Why is it odd, if they intend for it to be a surprise?
I don't know for sure, but I'm not aware that anyone knew Bob Dylan was going to release new songs. And young artists release new albums with no prior notification often.
Plus, there is definitely chatter here!

It is common in the media. Press releases with stories embargoed until 00:01 on a certain day for example.
Then it can be published.
That it's blocked until a certain date/time. With a Non-Disclosure-Agreement you could be obliged not to talk about it or to release it, etc until the specified time/date.
I mentioned it too but hopefully not, it was a lot weaker (sounds like "Do You Get Enough") unlike that massively groovy track where Mick was laying some tasty harmonica!
"Living in a Ghost Town" would work rather well with some of these drone videos of deserted towns...
Anyway, that's 42' to go!

I remember complaining to the Stones' twitter that the BBC guy talked during the airplay of Doom & Gloom and they just responded by giving me the youtube link
like Hate To See You Go maybe. Can't say if all that was specifically filmed or just Chicago stock footage

No offense to the OP, but it seems the only source is this thread. Noise 11 is just quoting this thread. I would think that with this many people looking into it this close to release, that something more would pop up, even with the embargo. I’m not holding my breath, but damn I hope it’s true. We need this!

Media embargoes are commonplace. But Deathgod is right to say it’s kind of unusual that we’re not hearing “I’ve got the track, it’s great, but I can’t play it for you until Whenever,” like in the old days of radio.
The reason for that is either 1) it’s a false alarm or 2) the Stones and Universal really want to keep it a secret for as long as humanly possible in this “no secrets” era.

Perhaps there's no chatter because they wanted it to be a complete surprise. Dropped out of the blue. We're only hearing about it because this is a deep Stones fan site where people get insider info you wouldn't hear anywhere else.

We'll see. To me, kind of the whole point of an artist suddenly dropping an album or single is just to hit the audience with it, for it to truly be an unexpected surprise.
A radio DJ announcing "We've got the single and we'll play it tomorrow" seems to defeat the purpose, but I could be wrong.
