Pretty sure the Eddie Vedder song was recorded about 3 blocks down the hill from where I sit in my recliner. He did a fine job. Neil Young most likely had some influence on getting the organ. It was different & sounded good.

It's being posted online that Charlie used a virtual drum kit app called Freedrum.

That doesn't look like Freedrum.
Charlie's playback-drumming to a pre-recorded drumtrack...

But still... he's cool !

It could very well have beem both the app and pre-recorded drum tracks. You can see what looks like a phone to the right of Charlie's knee which he is glancing at once in awhile especially during the beginning. I would not be surprised if some of those fills were his and they flushed out the rest of the track with the complete pre-recorded drum.

I think Charlie used some app where your hand movements are the drums.
Right side = cymbal.
center = snare ect.

Electronic drum sticks.

[youtu.be]

... don't think so - Charlie's sticks were just normal drumstiks, no cables attached.

Rather, I think, it was a video-computer solution: as the sticks move to some position in the picture-frame, a corresponding sound is called by the software.

Just my 2cts.w :-)

Mick was in very good voice and it was lovely to see them all. It was a decent song choice for the circumstances.

This must give every Rolling Stones fan the goosebumps! My heart just jumped into my mouth (who said that ...). Tonight on either BBC or BRT on the big screen once more.
Remember, this month April, when three guys talked about music and actually played together (!) with "the help of a few other guys" in EJC in good old London the embryo of the mighty Rolling Stones was shaped.

Is it just me, or did Keith seem to be away with the fairies throughout the entire thing ? Also, I couldn't detect much actual "playing". I wasn't able to identify a single sound that came off that acoustic he was tinkering with !? It was completely carried by Mick, Ronnie, n' Charlie ...

How can it be daylight in Charlie and Keith video? Keith is living in US and Charlie in England?

Micks video are probably done late when it is dark and Ronnies room seems like it
doesnt have any windows...

They quality of the video is high also compared to the other artist which played. Very funny to see Charlie on virtual drumming smiling smiley

Keith appeared to be gently caressing the guitar, with little-to-no audible effect. Was he just miming along?

I assume they did a base track with Mick, then it was passed on to the other members, playing back on it. Then some minor sound was added. I assume a certain tree farmer in Macon, Georgia did some work on it too. Like Mick said, without Chuck Leavell, no Stones.

This was not a performance to be evaluated technically. It was a performance telling the world The Rolling Stones support WHO and the health workers who work night and day during these crazy days. Also in tribute to those who clean, and everyone else who have hard times these days.

I like the basic style of the performance. Mick and Keith on acoustic guitars. Stripped down. Charlie stripped down. Ronnie carry the solo, like he does always. Keith adding backing vocals. Charlie smiles. They are all alive and kicking. That is all we need to know. I can't see why they should have rehearsed for weeks to do a "postcard" song to the world.

The did a great tribute performance.

pretty lame, I'd say. Charlie faking drumming is pretty cool, Keith is a complete failure/missing in action, Mick trying his best and Ronnie trying to kept the song together. The rest's just a basic backing track, most likely recorded a while back

Surprisingly, I liked most of the broadcast even artists I didn't know. Of course the Stones were a highlight & it was nice to hear a more stripped down YCAGWYW. Gets to the heart of the song. The other highlights for me were:
Lady Gaga
Stevie Wonder
Kacey Musgraves (she's definitely impressive)
Maluma
Eddie Vedder
Lizzo (lady has some pipes)
Keith Urban (nice performance of a great song)
Burna Boy
Billie Joe Armstrong (such a great song, excellent performance)
Billie Eilish & Finneas (talented kids, glad big brother gets some credit)

Final note: in these divisive times in the US, it was nice to see Michelle Obama & Laura Bush work together for a message. Both were definitely classy first ladies. Hope its a sign for a future where we can all work together.

I thought it was great.

I was thinking about how this could lead to years of more touring for the Stones. Mick and Ronnie live on stage, Charlie happily playing at home on one video screen and Keith just being Keith on another video screen.

I'm only half joking...

You didn't hear his guitar or his backing vocals?

Standard tuning on YCAGWYW for the first time since 1968. He was just doing licks, while Mick did the rhythm.

Nice performance although Keith simulated the whole song...
Most of you are hoping for shows sometime in the future, in the worst possible case this could have been their last ever performance...
I don't hope so, but I think real gigs with audience won't happen for a long time.

Poor choice of songs by Elton John and McCartney. Why play songs that require a full band to sound right. Tons of songs they could have played that would have been better. Charlie's expression was priceless.

I think it was all about the lyrics.

I thought Elton sounded refreshed after two years of overtouring.

As for Paul, I'm glad I saw him several times in the 90s and 00s and not recently.
