OT: RIP Playboy magazine

The magazine that many of us grew up with, that inspired and provoked and tantalized us for decades, was on life support after Hugh Hefner died in 2017, and has now been killed by the coronavirus.

Aw, guys, calm down! It’s just the print edition closing. It will still be on line, but now you won’t have to worry about the pages sticking together. I expect it may look something like this...

I have a CD-ROM with every issue from the 50s. Fascinating time capsule. Good literature and cartoons. The suggestions for hi-fi equipment is cool. Another era.
It's a victim of its own success. The sexual revolution Hugh Hefner started got much more hardcore. He's buried a couple miles away. In a wall. Next to Marilyn Monroe.

Q: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

A: "A photographer for Playboy!"--said every boy (or at least 9 out of 10...) when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's.

The whole art of hiding Playboy magazines in your bedroom will be sorely missed.

When I was a kid I read an amazing article called "Staggerwing and Me." Just an amazing amazing article about this man who had a biplane and would go flying on the weekends and how the experience of being in the air nurtured his soul. I never forgot it, although I can't really remember any details. But I can still remember echos of the amazing feeling that article infused within me.

And I looked it up, sure enough, September 1972. I have to read it again and one day I am going to get an online subscription.

I have the complete set from the year 1964,the year I was born.
I got lots of other editions scattered around, some from other parts of the globe. When I get time I want to gather them all together. That and all the stuff I have horded over the years.Thinking shelved, thinking labelled storage boxes!
I remember the Stones at Wembley many moons ago,and Keef actually spoke a bit before songs.Something like “glad to get back to my old home, been sorting through shit”.I know he was back at West Wittering that time and took it as sorting stuff there.
But Playboy is part of our cultural history over the years. Some great interviews etc.And I loved the image of single man and his pleasures.Hedonism in words.A lifestyle choice!
My favourite Playmate probably Pamela in that latter day shoot.Anybody got any favourite’s?
Time to petition them, bring back that magazine?

Not surprised, instead of killing off the nudie pix they should have gone a bit more hardcore, and gone after GQ's market share.

Poor Hugh, way to keep his legacy alive...

Yes. My father kept his pile hidden beneath a night stand in my parent's bedroom. Any time they were both gone I'd sneak in there to read them. I always had to be very careful to return them to the exact way they'd been left. I remember their annual jazz poll, and when Paul McCartney started getting mentioned for his bass playing.
