Does anyone of the great soul music connoisseurs of this site know who plays for Doris Duke on the majestic opening track from her soul masterpiece I’m a looser?

In particular I would love to know who plays bass on it

video: [youtu.be]

Big thank you to who can help!

Good song. Don't know how much this helps re who played bass, but here's some info re the recording if this is where it was recorded. It wouldn't surprise me if someone(s) associated with the ABB played on her album.

I'm not sure but it may be Jerry Jemmott on bass. The song was recorded in 1969 at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia and he played on sessions there in the late 60's.

Robert Popwell .........

In liner notes it mentions Popwell
as bass player on The Feeling Is Right
from the album so most likely he plays bass
on the tracks from the I'm A Loser album .... .....

THANK YOU!!

Those bass lines sounded so familiar!

I discovered Popwell thanks to Ronnie Wood. Fell in love with his playing on Gimme Some Neck

Popwell was also the bassist for the Crousaders, one of the opening groups at the Stones’ 1975 us tour. Ronnie must have loved them! And the Meters, of course

Somehow, there seems to alway be a Stones connection in every piece of good music!
