I was driving home tonight back from work, switched the radio on and the song started... with full
volume blasting I returned to ghost town...I've been really thrilled.

I'm going to bed now. This was a great day. When I woke up I knew nothing. Then I saw the thread here saying "new single tomorrow". It turned out to be true. Not tomorrow but even today. Now we have it already, video and all. Gonna watch it one more time. Every day the Stones release a new single is a great day!

Agreed. Just the boost we need right now.

Wow...such a surprise! I like the tune and it definitely goes along
with the current surreal vibe in our cites and towns. Thank you Rolling Stones!

Listened a few times earlier when it was first released and liked it, now back home listened full blast w/headphones watching official video...love it!

Keith looks bored singing backup in the video w/hands in pocket though...sort of detached from it all....maybe this is one of the tunes he didn't like much which contributed to delays...
if so, oh well...too bad Keith - it's a damn nice tune!smiling smiley

What are you going on about, Mick said he wrote it with Keith, it's got Keith's sound, it's got Mick's sound, it's the sound of the Stones and its great, Keith asked Mick to put it out, they both like it and want it out there ffs

Just pondering and speculating based on the various things I perceive...
Keith looks withdrawn and lacking enthusiasm in the video (imo),
Many people are saying it sounds like Mick solo, though I wouldn't go that far as it's way better than that (ie this is Stonesy)- again imo.
Anyhow, no big deal...settle down...a new Stones tune is here...enjoy it, I know I am.thumbs up
I believe it is only the perspective of the photograph, if it had been taken from another angle, Ronnie would seem distant from the others.
I don't think Keith isn't thrilled with the song, otherwise he wouldn't have approved. From the interview it seems that the idea of publishing it now came to Keith.

A re work of Hold On You? from Voodoo Lounge outtakes
[youtu.be]

Yes I pointed that out before but that song is called "Ivy League" (as per the vocal version on Voodoo Stew) and not "Hold On You", that error is due to a song separation problem on the original "Voodoo Brew". Mick's "Hide Away" and "Lucky Day" are pretty close cousins too, as well as the old 78/79 outtake "Gangster's Moll".

Thanks
I didn’t realize there was a tracking error on the original box set bootleg
I’ll check it out
So it’s actually a re work of Ivy League

Really delightful to wake this morning and find out about a new Stones song! At the first listen, I thought it was okay. Later, when I watched the video, I liked it more. And after only those two listens, it is actually in my head. I am very pleased the boys put out a new song!

It's not a "photograph" - it was a screen shot from the video that I captured while watching the video!
And it has nothing to do with distance from the mic - just his overall presence lacks energy as if he really would have been somewhere else.
Mick is way into it, while Ronnie is actively clowning around...meanwhile Keith is just there similar to the pre-recorded performance the other night.
But again , that's just my opinion and it's not a big deal! Enjoy the tune for crying out loud!!! It's a goddamn Ghost Town!!!

Playing live and touring arenas and stadiums is one major difference as Mick mentioned, and the Stones clearly have the advantage at that as they continue to tour to this day...
However, Mick failed to mention the Beatles' superior songwriting, the studio work, the experimentation, and the overall influence the they had which is where they'll always reign supreme.

Regarding more new music or a new album, he says..."we've been recording, and we've got some really good stuff...but, I mean...don't hold your breath".
Seems we've heard that before, but oh well.. at least we have one new tune, and one is better than none!

I'd be surprised if this was the actual footage of the recording of "Ghost Town" in LA last year, it could just be footage from these sessions (or others) synced to the music. Keith's guitar playing at 1:50 is clearly unrelated. Mick singing the lyrics off his pad in his French chateau is likely more legit ;-)

100% agree, nice shot but not synchronized. Could be a ballad yes Keith is very laid back

Never thought of that (or paid that close attention to video), and it very well could be the case.
Maybe that's one of the reasons Keith appears disconnected to me, That and his hands in his pockets....

Someone posted the lyrics under the video, not bad and certainly better than almost everything on ABB, apart from "LIND" maybe but that was more personal. This is stuff everyone can relate to. It's been a long time since Mick managed to "connect" to anything "normal" human beings experience.

"I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town
I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town

You can look for me
But I can't be found
You can search for me
I had to go underground
Life was so beautiful
Then we all got locked down
Feel a like ghost
Living in a ghost town

Once this place was humming
And the air was full of drumming
The sound of cymbals crashing
Glasses were all smashing
Trumpets were all screaming
Saxophones were blaring
Nobody was caring if it's day or night

I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town
I'm going nowhere
Shut up all alone

So much time to lose
Just staring at my phone

Every night I am dreaming
That you'll come and creep in my bed
Please let this be over
Not stuck in a world without end

Preachers were all preaching
Charities beseeching
Politicians dealing
Thieves were happy stealing
Widows were all weeping
There's no beds for us to sleep in
Always had the feeling
It will all come tumbling down

I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town
You can look for me
But I can't be found

We're all living in a ghost town
Living in a ghost town
We were so beautiful
I was your man about town
Living in this ghost town
Ain't having any fun
If I want a party
It's a party of one"

Thanks Deathgod, I’d have never learned about this if it wasn’t for this thread.

Over here the song got a (very positive) feature of its own on the 10pm TV news.

Rolling Stones Release Song That May Become Anthem Of Self-Isolation
The new Stones song, “Living in a Ghost Town,” features lyrics like “I’m going nowhere/Shut up all alone/So much time to lose/Just staring at my phone

"NEW YORK (AP) — The Rolling Stones have unveiled a new song the band thinks is perfect for these coronavirus times.

The legendary band released the four-minute slow-burning bluesy and harmonica-driven “Living in a Ghost Town” on Thursday.

“I’m a ghost/ Living in a ghost town/ You can look for me/ But I can’t be found,” sings frontman Mick Jagger, who wrote it with guitarist Keith Richards.

The band explained that the song was one they were working on before the global lockdown and they decided to revisit it in isolation, thinking it “would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now.”

The lyrics do certainly sound timely: “I’m going nowhere/Shut up all alone/So much time to lose/Just staring at my phone.”

The Stones’ recently joined forces remotely to perform “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” for the “One World: Together At Home,” concert.

Other musicians who have recorded coronavirus-related songs include Twenty One Pilots, who released a new standalone single, “Level of Concern.”

Thank you to Deathgod.

Also, noting that Mick and Keith's PR indicates the 6 or 7 tracks worked on last year that Soldatti mentioned is 100% correct.
