The Republican government (Okay, supported by all Democrtats) has voted for costfree coronavirus tests and a "bonus" package of 500 billion or so to give each American a 1000$ stimulance. Only a few Republicans didn't like it.
This looks like socialisme (finally) grinning smiley
But no kidding ... stay healthy everybody!!! Plenty of Stones songs to choose from.

Sorry Chris, I wouldn't know, but, just like in my country, implimentations of promisses takes time. Already small companies (with too heavy startup loans) have
filed for bankrupty, so for them near future help is already too late. I hope (in case you're in financial trouble, which I hope not) Trump's people act fast. Follow the news and announcements closely!
Hanging on could save many.

Here is an update from the American Midwest. Schools in Indiana will remain closed until May 1. All schools on waivers or e-learning programs.

Many outdoor youth sports clubs across Indiana and Ohio (soccer, etc.) are on hold until middle of April.

Other states will follow soon.

Today Indiana has 55 cases and two deaths.

I wouldn't count on the help from federal government. So far all talk but nothing more.

The spread in NY is terrifying...over 4000 cases (almost half of the total US cases). My parents live about 2 hours north of NYC and I live about the same distance away near Hartford, CT.

Remember the dreadful footage of the Australian wildfires? That's exactly like the way the Covid-19 spreads and kills.

Here in Canada on the west coast - it was just announced that as of noon tomorrow the border with the US will only be for essential travel - I'm very impressed with our Canadian Gov response to this, if we all simply follow the protocol I think we are gonna be fine. Our head of BC health Dr. Bonnie Henry has been an outstanding calming force to our area.

Stay safe all !!

I'm afraid to tell you this is very complacent. And I felt exactly the same way 3 weeks ago. I'm in London UK. We are 3 weeks behind Italy which as of today has around 4500 dead exceeding China

Um, er.... The population of China is SIXTY times the population of Italy. So, arguably, the milestone Italy passed was really passed long ago and they are far far more worse off.

Deaths per capita of population should be quoted.

Agreed, while Bonnie Henry has been a calming force she's moving too slow. Why is there not a total shutdown? BC Ferries still ferrying, BC Transit still bussing and Skytraining, most businesses still open, restaurants have some stringent regulations now, but seriously the only way to end this is total shutdown before we're in the Italian upcurve.

In California, where schools are closed, we’ve been told they won’t reopen until the Fall.

Awwww...these kids in British Columbia wrote a great song about staying home during the virus outbreak. And the young piano player...Ben Waters should watch his back, this kid has serious chops!

Yep. My wife is a high school teacher in Ohio. She and her co-workers are all operating under the assumption that they won’t be returning to school anymore during this school year (which ends around the first week of June).

She is currently working from home, AND homeschooling our kids (6&8) since they can’t go to school. She is super busy!

Why is Italy different from China vs the coronavirus problem?

China is a country of 1400 million people. Of these people, W u h a n, a city of 11 million people, and areas around, total approx 60 million people. When the crisis was detected, they closed down the entire area. They built many new large hospitals immediately. People were not allowed to leave their houses. They did extreme protection and do still run that protection. The 60 million people in W u h a n and that area had the economical muscle of entire China, and China acted fast.

Italy did not know the virus was in the north for a month or so, and when they found it, they closed some small villages. Then another month and it was out of control. Still people in Italy are allowed to go to the grocery store. Italy is some 60 mill total in population, and they have to do everything themselves. They asked EU for help but they did not get any masks or other items. They could not build new hospitals in a week, and they could not force people to stay in their houses all over Italy from day one of the crisis.

But ... if Italy do the same as China are doing, the crisis will be over in a couple of months time. Until then, it will look bad, unfortunately, and the same goes for other countries, they are just a few weeks later in the timeframe.

