Your Favourite Rolling Stones Studio Guitar Solo
Posted by: dead.flowers ()

A friend of mine, who's not really digging the Stones, had been looking for outstanding guitar solos, and sent me his find of the David Gilmour solo on Comfortably Numb 2016 live at Pompei, with Chuck Leavell, btw. OK.

Now, I wish to send him some cool solo by the Stones in reply.

Personally, I've always had a strong liking for Ronnie's solo on Blinded by Rainbows. I mean, that one's really touching me deep in my heart everytime I hear it.

What is your favourite Stones Studio Guitar Solo?

Cheers and Stay Safe

Nice pull. Possibly Keith’s only recorded use of a whammy bar?

Probably Jiving Sister Fanny or the alternate take of CYHMK. From Keith it would be one of the earliest, the one in Stoned

She Was Hot!
Keith's last everlasting effort on the fretboard?
It's basically a rehash of Chuck Berry's licks in the key of G (iirc) but what an achievement!
I could listen to it all day.

Can't really beat "Sympathy for the Devil" Unique in the canon.

Hilarious! He even surpassed that one (great, as it is) on Fight smiling smiley

Sway and Hot Stuff are good ones. Harvey Mandel did a great job but it always bothered me though, that the Hot Stuff solo is mixed too loweye rolling smiley Also like Ronnies solo on Rock And A Hard Place.

"Down the Road Apiece" - in those early days Keith would just charge into a Berry type solo with such fury. All of them are brilliant.
"She Said Yeah" - short and hot.
"Dance Little Sister" - love that solo
"All Down the Line"
"Hot Stuff" - the strangled sound alone
"Hand of Fate" - iconic Stones moment by non Stone
"Negrita" - Is there any reverb or delay at all on the lead guitar?? Love that dry, distortion.
"Through the Lonely Nights" - it is such a typical Taylor moment and feel. Almost predictable.
"Hold on to your Hat"
"Anybody seen my baby" - Waddy wachtel's contributions are too short but so good.

IORR is the most Tayloresk studio album, there we find the best solo efforts: Time Waits For No One, Dance Little Sister (Mick T), but also: Ain't too Proud to Beg (Keith). And I remember: Keith on Hold On To Your Hat, I suppose, on Steel Wheels. At least it is the fastest and most fluid effort by Keith (if it is really Keith).

Keith's Short And Curlies deserves a mention. Many still think it's Taylor playing smiling smiley

There are quite a few but here are some that really stick out for me at the moment:

Sway
Dead Flowers
Heartbreaker
Through The Lonely Nights
Time Waits For No One
Hey Negrita
Worried About You
Slave
Beast Of Burden
Let Me Go
She Was Hot
Tie Me Up

After that... not much. Ronnie's slide in Out Of Tears is outstanding.

Gimme Shelter, Monkey Man, Sister Morphine, Winter,One Hit - It must be hell is weaker, but catchy. Same goes for Fight - a thrilling collaboration of Richards and Wood. From the early days I like King Bee. Stop breaking down, All down the line and Ventilator Blues are exciting. Love in vain from Stripped features great playing by Ronnie Wood.
