Boris has spoken. U.K. now in total lockdown.

All shops closed apart from bare essentials.

Gatherings of more than 2 people banned.

No leaving the house except to buy food or 1 walk a day.

All Weddings and other social events now cancelled.

EDiT: I meant 2 people! Damn phone!

He should have been clearer about what essential travel to work means.

Agreed. I think he meant key workers and he should have said that. I am one myself. I was at work today, with all due social distance precautions. But I can work from home if forced to and probably will be now, though it gets awkward after a day or 2.

We are all the same here in the U.K. in these times, that I have not seen in my lifetime ..........and I was born in 1952.
If Mick,Keith,Charlie and Ronnie are over here in U.K. they are restricted in our everyday life as are all of us.

We are all in this together.........all over the world, and we will come out of this probably as a lot stronger individuals as we were before.

God Bless us All.smileys with beer

The U.K. lockdown will be reviewed after 3 weeks. I can easily see this goIng on for several months, until new cases are consistently down to zero. And even then, restrictions will only be lifted slowly.

Gigs are probably a total non starter for the rest of 2020 and even once we’ve passed this episode, another factor will deter many acts from touring. The economy is goIng to tank after this and promoters won’t offer anything like the same fees to bands. Insurance will be extremely expensive too because a resurgence of the virus will be a threat for the next couple of years. Sorry to paint a gloomy picture but I’m being realistic. Normal service will resume eventually but it could be slow.

The same applies to professional sport, though elite sport can be televised with no spectators present.

In other related news, looks like the Olympics are being postponed...

2020 Olympics

"the Games will likely be moved to 2021, with the details to be worked out in the next four weeks"

Yeah I suspect this will go on for quite some time.I was due to go to Asia and Australia in a few weeks time and I’m going to rearrange the trip for November but even that seems like it could be ambitious.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves...The good news is that the UK is doing the right thing, at last, the bad news is that one can expect the numbers to grow there for 14 days with a likely spike in 6/7 days like in France. It's going to be a rough ride...

Meanwhile, Trump's administration is thinking about changing its strategy, and rolling back social restrictions. The president tweets:

“We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself. At the end of the 15-day period we will make a decision as to which way we want to go"

I am afraid winning this so called war - to keep economy somehow intact or not falling too much - will cost many American lives.

Lives are worth a helluva lot more than money. The economy can always recover. Dead people cannot come back. We must all do whatever it takes.

True of course but unfortunately those in the halls of power don’t hold the same view.

Fully Agreed. But let’s stay out of trouble and not name the guilty. It’s not a short list!

Hopefully some good will eventually come out of this. Better animal welfare/food safety standards, better hygiene etc. I know in some countries that might be a forlorn hope. These ‘wet markets’ I hear about sound scary.

With so many forced to work from home for what is likely to be a prolonged period (those of us who are lucky enough to keep our jobs at all!), I can see the post virus workplace being different in some way.

When normality does eventually return, it will be slow and tentative for quite some time with either a resurgence of this virus or the development of another a constant concern for a while.

I would be absolutely astounded if those wet markets are not forced to shut down and sanctions imposed on states that don’t act.The world can not afford to go through this every few years.

The White House Press Briefing is well underway. It’s pretty clear that Trump is changing his stance on the current situation.
America is getting ready to open for business again.
(Just my opinion based on what I am hearing.)

I expect the WH to call for an end this weekend. I doubt if many local governors will pay much attention.

That would be utter madness. I don’t have much of a grasp on the American political system but very much hope the mayors and governors ignore the latest from Trump

In Holland it's extended to the first of June no lock down but close to it...

No gathering for more than 2 people except for close family
Only go out for shopping for food or necessarily work
Keep distance for 1.5 meter
and a lot more..........

To roll back social restrictions, while the rate of infections seems to be rising and only a small amount of the population has been tested, is crazy.
I realize this is to improve the economy but this move can only increase
the number of infections which ultimately will have to be dealt with by
reintroducing these social restrictions which will again kill the economy.
However, at that time, there will be many more people infected and sadly
many more people dead. So, in my opinion, lifting social restrictions now
will bring us a prolonged crisis - both financially and humanitarian.

Our Gov just upped the restrictions.
Only essential trips work businesses etc

Same as most of us have been doing, and no doubt will continue to regardless.

It's a very had road to navigate with respect to how to handle the economy and save as many lives as possible. By tomorrow (Tuesday the 24th of March) there will likely be more than 400,000 people infected world-wide and more than 50,000 in America. That might mean there are roughly 500,000 infected in America.

Assuming that the pandemic can not be stopped, then there is some path that tries to keep the economy functioning at a decent partial capacity without overwhelming the medical system. It feels like eventually the vast majority of us will get infected before a vaccine is available. At 61 years old and suffering from the occasional bout of asthma, it's not a pleasant thing to contemplate.