I've had an interesting day. Did an hour long appointment with my rheumatologist via computer video. I see him every 8 weeks without fail & we had to cancel in house appointment this week. He was checking on my well being & we started making plans on how we are going to proceed with RA treatments. The current one wasn't working & we have stopped it. It is messing with my immune system though. If my virus test is negative, I will go in later next week. A few things that may interest some of you: Ibuprofen & virus don't mix. This may apply to other anti-inflammatories as well, especially ones with a steroid component. It is being studied & I've been taken off the one I use. We talked about me getting blood work & how that is a challenge if virus test positive. His comment was "you've read about leper colonies?". This doctor is a top guy in his field. I will take him at his word. He's kept me going for 10 years, which is a lot longer than the expectation was initially.

Parts of the US have chosen Italy. I live in Ohio, and our governor had become pretty famous his overly cautious handling of this. We’ve essentially been on lockdown for over a week now.

It’s not surprising that both the U.K. and the U.S.A. seem to be sleepwalking into a disaster when the leader of the U.K. makes a joke saying we’re making a last gasp effort to produce ventilators and the White House referring to the virus as kung flu.

Mixed feelings here in Wa state. Governor Inslee has been great.
Way early on social distancing, shutdowns etc., but also way early on identifying that the virus was present and killing people.

Yes. Our “leaders” have been woefully inadequate. Especially Trump. Just child-like. I fear we are in for a worldwide recession of huge magnitude. And I am an optimist by nature. And to me it makes The Stones decision to “postpone” the tour, and effectively making the tickets sold for this years tour non refundable, an economic burden many of US should not have to bear.

I only have 4 LDip tickets. So it’s not THAT bad. But I would rather use that USD 350-ish myself in the next 5-6 months than leave it with, whoever has it. As a now out of work travel agent!

We tried to warn people that this psychopathic carnival barker wasn't up to handling a real crisis, but the other side thought it would be fun to toss a hand grenade into the machinery of government "just to shake things up".

Well, here we are. I really hope they enjoy dying of COVID-19 to "own the libs".

It wouldn't surprise me if we are all getting sand thrown in our eyes.
It was mentioned before ... the 2017/2018 influenza killed more than 60.000 in the USA alone, and in my country 9400 (the current corona death figure is just under 100). How about other countries? No global (media and political) panic in 2018! I find that very strange, to say the least. To me it more and more starts to look like a big comedy show over the lives of many sick (and deceased) people with possibly very deeply "hidden" underlying motives. Global monitary control or something else still invisible.
Time will tell us ...

Hopefully the vast majority will survive this and by this time next year things will be looking up...............I do wonder though, if, apart from finding medical solutions now and for the future, the west will address the root problem which was China's propensity to allow the horrific abuse of animals especially in those 'wet' markets where all this started.
There is not one single animal welfare law in China. They can treat animals however they want and they do. (Boiling and skinning cats and dogs alive etc)

I used to see those places in Hong Kong in 1970 where anybody could just pick a live animal they wanted to eat and it would be slaughtered on the spot. All types of fowl and fish but also cats, dogs, monkeys, snakes etc etc....and I heard that in this particular market they had wolf cubs and of course the infamous bat where, supposedly, the virus came from.

They have no safe hygiene practices. They disgusted me then and still do..............I can't do much as an individual but I will be writing to my MP (Member of Parliament) and would encourage everyone else to do so too (MPs, Senators or whoever) to put pressure on the Chinese government before those barbarians kill us all too.

And that's not to mention the theft of elephant tusks and rhino horns to feed their insane ideas about aesthetics (tusks) and virility (horns).

I'm not comfortable using the word "barbarians", but at a certain point, it becomes more than "cultural differences"...there are outdated and cruel practices, completely bogus and scientifically-illiterate "cures" for illness, etc.

I have no idea how you address things like this with a closed off, authoritarian capitalist government that has become a massive cog in the world's economy.

Look at what happened with the NBA last year. A modest tweet about freedom from a single GM cost the sport half a billion dollars.

It's very important that these practices stop, because they need to. Also should mention many Chinese eat the undigested food taken from the intestines of a porcupine. They claim it cures cancer and diabetes. In India, Hindu's are drinking cow urine, which they believe protects them from coronavirus.
