Each society got people who are dumb or clever...watching some photos and clips
from the US recently some of those people aren't clever...they don't care about themselves and of course
they don't care about others...don't worry,in Germany that kind of people exists as well.
Maybe not in this militant and aggressive style...so far...

But don't label them Trump supporters just because they are not doing what you want them to do.

Trump calls protesters against stay-at-home orders 'very responsible' (The Guardian 18 Apr 2020)

“LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” the US president wrote in capital letters on Friday. “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!”

He followed up with a third tweet: “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!” – a reference to Virginia’s governor, Ralph Northam, last week signing into law new measures on gun control.

Trump has repeatedly ignored his own entreaty to put partisan politics aside during the coronavirus pandemic. His latest provocative interventions followed demonstrations against stay-at-home orders in Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and other states that have drawn elements of the far right.

Some protesters have carried guns, waved Trump and Confederate flags and sought to frame the debate as a defence of constitutional freedoms. They have been egged on by conservative media hosts such as Fox News’s Jeanine Pirro, who said: “What happened in Lansing [Michigan] today, God bless them: it’s going to happen all over the country.”

They are not all Trump supporters. Some and Probably many of them are just people that want to go back to work etc.

Maybe there should be a government that supports its people more.

Georgia to reopen some businesses as early as Friday

WTF

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp says some businesses ordered closed to mitigate coronavirus threats may begin reopening statewide Friday
By JEFF AMY Associated Press
April 20, 2020, 2:46 PM

ATLANTA -- Georgia's Republican governor announced plans Monday to restart the state's economy before the end of the week, saying many businesses that closed to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus could reopen as early as Friday. Gov. Brian Kemp's timetable, one of the most aggressive in the nation, would allow gyms, hair salons, bowling alleys, tattoo parlors and other businesses to reopen as long as owners follow strict social-distancing and hygiene requirements. By Monday, movie theaters may resume selling tickets, and restaurants limited to takeout orders could return to limited dine-in service. In neighboring Tennessee, Gov. Bill Lee announced that most businesses will begin reopening as soon as next week. "In the same way that we carefully closed businesses and urged operations to end to mitigate the virus’s spread, today we’re announcing plans to incrementally and safely reopen sectors of our economy," Kemp said. Bars, nightclubs and live performance venues will remain closed.

Kemp’s action comes a month after he closed many businesses and not quite three weeks after he issued a shelter-at-home order that will remain in place until April 30. Kemp said elderly and medically fragile people should continue to stay at home until May 13. The governor said a decline in emergency room visits by people with flu-like symptoms indicates that infections are coming down. But he acknowledged Georgia has lagged when it comes to COVID-19 testing and announced new initiatives to ramp it up. He said the state medical college in Augusta will begin producing thousands of swabs each day for collecting test samples. The school will also offer an online app statewide that would let people with symptoms consult with a clinician and be referred for testing if warranted. Meanwhile, the Georgia National Guard will begin deploying teams to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities with equipment for administering 1,500 tests per day. “Testing defines the battlefield and informs our long-term strategy,” Kemp said. "These efforts significantly increase our capacity as we take measured steps forward.”

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, also a Republican, said his mandatory safer-at-home order will expire April 30, which will pave the way for 89 of the state’s 95 counties to begin opening businesses. But Lee’s announcement did not apply to counties with the largest cities, including Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, Madison, Shelby and Sullivan counties — areas that are not overseen by Tennessee’s Department of Health but have their own public health districts. Lee said officials were "working directly with our major metropolitan areas to ensure they are in a position to reopen as soon and safely as possible.” Some businesses will be allowed to reopen as early as April 27, but it was unclear exactly which ones will be granted such clearance. Lee told reporters that such details would be finalized by his economy recovery team later this week.

