it's just a matter of time before something jumps the species-barrier from pigs/cows/chickens that runs rampant like Corona....
IMO, we need to self-examine and change our own practices BEFORE that happens...rather than finger-pointing and condemning what Indonesia is doing.

So Texas and Vermont will partially reopen Monday. I forsee a large jump in cases, perhaps not so much in Vermont since it has a small population. Large cities like Houston and Dallas might turn into New Orleans with the number infected.
I take screen shots on my cell phone from the Fox News website which shows current world and US cases. On Friday morning the US had 672246 cases and 33288 deaths. Today, it stood at 755533 cases and 41379 deaths. 8091 reported deaths in 2 days. At this rate, they'll hit 60000 by next weekend if they don't flatten the curve. Who knows where it'll be the weekend after that.
Just to update my numbers from Sunday afternoon, things seemed to have slowed a bit down in the US. Current US figures are 852703 cases and 47750 deaths so 97152 new cases and 6371 deaths or a little over 2000 per day. At this rate, they'll hit mid 50's by Saturday.
Another update for tonight, US figures are now at 956000 cases and 54000 deaths so 103000 new cases and 6250 deaths so still a little over 2000 per day. The curve isn't flattening but not increasing either. US will hit a million cases by Monday and hit 60000 deaths by Tuesday at the current rate. A couple weeks from now we'll see if there's a spike due to certain states partially reopening.

In Race for a Coronavirus Vaccine, an Oxford Group Leaps Ahead
As scientists at the Jenner Institute prepare for mass clinical trials, new tests show their vaccine to be effective in monkeys.
"In the worldwide race for a vaccine to stop the coronavirus, the laboratory sprinting fastest is at Oxford University.
Most other teams have had to start with small clinical trials of a few hundred participants to demonstrate safety. But scientists at the university’s Jenner Institute had a running start on a vaccine, having proved in previous trials that similar inoculations — including one last year against an earlier coronavirus — were harmless to humans.
That has enabled them to leap ahead and schedule tests of their new coronavirus vaccine involving more than 6,000 people by the end of next month, hoping to show not only that it is safe, but also that it works.
Scientists at the National Institutes of Health’s Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Montana last month inoculated six rhesus macaque monkeys with single doses of the Oxford vaccine. The animals were then exposed to heavy quantities of the virus that is causing the pandemic — exposure that had consistently sickened other monkeys in the lab. But more than 28 days later all six were healthy, said Vincent Munster, the researcher who conducted the test.
“The rhesus macaque is pretty much the closest thing we have to humans,” Dr. Munster said, noting that scientists were still analyzing the result.
The Oxford scientists now say that with an emergency approval from regulators, the first few million doses of their vaccine could be available by September — at least several months ahead of any of the other announced efforts — if it proves to be effective."

Prepare for less privacy
Whether in the workplace or the mall, people can expect that an opened-up world will involve more intrusive security measures and surveillance.
"Where it stands: While there's evidence that people are less concerned with privacy than before the pandemic hit — and more concerned with health — they still may not be ready for a world where their blood is tested for antibodies before boarding an airplane, as Dubai-based Emirates airlines has started doing.
The CEO of Delta, Ed Bastian, said the airline is considering "immunity passports" that would be required for boarding.
Other options could have a far broader reach.
Employers are entitled to mandate that workers get their temperature taken at the workplace (per a coronavirus-specific EEOC decision), report any symptoms to their boss, and get a COVID-19 vaccine if one is developed, per the WSJ.
Apple and Google are collaborating on an app-based system for contact tracing that "uses Bluetooth to determine if users have recently been in close proximity to someone with the coronavirus," Axios' Ina Fried reports.
While the tech giants envision an opt-in system, that would limit its utility, since it might not attract a critical mass of people.
People might exchange biosecurity information routinely — or even wear or carry a physical token signaling they're immune, he predicts.
"It sounds Orwellian to some, or draconian to others, but it'll protect lives."

