I had my first vaccine a couple of weeks back. I suffered terribly: awful flu-like symptoms. I was off work for four days. Absolutely glad I was afforded the opportunity, however. Awaiting the date for the second dose. At 37, I was the youngest in the queue, seemingly.

Sorry to hear that but at least it wasn’t long-lasting. Which vaccine did you have? I was told by someone working in COVID intensive care that all those of his colleagues who had previously tested positive for COVID suffered much worse after-effects from Pfizer. I understand the same can happen after the second dose. In both cases, it means the person has antibodies that are going into overdrive - a good sign!

It was the AstraZeneca vaccine. I suspect the underlying condition I suffer from, played a role in level of side-effects I experienced. I do tend to get somewhat knocked-out whenever I get a severe cold, etc.

Glastonbury definitely off. Isle of Wight (normally in June) has been rescheduled to mid September. Reading/Leeds hoping to go ahead on August Bank Holiday. Those are the ones I know about - the pattern seems to be that early ones are either cancelled or rescheduled; late summer ones are hoping to make their usual dates.

The pharmacy sent me two automated emails and one automated phone call to remind me, but when I got there they didn’t have any vaccine because it had all gone to newly eligible people and they hadn’t held any back for people needing second doses. No way to know when I’ll get it now.

I'm sensing you're right! To be fair, I've never heard of this happening to anyone else here, but of course it would happen to me.

Don’t be too sure, Big Al! A friend here in London turned up for his vaccine appointment only to be told all appointments that day were cancelled because of storage problems. He’s since had his first dose, but there have been stories up and down the country about supply failures. Even so, you are right that it’s all mostly very well organized.

Just been informed by NHS that my twice postponed knee operation is now on for April 7th.

One thing they asked me was not to have the second covid jab till after the operation, but since the jab not due till about May 9th, that should be no problem.
Will be so glad when I finally get the knee op done.

Another reason it wouldn't happen there is they aren't scheduling many second doses to begin with.
Not knocking it, as I think it's the smarter strategy, but while 34% of the UK have received their first shot, only 1.9% have received both.

Point being a bit of a wait for a second shot should not be an issue, many are.

Pfizer/BioNTech say COVID-19 vaccine likely to prevent asymptomatic infection

(Reuters) - Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE said on Wednesday that real-world data from Israel suggests that their COVID-19 vaccine is 94% effective in preventing asymptomatic infections, meaning the vaccine could significantly reduce transmission.

The companies also said the latest analysis of the Israeli data shows the vaccine was 97% effective in preventing symptomatic disease, severe disease and death. That is basically in line with the 95% efficacy Pfizer and BioNTech reported from the vaccine’s late-stage clinical trial in December.

The analysis also shows real-world evidence of the vaccine’s effectiveness against a highly infectious variant of COVID-19 first discovered in Britain, known as B.1.1.7. More than 80% of the tested specimens when the analysis was conucted were variant B.1.1.7.

There was only a limited number of infections in Israel caused by the so-called South African variant - known as B.1.351 - so they were not able to evaluate vaccine effectiveness against this variant.

Israel is leading the world in its vaccination roll out, due in part to an agreement to share data with Pfizer and BioNTech. As of Wednesday, around 55% of its 9 million population had been given at least one dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, according to Health Ministry data, and 43% have received both doses.

It does, especially for those of us who've had that vaccine and are awaiting the second dose

my wife was shopping at Walgreens yesterday,I walked over to make sure that my appointment for the next day would be all set,they gave me my 1st Pfizer shot right then,talk about luck,arm is just a wee bit sore ,I will be getting my 2nd shot on the 30th of March.

If having one strain of coronavirus isn't bad enough, how about being infected with TWO variants simultaneously?
Fortunately for these women who experienced it, hospitalization wasn't required, but makes you wonder how insidious the virus has become...

“He will be clear that that does not mean large events where lots of people gather, but it does mean that we can once again have an independence day with small gatherings and celebrations,” the official told reporters ahead of the speech.

My mother and brother are both front-line NHS employees, so have, I think, had both doses, now. I'm still awaiting the date for mine. I think the wait is supposedly around twelve weeks. I'm presuming I'll get a text notification like the last time.

I do agree with you, MisterDDDD. I just hope that those not wishing to vaccinate , wise-up over the next few months', so we can have a decent summer's socialising and normality.

Some nations' are most definitely still at the starting post; others are not. It's why governments' will have to continue to impose travel bans and request proof-of-vaccination documentation upon arrival. The latter, in a fairer society, is preferable, of course. Still, one cannot wait for others' to always
play catch-up. Life goes on.

One year ago today:

Thursday March 12, 2020. Norway went into lockdown, like most other countries in the world. Toilet paper and canned food sold out in stores. I heated my newspapers in my oven for 15 minutes before I read them, and did my shopping at 8am, when shops were empty.

One year on, today, we are on our way into the third wave. The variants from UK, South Africa and Brazil are building up, they spread among children, a lot more, and we need to close down one more time. Hopefully the last time this year.

I am an optimist. March and April will be tough. We need to stay 2m apart, with masks, but schools may still be open, and vaccines will be going out by the numbers. Then during the summer and the rest of the year, the younger population will be vaccinated as well.

I am sick tired of being at home for a year. Even more boring, I had a major biking accident just the same week as I arrived home from the US tour Sept 2019, so I have stayed at home for 18 - eighteen - months now. Booooooring!

I miss my friends, and I miss having a beer outside in the sun, on tour, or with friends at home. I miss the pit, and I miss the buzz of another tour. But some time, during the next twelve months, there will be great news, I hope. New dates, and the next tour is on. We just need to get rid of the virus first.