Heath officials say Georgia’s death toll from COVID-19 has risen above 700 as new numbers were reported Monday. At least 733 deaths statewide have been linked to the virus, the Georgia Department of Public Health said. Infections have been confirmed in nearly 19,000 people. Kemp's announcement followed calls from President Donald Trump and protesters to lift restrictions. Shane Hazel, a libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate, promoted a small protest Sunday at the Cherokee County courthouse in Canton. In video posted on his Facebook page, Hazel argued that the restrictions were an unconstitutional imposition and that officials had “overstepped.” State Rep. David Clark, a Buford Republican, posted online Friday that it was “time for Georgia and America to reopen for business. If we continue on the path we are headed down, we will totally destroy not only the U.S. economy, but also the world economy,” he said.

Automaker Kia planned to reopen its manufacturing plant in west Georgia next week after a nearly monthlong shutdown that the company attributed to supply chain shortages and concerns about the virus. All 2,800 workers at Kia’s plant in West Point will return to work when production resumes, plant spokesman Rick Douglas said. Douglas did not give a specific reopening date. Georgia's only auto plant has been shut down since March 30. On Monday, about 40 workers at the plant began making face shields to help offset a shortage of protective gear for medical workers and first responders. The company said those workers are having their temperatures scanned and are being provided with masks and gloves. Their workstations are arranged to enforce social distancing. Douglas said similar safeguards will be used when the rest of Kia’s Georgia employees return to work next week.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms. For some, it can cause severe illness such as pneumonia or death.

I was replying to jumpontopofmebaby saying that some people want to go back to work, etc. If people cannot afford to not work during this lockdown, the government should support them more. If you can find money to have the largest defence budget in the world, you can find money to help people more.

The protests are insane.

No, they are Trump supporters. From what I understand this was a coordinated effort by several ultra right groups whom are Trump supporters. Shameful our President supports and encourages this
awful spectacle. A low point in our history.

However, "Home of the Free and Brave" is obviously a reference to Americans.

Moreover, your discussions w/ Hairball make it quite clear what country you are referring to...

you were referring to A country, were you not?

If anyone gets the Smithsonian channel, there is a series called America’s Hidden Stories and tonight’s episode deals with the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, including what happens when the curve isn’t quite flattened and society reopens. Someone who has already seen it recommended it for me, I have it set to record.

It is 102 years ago, but people don't learn from history...

A parade that killed thousands? (The Week April 18, 2020)

On Sept. 28, 1918, Philadelphia city officials refused to cancel their parade amid the Spanish flu pandemic, with devastating health consequences.

By the second week in November, 12,000 Philadelphians were dead, and the phrase "bodies stacked like cordwood" had become commonplace among the survivors. "It was an apocalyptic scene," said Davis. "In some cases, public-health nurses would be walking into tenements and finding whole families dead." Bodies piled up on sidewalks after the city morgue, capable of holding only 36 people, was overwhelmed. Within six months, 16,000 were dead, and 500,000 Philadelphians had fallen ill with the flu.

The Trump supporters of Philadelphia took to the streets today, protesting the lockdown and acting like fools!

Were all of them just Trump supporters?

How many wearing MAGA hats?

I don't see any

Look closer, There are quite a few. Most are tRump supporters not Democrats who want to go back to work. The NBC News poll showed about the same percentage wanted to end the lock down as the percentage considered his base. The majority wants to wait til it is safer and there is testing.

No they are just people tired of being locked down and out of work.

They feel it is their choice to take the risk or not.

I get that. I don't agree but I get it. And I can avoid them.

I don't smoke and never have. Some people do knowing damn well it can kill them.

Not everyone thinks the same.

If YOU smoke YOU will kill YOU. If you are infected with coronavirus YOU will kill OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE. How is that the same? It is like drunk driving. Are you ok with that too?

Time out. Eddie isn't a hateful person. He's stressed out over a serious situation. People say things or imply things when they're stressed they wouldn't generally voice. Don't take it to heart.

