I should probably posted the following in the 2020 Tour thread, but I just thought the following, after I have seen what is happening to the airline industry, the entertainment industries, and job security of people.

The Rolling Stones did not tour from 2008 - 2011. The financial crisis was from 2007-2008. The corona crisis is worse than the financial crisis, where it took 7 years to recover the economy. Even if there might be a vaccine some time late next year, even if The Rolling Stones are ready to tour, then I don't think the economy will be ready for a large tour with high income like they have had in the past.

I would like to thank everyone for posting in a nice and friendly way. I know it is hard, some times you may get angry, some times you feel like crying out loud. Still, most of the times people are posting with respect here. Sure I have deleted a few posts, more than usual, but still not many. Thank you - it makes it possible to keep this thread open.

Thank you, BV. Apologies as I lost my composure a bit yesterday. You know my health circumstances & I just lost it a little. I work very hard on keeping my posts even handed & non-confrontational. This thread has been excellent the majority of the time & had much crucial information. I think it will still be needed in the coming days. I've referred some people who are not necessarily huge Stones fans to the thread & they have found it very good & useful.

When the effects of this virus ebbs out I think things will get back to normal pretty quick. It will happen gradually of course. There will be a pent-up need among consumer to consume again.
In The Rolling Stones' case I think age will be the main factor. Charlie will turn 80 and the others will be one step behind 80.

Thanks, Chris. The Hawks are going to be in it as long as Russell Wilson is upright. I think they are going to end up doing a 1 year prove it contract with Clowney & if that happens they may be truly scary. I hear that Hawks are offering at least 5 million more a year than Tennessee is & no one else is in the running.

Norwegian Air was about to go bankrupt today, but at the shareholder meeting this morning, more than 95% of the shareholders voted for the rescue package. The manager named today "New Norwegian Day May 4".

Right now, they have seven - 7 - airplanes in operation in Norway. The rest of their large number of airplanes are grounded, and their leasing holders will not charge anything until they start using grounded airplanes. When life opens up, they will have focus on the Nordic market i.e. Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland. Over time, they do still want to fly long distance, but they have learned their lesson, they will take the steps gradually, as the market is coming back.

There are tough times in the airline industry. I was surprised they made it through this terrible first phase, but it seems like the alternative was worse, in that case everybody would have lost everything, and there are few others who are interested in leasing airplanes these days.

Norwegian Air wins support for rescue plan ahead of crunch vote (Guardian 4 May 2020)

The virus will not ebb out. We get a break now, but history is telling that pandemics come in waves. The next waves might hit harder.

The 1918 pandemic (a.k.a. the Spanish flu) should be understood by every single leader in the world. I bet it is one of the first topics in basic virology classes.

1918 Influenza: the Mother of All Pandemics (CDC USA)

The Deadliest Flu: The Complete Story of the Discovery and Reconstruction of the 1918 Pandemic Virus (CDC USA)

In the 1918–1919 pandemic, a first or spring wave began in March 1918 and spread unevenly through the United States, Europe, and possibly Asia over the next 6 months. Illness rates were high, but death rates in most locales were not appreciably above normal.

A second or fall wave spread globally from September to November 1918 and was highly fatal. In many nations, a third wave occurred in early 1919.

In retrospect, even the rapid progressions from uncomplicated influenza infections to fatal pneumonia, a hallmark of the 1918–1919 fall and winter waves, had been noted in the relatively few severe spring wave cases. The differences between the waves thus seemed to be primarily in the much higher frequency of complicated, severe, and fatal cases in the last 2 waves.

Sorry, for expressing myself inconsistently. What I refer to is human behaviour. We tend to forget really quick. And BV is right, the virus won't ebb out. It will go away for a while and then turn up somewhere else.

The 1918 pandemic lasted from spring 1918 until spring/summer 1919. It came in three waves.

By August 2018, when the second wave began, the virus had mutated to a much more deadly form. October 1918 was the month with the highest fatality rate of the whole pandemic.

A common theory of how the virus went away, is the 1918 virus mutated extremely rapidly to a less lethal strain. This is a common occurrence with influenza viruses: there is a tendency for pathogenic viruses to become less lethal with time, as the hosts of more dangerous strains tend to die out.

It is safe to assume that round 2 is coming in the fall. But I think it is also safe to assume round 2 will not be nearly as bad as the first round was this time. This is not 1918 or whenever This is 2020. We are far more advanced and will be and are far more prepared than we were when this virus started.

Reopening States Before June Would Save Millions Of Jobs But Result In Hundreds Of Thousands More Coronavirus Deaths: Report

"As some states begin to relax lockdown orders and allow businesses to reopen, a new report from the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM) on Friday found that reopening before June could save 18 million jobs but also result in over 200,000 additional COVID-19 deaths.

KEY FACTS

*If states keep lockdowns in place through June, about 18.6 million more jobs would be lost, PWBM projects. U.S. GDP by that point would fall to almost 12% lower than it was a year prior.

*The national death toll will near 117,000, up from the current 63,000, if lockdown orders are extended through June.

*If states begin partially reopening (lifting emergency declarations, stay-at-home orders and school closures) then the nation would see 45,000 more deaths in addition to the 117,000, PWBM’s model forecasts.

*A partial reopen would, however, save some 4.4 million jobs out of 14 million more projected to be lost in the next two months, and GDP would fall by 10.7% compared to a year earlier.

*If states were to fully reopen—immediately lifting all lockdown orders and business closures, that would lead to an additional 233,000 deaths from the coronavirus by the end of June, PWBM found.

My wife and I have absolutely no plans to go there any time soon that's for damn sure. A shame as it was a quick getaway from reality, and an easy five hour scenic drive from home for us.
Some of the precautions mentioned in those articles will be relevant when traveling anywhere though (hotel room sanitization, etc.), not to mention the impact on large concerts, sporting events, etc, etc., etc.
Strange days are here, and will be here for quite some time. Hard to imagine anything ever being the way it was before, even when there is a vaccine...

This is a good video showing what's happening currently around Vegas.
The plexiglass at the tables and in between slots will be in place at some casinos. It will be interesting to see the measures they go to.
Again, hope they find a way to accurately track the rate of transmission asa they go.

Is Las Vegas really opening up? How are people supposed to get there? Driving their own cars? Or going through airports and airplanes?

Are really people willing to expose themselves to the virus these days? Just for entertainment? I mean you have to go to the grocery store for food, and you have to go to work, and you have to visit your parents and your friends, but you don't have to sit in with a slot machine in Las Vegas.

Some hotels have started taking reservations for May 15th.
Most believe that's optimistic, the governor will have the final say.

From the article Hairball posted..
Itching to visit Las Vegas again? MGM Resorts says these Strip hotels will reopen first
"Does anyone want to return so soon? MGM officials said they are optimistic there's a pool of people itching to return to Las Vegas as soon as it is open. One key reason: About half of visitors drive to Vegas rather than fly and peak summer vacation season looms. "We do think there'll be some pent-up demand,'' Hornbuckle said. What the chain doesn't want, though, is a repeat of what happened in California when the beaches reopened last weekend, only to have the governor close some again in response to large crowds."

Nevada has only had 262 deaths

Most likely there are a large number of cases in other states where people caught the virus in Nevada. The population at any given time is extremely fluid. For instance, they get a large number of visitors from California (especially LA area) every weekend.

wash your hands frequently and thoroughly...and use sanitizer. Those work just fine after pushing a button or taking a dump.
