I've always thought this performance was far sloppier than Hampton which is surprising as they were playing together for so long by this time. Are there any individual songs that beat Hampton show?

A few, imo.

Let Me Go, Under My Thumb, When The Whip Comes Down spring to mind.

I think Leeds 1982 was a lot different than Hampton. A different keyboard player, a different sax player and the Stones were playing at a much faster speed.

Are there any songs better a Leeds than Hampton you ask? My suggestion would be to watch both of them, Hampton first and keep score of how you rate each song.

I agree with Dandy regarding Let Me Go, and I would also say Neighbours (summat about the brass), it's better in Leeds. As for the rest of the songs Hampton is far superior IMHO

I think the main reason for many 1981 concerts being better than 1982 concerts, performancewise, is that they did a lot of indoor shows in 1981, while 1982 was their first tour where most shows were played at outdoor stadiums or fields and often while it was still daylight. And it's more difficult to get into it, both for the audience and especially the band, outdoors - and while in the sun. Same way with having a party, I reckon.

...and in addition, they swapped Ian MacLagan for Chuck Leavell, Ernie Watts for Gene Barge - not for the better
plus; the Tattoo You material might have felt less "hot" for the band by 1982

There were still some great 1982 shows, though, but maybe not quite as intense as the better 1981 ones.

Thx, I do like Whip better here. The sax in 81 is so much better though....also they dropped Let it Bleed which is so @#$%& good on Hampton

Bobby was on more tunes in 1982. That made some of the classics better, too, imo.

Liked the sax duo arrangement on Hang Fire in 1982.

Imo it's not really fair to compare anything to Hampton I, since the Dec. 18 is among the top 5 gigs they ever did.

Let Me Go in Leeds is absolutely brilliant and blows the Hampton version out of the water.

I like both tours just as equal.

The advantage: Gene Barge instead of Earnie Watts. Earnie has an edgy annoying style, Gene is melodious and more gentle. The disadvantage: Chuck Leavell, his first appearance, here not so prominent in the mix, so he is tolerable. But no one could have a premonition of his destructive influence on the band in the next 40 years.

I prefer the Leeds performance to the Hampton gig, raw and rude, the last show of the real and genuine Rolling Stones.

I was at this and they were all over the place until LSTT, Keef was right in front of me drinking Jack daniels like soda pop, in the vids you can see it on the base near Charlie's kit. Remember Mick swigging the JD and then having a drag on Ronnies cig....great gig and last of the tour I think

I think the bluray was massively disappointing.. not the music but the video.. the cameraman doesn't know how to zoom out!

They know how to zoom out but the videos were made for the screen above the stage and therefore they used mainly Close ups. The screens were net as large as today then.