The United States covers so much territory and so many people that generalizations rarely apply. If you respect the president, wonderful for you. If you dislike the president, console yourself that he didn't win the popular vote four years ago. I'm an American. I've never owned a gun. I work in a hospital. Currently I'm working 2nd and 3rd shift meaning lots of hours every day at an inconvenient time.

I understand the protests. Some people (even some IORRians) are barely surviving if at all. My son's stimulus check was $20. That hardly helps. He's stuck at university and can't leave the campus or else he can't get back in. He's hoping he's able to travel across country to get back home next month after his Finals, but we don't know if that will happen. He's fortunate I'm still working. The majority of Americans aren't going to work. I have a niece who filed for unemployment, but still hasn't received a single check because our state is overwhelmed with unemployment applications.

Some of the protesters are loons who think it's time for a civil war. Some of them are bored and spoiled and just want to party again. Many of them are just scared people looking at losing their homes, their car, their savings, facing starvation in some instances (not an exaggeration). Many people are surviving now by putting everything (including food) on their credit cards. When the inflation hits, it will be devastating. Letting the U.S. Government become majority shareholder in the biggest industries in return for bailout money will help, but not enough. This isn't a vacation where things go back to normal. Hospitals are closing. Small businesses have mostly gone bankrupt. We're looking at mass pay-cuts and job reductions as we ease out of this lockdown. It's the only path forward because the house of cards is collapsing.

You think it's bad now, wait until the inner city starts rioting. There won't be enough police or military to control social unrest. What is more, we're already seeing suburbs that no longer have a fire department because COVID-19 breakouts caused the fire station to shut down. When fires start and the local fire department is shuttered, consider the damage and loss including loss of life before responders from the next suburb or two arrive on the scene.

People are demanding to return to work to survive. Most do not understand the hard times that are ahead of them. This isn't an unpaid vacation. It's a game-changer for society. What was normal for so long, a world largely built around luxury because industrialization and technology kept many of us fat and happy is over. That will become apparent in coming months and over-spoilt children will not like hearing that things are tough all over and are about to get harder still. That's when all the smoke and bullets will be in the air when riots and looting and worse crimes begin.

Yes, it's a harsh reality, but that's what will happen in the urban areas. People have, by and large, been remarkably calm and civil. This isn't just cabin fever you're seeing, it's scared people and scared people do dangerous things, especially when armed. Happily, most of the protesters aren't walking around with guns. Remember the media shows the most sensational to get a reaction. That's true of CNN and Fox News. Sensationalism is not about partisan politics. The U.S. is about to pay the price for decades of encouraging us to be a nation divided. It made for great copy. It kept people agitated and voting despite the fact that at the top level, the special interests that run the show didn't care which party was in office. We spent and spent and borrowed and borrowed and now all the debt is about to collapse on itself. That's when the blaming will begin and with the blaming, the need for a scapegoat. This is nothing new, but it will still be unpleasant.

I'll let more reasonable folks have the soapbox now. Thanks for listening.

Home of the Brave, Land of the Free.

The Brave are the frontline workers, essential workers and everyone who's isolating and doing their part so we can all continue to be Free.

These frontline nurses in Arizona, stood in silent protest while the protest was underway.
You might think they would not be harassed, yelled at etc., in that type of counter-protest.
You'd be wrong.

Wow Rocky come back to the soapbox more often. Be safe out there...

Exactly and we have them in Europe and I'm sure, everywhere else too.

What more can a government, or any entity do, than to try to protect lives?

In America, do it in a way that is consistent with the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights or don't do it at all. Period.

Time out. Eddie isn't a hateful person. He's stressed out over a serious situation. People say things or imply things when they're stressed they wouldn't generally voice. Don't take it to heart.

Cheers Rocky for your kind statement - I am stressed by all this - I've been in alone for 4 weeks (at least 8 to go - Emphysema) - however, I don't take back what I said.
As I said, the US is the home of the Bald eagle - that doesn't make every eagle in the US a Bald eagle, so............

