I'm in the high risk-group. I barely go out and I work from home these days.

As I'm sure is the case with many of you, it's driving me up the wall.

Today I have to go to the hospital to do blood tests. Many have been infected at that very hospital. In fact, they had to shut down a department because many doctors and health workers got the virus.

Wish me luck smiling smiley

Stay safe everyone!

good luck! i'm going stir crazy, also. i've been doing the shelter in place thing for over 2 weeks. when i had the test yesterday the doctor told me to continue to do so. not quite full quarantine but have only been going to grocery store & pharmacy when needed. i also wear a mask when i do this. i get the results Monday or Tuesday. fingers crossed. hope all goes well for you. being at risk is no fun but luckily i've had practice staying in when i've had chemo treatments so it is not a total shock. be well & safe!

Quick Forum Question: How do I find the NFL thread - need to make comment on Tom Brady's move. I tried through search function but it seems to be message oriented.

The Republican government (Okay, supported by all Democrtats) has voted for costfree coronavirus tests and a "bonus" package of 500 billion or so to give each American a 1000$ stimulance. Only a few Republicans didn't like it.

This is totally playing roulette with our lives . I have been deemed essential with my position at work , which is good and bad . I really think the powers that be really don't know what this pandemic will do and they are just winging it . Now it looks like I might have to work on Saturday , so if asked how can I refuse in an National Emergency and also my sense of duty and honor and Patriotism . Yet at the same time I am scared as scata .Tons of people are losing there jobs and way to support there families . Now at my work we are staying open longer hours to help process people going on Unemployment and providing the lifeline , which is vital and urgent for survival . The Governor has directed all employers to reduce staffing by 50% to try to stop the spread of the virus and I am not optimistic at all that will help . As this is an invisible and silent and deadly virus and as I write this who knows who is infected or not . One close friend I spoke in person yesterday is not the slightest concerned as he thinks it is just a flu bug and he has a wife and a house full of kids . The virus is so close to my home that a 7 year old tested positive at the local grade school about a half mile from my home . The local hospital just around the corner from my home has the tents set up in the parking lot to help with testing . I really feel we are flying blindly without a net or any means of safety gear what so ever .God Help us all !

This is getting worse by the hour and the reality is this won’t be the last time this happens if these wild animal markets in Asia and other parts of the world are allowed to continue trading.
This is mother nature’s revenge.

That's similar to the first thing I thought, "the revenge of the animals".

Curious also that the measures humans are now being forced to take now more or less mirror the the actions suggested/advocated by scientists to fight climate change...........less flying, less travel generally, less consumerism, shops closed now in Italy, therefore less manufacturing, therefore less pollution...............

The virus will be contained in 14 days if there is a complete close-down in place.

You do not need to go to China to get this confirmed. The small village Frosta in Norway got 22 positive coronavirus cases out of their 2,500 population, i.e. 1%, the highest percentage of any community in Norway. Frosta started closing down March 6, when they had got the first coronavirus cases. By March 12 they had 22 cases, and as of today, still just 22 cases, i.e. no more cases the past week.

Run these links through google chrome translate from Norwegian into your own language, and you will see how the virus may be contained in 14 days:

Kommune med svært strenge tiltak – fekk kontroll på virussituasjon

Status lokalt - oppdatert informasjon om status og utviklingen på Frosta

The horizon of the virus being around in the world is 12-18 months. On the other hand, it takes just 14 days to contain it, if everyone sit still. By extended testing and close-down it is possible to contain the virus in two months time.

I am an optimist. Finally the most conservative politicians in the western world have come to understand this is a fatal virus, not just threatening old or weak people, but also their economy. Money talks. We see more and shut-down coming, and I think there will be less cases in the summer. But before then, some weeks with very ugly numbers, unfortunately.

New York Times about testing for the coronavirus in USA:

Politicians, celebrities, social media influencers and even N.B.A. teams have been tested for the new coronavirus. But as that list of rich, famous and powerful people grows by the day, so do questions about whether they are getting access to testing that is denied to other Americans.

In New Rochelle, a community north of Manhattan where the virus has spread, a sick mother was told she could not get tested because she hadn’t been to a global “hot spot.” In Boston, an employee at Biogen, a tech company where many dozens tested positive after a conference, was turned away because he didn’t have symptoms. On Twitter, the hashtag #CDCWontTestMe has been circulating for weeks.

I have a question:

Which, if any, major countries, or any countries for that matter, are uninfected, or unaffected by COViD-19?

Are there any places where life is going on totally 100% as normal?

Thanks.

There you go, it looks like a few places in Africa, a couple in Asia and East Timor and Venezuela ... [www.cdc.gov]

Thanks Eddie!

Right after the entry for Angola there is a "list of countries that have not reported any suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus". How life is going on there is a different question.

For those interested: according to that page, the State of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, to which also Mustique belongs, reported "its first case in a female who had travelled to the UK".

Thank you!

Younger Adults Comprise Big Portion of Coronavirus Hospitalizations in U.S.
Younger Adults Comprise Big Portion of Coronavirus Hospitalizations in U.S.
New C.D.C. data showed that nearly 40 percent of patients sick enough to be hospitalized were aged 20 to 54. But the risk of dying was significantly higher in older people.

“I think everyone should be paying attention to this,” said Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
“It’s not just going to be the elderly. There will be people age 20 and up. They do have to be careful, even if they think that they’re young and healthy.”
That makes me very nervous...I'm 41 and I had a splenectomy in my early 20s. It's really had no bearing on how I've lived my life, except I have to be vaccinated for the flu and pneumonia regularly, and I'm a bit more susceptible to head colds than I used to be...but with this pandemic? I'm technically immunocompromised, so I'm being as careful as I can.

Hang in there, Big Al. I wouldn't want to be at my former job right about now. I got out in August. Be well

Thank you. This is really tough, as it undoubtedly is for so, so many, also. It’s the not knowing when I can return that’s particularly bothering me. Nobody knows how this will pan-out and we can all return to a form of normality.

I mentioned this when I was fighting to get a test. The people in the health care system don't like it when things like this are brought up regardless if they are true. 1 would think the government would step in & make sure ALL kits being manufactured are being put into the system for everyone given the critical shortages that exist, at least in the US. It's the usual money uber alles though.

The NBA has been using private labs. They're not getting preferential treatment, and it was 100% prudent for teams to be tested once several players came back positive.

I'm not excusing the despicable lack of testing among the general population, but the NBA did the right thing as long as they didn't push to the front of the line (which they didn't to the best of my knowledge).

I certainly hope so, but it's only two data points. As you said, several days worth of data will be needed to show which way it's trending there.

I concur, and couple that with the fact that the number of new cases is over 5000 for the first time, and I don't think you have evidence of a curve "slowing down" quite yet.
