synchronized. Could be a ballad yes Keith is very laid back

Never thought of that (or paid that close attention to video), and it very well could be the case.
Maybe that's one of the reasons Keith appears disconnected to me, That and his hands in his pockets....

Didn’t Keith use hands in pocket during some Exile era shots with Mick also? Such a relevant song that should go well live(hopefully)

Not sure how to technically describe it but I @#$%& love how the main riff has that little down part...is that Daryle or keith? It's like dun-na, na-na, na
That combined with the harmonizing bit is quite a hook

Instant Stones Classic......very impressive all around.

This song will be a number 1 hit. Probably making the Stones the artist with the most time between their first number one hit and their latest number 1.

I am so happy for them and for us as well. I know this has lifted my spirits.

Good song. Reminiscent of the Specials' Ghost Town. Did they mean to? Sorry if someone already noticed it.

Yes, I expressed exactly the same sentiments earlier. At least it's not just me, then!

Sorry to repeat you. It was already 14 pages in and I just heard the song.

Is this real?

Tomorrow will tell

But my contact is trustworthy. Is not a huge Stones head but knows I am and messaged me with the news that the track is coming tomorrow, he has heard it and has to sign something.
I won’t reveal him but he works in the industry and is based in North America.
I have been friends with him for years and worked with him in radio around 20 years ago

I don't know if I was on iorr.org yesterday or the day before but it seems like I missed something for not being on, which I've seen from other people - and here is a new Stones song.

I found out from a friend in a group text and I thought, how the @#$%& would my friend know and not me? Well I've been busy.

Not that it matters. It doesn't. It's just funny.

I've listened to it a couple of times. It's good. They certainly picked a good time to release it.

On my third listen to the full song.
Liking it more each time... this song is going to get a lot of play.

"Preachers were all preaching
Charities beseeching
Politicians dealing
Thieves were happy stealing
Widows were all weeping
There’s no beds left for us to sleep in
Always had the feeling
It would all come tumbling down"

-
"Speaking in more depth about Living In a Ghost Town to Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Jagger said he originally wrote the song in 10 minutes, but made minor rewrites in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

He also sympathised with those suffering: “It’s 20 million people lost their jobs completely for something that’s nothing to do with them at all. And also the less money you have, the more worries you have. So for lots of people, it’s really tough. I mean, I have friends and they live in really small apartments in a big city and they don’t have anywhere to go and they’ve lost their job. I’m very, very lucky and I’m very aware how lucky I am, but not everyone’s as lucky as me.”

This A bridge you quote sounds a lot musically like the bridge in Little T&A. Also One More Shot. I suspect KR definitely had a hand in the music. I would also surprise that much of Matt Clifford’s work was done recently, rather than it being a Jagger/Clifford demo spruced up by the Stones.

This tune bears a remarkable resemblance in parts to the song Rocks by Rod Stewart. Lyrics are quite similar. Wonder if Sir Mick has been listening to Rod the Mod...

There ain't nothing bad with inspiration from older Stones songs. Of course they are working with known tools and that is what fans usually like about them. The new song is very good and although primary idea is probably Mick's the others have contributed too, can be heard. Solid guitar licks, great drumming, nice tempo changes.

A pleasant surprise in lockdown times that has Stones' trademark sound. And that is great!

A bit Rain fall downish..........but faster...(Well, the harmonica anyway...

Also, this line sounded familiar.....

Preachers were all preaching

The bitch keeps bitching.........

I don't think the lyrics will win any literary prizes but overall I like it .....fresh

Well done, Stones. Like the groove, and the video is sharp. A silver lining of these effed up times is that artists are being motivated to create something new. Would love to see more of this both from the glimmers and their contemporaries.

It does seem odd that Chuck Leavell wasn’t involved as he is the band’s musical director. Guess he was off doing something else and Matt covered the keyboard parts.

Cool that we heard of it here first. Much respect to Deathgod.

Keep it up, boys!