If he can't understand that analogy, I can't help him......Obviously I don't think every American is stupid, that would be an absurd position to take............I guess some people just like to fight.

(I have to admit though, some of the stress is a bit self inflicted, reading about those protests in the US - self inflicted as it will probably never affect me - I live in the UK where people have taken, the huge economic sacrifice, the social distancing (No groups larger than 2 except immediate family - no bedside deathbed attendance allowed) - with great equanimity.

I normally have a policy of not thinking about anything I can't do anything about - Time for some more self discipline.

Last, good luck to you in work...............You guys and girls are the bravest and the best on the planet...................smileys with beersmileys with beersmileys with beer

If YOU smoke YOU will kill YOU. If you are infected with coronavirus YOU will kill OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE. How is that the same? It is like drunk driving. Are you ok with that too?

You don't lock a nation of 330 million people down for a virus that by and large is NOT a mortal threat to anyone under 55 with no serious underlying medical conditions. If for whatever reason the virus is a mortal threat to YOU, then YOU may CHOOSE to STAY HOME and STAY SAFE. Let's face the fact that virus prevention has become VASTLY more damaging than the damn virus itself.

Nice post Rocky D, and stay safe.

Re: MisterDDDD’s post about the nurse’s counter-protest... I was thinking about what might sway the activists trying to re-open everything, and was thinking about the fundamental lack of trust that there seems to be - lack of trust of science, media, politicians, name it. And I wondered... who would people trust? Who could get through to people, about how necessary this is, how bad the consequences will be if this is mis-handled? So I looked up the most trusted professions and at the top? Nurses. (Followed by Doctors and Pharmacists.) I don’t know about other countries, but there are a lot of ads up here featuring medical staff in full scrubs and PPE, holding up signs that say ‘We came to work for you. You stay home for us.’ Yet even the trusted professions can’t seem to compete with the mis-information coming from other sources. If we as a society can’t believe the experts or understand science-based policy, this is not going to be easily, or successfully, resolved.

The cure may be considered more damaging than the virus but take away that cure and then you will really see how deadly this virus can be.
There was simply no other option but to shut down and keep people away from each other otherwise you would have people dying in hospital corridors as they were in Italy or even in the street outside because there is no more room in the hospital.
And today I read that in the state of Georgia USA they are going to open up cinemas and nail salons this Friday because they consider these to be essential business. This is both unbelievably stupid and evil.

I agree, but I don't go into politics, cause BV won't allow it. The picture he posted says it all though.winking smiley

Bv did post that photo, as well as the tabloid trash article "Gun-toting Trump voters march against US lockdown despite world's highest deaths"
(MIRROR UK 17 APR 2020)

So let's not kid ourselves about what is not allowed here.

If you are a person at risk. Then you better watch out for you. Period. Does not matter if the shut down is over or not. The corona virus is obviously a lot more contagious than the flu. But.... when it is all said and done the death rate percentage will be about the same if not less than the flue. The problem is more people will get the corona virus because it is more contagious than the flu. So. I choose to assume if I get it...it will not be good. But there are many people that are not the least bit worried. So i will not allow someone else to infect me. I am responsible for me ! Life goes on. Right or wrong. People need to get back to work save their business etc.

It's not a may be, the prevention IS more damaging than the virus. The American people went along with this for the sake of "flattening the curve". Ok? Mission accomplished. It's time to reopen the country. Period. We can quibble at state level how that is to be achieved, but we're not gonna stay hiding in our homes afraid of the COVID-19 boogeyman indefinitely. In fact, you'll begin to see THE PEOPLE have decided enough is enough.

Yes I agree the cure is incredibly damaging and is unsustainable but what do you think is going to happen when things open up and people start mixing again.
I’m sorry but it’s obvious that this is only round one of a fight that could go twelve rounds.Anyone betting on an early knockout is delusional.
