Just end this lockdown, man; come on! Yes, the elderly and those with ‘health conditions’ ‘May’ be more ‘at risk’, but everyone else needs to go back to work and live a life. After more than several weeks, this is becoming utterly bonkers and crazy!
Talk to me after you have had a case of Covid-19. Until then you are talking nonsense.

Please please I have a prayer/wish:
Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine
I think the President wanted some positive news. People need hope. Sure these drugs might work, but they need scientific testing of course. I don't want an endless partisan discussion on who said what and why and all of that. Please let us move on. No harm. The test project will move on. May be some of these anti ebola and anti malaria etc drugs will be approved eventually, with proper doses and combinations, but it takes time. Meanwhile, please please do not kill each others with I hate CNN and I hate FOX and all of that, it will be an endless pissing contest nobody will win.
New York Governor Cuomo and the US President Trump
Please stop making jokes about them. I will not allow it. I will delete any such posts. Again, just like the above, this is not a pissing contest. You have the sun, you have the moon, and you have The Stones. Then every leader in USA want the best for their people, in different ways, and sure it is election year in USA, but this is NOT time for an "I am smarter than you" competition here on IORR.
OK?

Opening up Las Vegas prematurely would be insane imo.
What happens in Vegas wouldn't be staying in Vegas during these times.
The Mayor that wants to open up the city is neither Rep or Dem, but an Independent fwiw.
Fortunately, it's not up to her, but the Governor, not to mention the casino owners who to their credit shut them down voluntarily relatively early considering.
Las Vegas mayor: Reopen casinos, let the ones with the most infections then close
"Let them, and visitors, gather and gamble, smoke in confined spaces, touch slot machines all day — and let the chips, and apparently the infections, fall where they may.
“Assume everybody is a carrier," the mayor said Tuesday on MSNBC. "And then you start from an even slate. And tell the people what to do. And let the businesses open and competition will destroy that business if, in fact, they become evident that they have disease, they’re closed down. It’s that simple.”

The beaches in my city have just officially opened, after neighboring cities' beaches opened over the weekend. News sort of went under the radar thankfully, and since our beaches are already quite isolated and spread out compared to overcrowded L.A. beaches, things should work out. Certain rules that apply includes social distancing, no large groups, etc., but swimming/surfing, running, walking the dogs, etc. are all allowed while keeping a safe distance. First real heatwave of the season is about to hit so that might be a test of how many people will show up at the beaches, but again we're semi-isolated/spread out, and most "crowds" don't appear until June/July/August.
EDIT/PS - Mixed feelings about this as I think it might be too soon to take any risks (?), but wide open spaces on the edge of the Pacific Ocean seems to be safer than going in to a supermarket!

this is an interesting one I can't quite wrap my head around....
"beaches open...stores/businesses closed".....
isn't that kinda inviting everybody to go to the beach?
I live in a beach area on the Northern LEast Coast...but, it's still f'n cold here. Beaches never closed in the first place (except for one town)...crowds are very light. But, I still only go when it is rainy...and they are empty.
weird...my whole routine is backward now...I only run, bike & go to the beach when it rains and I pick the sunniest/nicest day to go to the supermarket.
go figure.
Good luck either way! Vitamin D is good for ya!

Sounds like an evil plot from Dr. Evil to wipe everyone off the face of the earth.
Or a lame joke by a bad Vegas comedian making light of the situation.
Is this Mayor serious?!!!
Just did a google search and she's all over the place making controversial statements...complete loony tune...
Viva Las Vegas...

Opening an uncrowded, massive, spread out, semi-isolated beach should be alot easier to wrap your head around than opening a golf course which you yourself said is "common sense".
Born and raised on the southern California coast, and wouldn't have it any other way.

It's not about "cowering" or being brave (although many certainly are). It's about getting this under control to save lives.
Not only that, but also actually shortening the overall time that we spend in shutdown mode.
The states that "open" (to those willing to actually go out), will be starting over from near scratch again in several weeks.

I wasn't saying I was opposed to it.
I just think that "nice weather + no work (or businesses open) + (free) beach = crowded beach".....and people have proven over and over they don't/won't listen to "recommendations"
Simply put, when the weather gets nice here, the weekends are always 5-10x as crowded due to "no work"....
golf courses are easily controlled b/c there is clear oversight (ie. # of people allowed on, groups of 2-4 max, scheduled and spaced-out tee times....the written rules prevent people from "playing on top of each other")....plus, far fewer people golf than go to the beach to begin with.
beaches are a free-for all....take a look at Florida. No golf course in the world ever looks like that.
and...unless people pay to go to the beach, opening them adds nothing to the economy....which was part of my point about "common sense"...open things that are low-risk and create (some) economic growth.
as stated...I'm not opposed to it, I just think it is an open invitation for crowds at the beach if there is "nothing else to do" (ie. work) and the weather is getting nicer.
that's what I can't wrap my head around....if we can open the beach w/ essentially unenforceable "recommendations" then we might as well open parts of the economy w/ enforceable ordinances and get people back to work....
That being said: SoCal is sweet. Good waves. It's late-April and we still have to wear a 6mm wetsuit + boots + gloves up here.
no crowds though.
enjoy!!
stay safe!

So Texas and Vermont will partially reopen Monday. I forsee a large jump in cases, perhaps not so much in Vermont since it has a small population. Large cities like Houston and Dallas might turn into New Orleans with the number infected.
I take screen shots on my cell phone from the Fox News website which shows current world and US cases. On Friday morning the US had 672246 cases and 33288 deaths. Today, it stood at 755533 cases and 41379 deaths. 8091 reported deaths in 2 days. At this rate, they'll hit 60000 by next weekend if they don't flatten the curve. Who knows where it'll be the weekend after that.
