[twitter.com]

The official Stones twitter account shared this photo about a week ago and says it’s from the Marquee show. I know they planned on playing Wild Horses according to Glyn Johns, and this shows both guitarists on acoustics. What else do you think was planned for an acoustic set?

Could be "You Gotta Move". It would have been something if they'd considered doing "Dead Flowers" as an acoustic number.

When will people and organizations begin to understand
that there are large groups of the population that
refuse to click on anything with the word Twitter or
Facebook in it.

I read they did Prodigal Son that tour, but I haven’t heard it.

I agree, Dead Flowers as an acoustic number would have been cool and predicted all the singer/songwriters that cover it now!

seems to me that Keith plays a 12-string-guitar,
so for which song could he play 12-string ...

wild horses seems to me possible

I used to be active in global network security for 12 years and know about the unreliability of Twitter and Facebook (but also Google, etc.).
A good way to deal with it is to immediately wipe out all Internet info that appears in your device after you had "a quick look". Just know that it's impossible to be 100% safe when you are on the Internet. Simply make it a routine to wipe out the hidden information as much as possible.
The photo was very interesting though. I didn't see it before winking smiley
It took my memory back to March 9 1971 when I saw the Stones in Bristol. When I close me eyes, I'm back there in time

It would have been a 10-string, though smiling smiley

They play Wild Horses. Keef in open g. Unfortunatly they just rehearsed it, so it's not on the TV show

Now I'm not so sure about WH. It's a 12-string, not a 10-string.

Yes that is definitely a 12 string. But Keith could have played it in standard. Maybe that's what they're discussing. "Mick, it's just not the same..." winking smiley
Taylor's guitar sort of looks like a Nashville stringing.

As far as I know he has never played WH in standard, though.

Looks like Keith has tuning problems, and I remember reading something about that. Tuning problems and Keith eventually passing out, LOL.

They did rehearse Wild Horses a couple of times, and then Keith crashed so they never filmed it. The rehearsals, just like Dead Flowers from the Sticky Fingers Deluxe reissue will likely exist though.

You're most likely right about that; you usually are. In '75, when electric he was in Open G? I can't recall.
What is remarkable are the mics on Keith and Taylor. They are a good ways off of the guitar. Also - assuming this was WH, they were going to pick up Keith's BU vocals through that mic.

Re: Marquee ‘71 Photo

I guess they turned the mics away for rehearsing parts, before they were ready to do the song with the band or "for real".

Yeah, it looks like only Richards is out of place. They're probably discussing the structure or something.

Richards could still be in Open G*, just with the 6th strings still on there.

Taylor looks like he's in the second position, in standard that would make sense for Wild Horses.

Mic placement: it looks like Richards has moved over to discuss the song, hence Jagger's awkward retracted positioning haha.

* In Life, he says Open E

Of course, but there is no proof of that after Hyde Park, so it's not so likely, imo. And it's even trickier with a double/two extra e-string(s)

<In Life, he says Open E>

Latter-day Keith as a reference of what he did back then is useless. He's also stated that he used Nashville tuning on JJF smiling smiley

True, and maybe this was the root (no pun intended) of his "tuning issues". We know he showed up late, so his guitars were probably already there.

A Setlist website has Prodigal Son played in Newcastle and at the Roundhouse in '71. My guess, if they were going to play another acoustic number, it would have been that. I'm not sure how they would have handled that with a 12-string though.

Re: Marquee ‘71 Photo

Wait, I just noticed that Taylor has a SM57 also pointed at his guitar. Maybe the..are those Neumanns? were set up to pick up a bit of ambience. I am surprised that Taylor would have two mics, and Keith only one, LOL

Re. a Nashville strung guitar on JJF, I think that is plausible.

Keith has a magnetic soundhole pickup in his guitar to pick up his sound. The mic is probably there to add some natural and ambient sound, some room ...