Hmmmm...can't find any other sources for that story, and so far there's been no mention on the local news...maybe it will be on the 11:00PM news
From your link:
Via Bill Melugin
"BREAKING: A source has provided me with this bulletin that will be sent out to all California police chiefs notifying them that tomorrow,
Governor Newsom will announce the closure of ALL beaches and state parks effective May 1st in response to recent beach crowds in OC"
If true, not surprising after seeing the overcrowded beaches down in Orange County, but it kind of sucks they can ruin it for the entire state which has well over 1,000 miles of coastline: Calif. Coastline
And while it's in the best interest of everybody (especially down there), it's probably going to get a bit crazy down there when another heatwave returns this weekend.
As for me, guess I'll have to go back to enjoying the bike path...and maybe rebel by sneaking in to some secret spot beaches where there's not a soul in sight (except for seagulls).

Edit: Just found a story from this morning that Laguna Beach (also in Orange County) will reopen for weekday mornings only. KTLA 5 News
They might be in for a surprise if this latest story above is true - they'll only be able to open for tomorrow morning, and then close up again on Friday indefinitely!

Memo says California governor will order all beaches closed
A memo sent to California police chiefs says Gov. Gavin Newsom will order all beaches and state parks closed starting Friday to curb the spread of the coronavirus
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Gov. Gavin Newsom will order all beaches and state parks closed Friday after tens of thousands of people flocked to the seashore last weekend during a heat wave despite his stay-at-home order, according to a memo sent Wednesday evening to police chiefs around the state.Eric Nuñez, president of the California Police Chiefs Association, said it was sent to give chiefs time to plan ahead of Newsom’s expected announcement Thursday. A message to the governor’s office seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned.
Newsom this week targeted beachgoers in Orange and Ventura counties, calling them an example of “what not to do” if the state wants to continue its progress fighting the coronavirus. While many beaches and trails throughout the state have been closed for weeks, others have remained open with warnings for visitors to practice social distancing and more have reopened. In Newport Beach, some 80,000 visitors hit the beach over the weekend, although lifeguards said most people exercised social distancing. With criticism swirling, the Newport Beach City Council met Tuesday and rejected a proposal to close the beaches for the next three weekends. Nearby Laguna Beach approved a limited reopening. Beaches across San Diego County reopened Monday, with a few exceptions.
The governor’s order is sure to draw fire as pressure is building to ease restrictions and slowly reopen the state. Virus hospitalizations have been virtually flat for several weeks in California and the state has dodged the dreaded massive surge of patients experienced by New York and several other states.

Luckily 90% of the would is now in lockdown. Also Asia, Africa, South America. We will learn from those who follow the data, and then we will be able to live and work with the virus during the next 1-2 years, until we have it under control.
There is no quick-fix, even if some seem to think so. There is no quick-fix, and there will not be any quick-fix any time soon.

This is great news. Hopeful this is just the beginning of mass testing becoming available as testing and tracing are the only (short of a vaccine/effective treatment) ways to reduce infections/deaths and to "open up" the country.

Los Angeles is now the first major US city to offer free coronavirus testing for all residents
(CNN)Los Angeles is offering free coronavirus testing to all residents, becoming the first major United States city to do so.
"We have the capacity so don't wait, don't wander and don't risk infecting others," Mayor Eric Garcetti said when he made the announcement at a news conference on Wednesday.
The testing became available Wednesday night and there is no limit on the number of tests residents can get, Garcetti said. Those who get tested at drive-thru testing sites can usually get results within 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, no comprehensive testing in Seattle, and “neighborhood watch” vigilantes are forming to dole out rough justice now that the police have stopped prosecuting misdemeanors due to COVID-19. It’s turning into the Wild West out here:

Sadly, the homeless will be scapegoated for the actions of a few bad actors and the inability of public officials to find solutions for the housing, mental illness, drug addiction and job training and job placement issues at the heart of the problem.
If the police stop prosecuting criminal activity, though, things could turn ugly fast.
