The problem with tours planning to postpone rather than cancel is also that nobody knows when it is safe to postpone to--the projected date for the end of the outbreak keeps being pushed back more and more. No point rescheduling just to have to reschedule again.

The fact that the Rolling Stones have chosen to stay silent about the tour and have not made any kind of announcement yet shows how little they actually care about their fans. Even if they are unsure about what they are going to do at this point just say something FFS! They are the trendiest and most UN fan-friendly band on the planet.

Come on man. Don't you have anything else to worry about now. They will cancel it, we all know they will cancel it, they just haven't cancelled it yet. Other artists with tours starting in May haven't cancelled, same with festivals.

I don’t have time to look as you already know so can you name those artists and festivals.
The JazzFest to start in first of May is the most glaring yet to cancel/postpone. Though it is a given that they do and move it to October.

Jazz Fest is such a huge undertaking they need to take a lot of factors into consideration such as availability of hotel rooms, weather, artists schedules, etc. before they can announce a new date. But it's inevitable it will be postponed.

Everything through at least May will be cancelled or postponed. No urgency or benefit to cancel May dates yet but in next few weeks they will all happen.

I don’t get what you are saying. Meanwhile there are millions of $ sitting in Ticketmaster bank accounts in advance of a tour cancellation/postponement. No urgency or benefit to cancel? Why not? Ticket buyers are entitled to a refund. There can be no expectation of a reschedule due to the unexpected. This is BS. And I love The Stones but somewhere someone has to call it a day. And cancel this tour.

I would love to know the reason(s) behind why this tour has not been canceled or postponed by now.

Tour start is Friday May 8. That is still almost two months away. Most governmental emergency laws are valid for 30 days or so. Even if this is legal stuff, I am sure we are now just days away from an announcement by The Rolling Stones.

Most likely the delay in an official announcement by the RS management is caused by the efforts of rescheduling and guaranteeing the same venues later in 2020. Even if the second set of dates turns out to be unfeasible eventually, at least they don't have to refund everyone (which they would have if the concerts are indeed cancelled rather than postponed).

Here in Washington state several of the Native American tribes are shutting down their casinos & hotels for at least the next 2 weeks. Regardless of where you stand on that subject, they are an important source of income for them. They are quite popular with retired people. The one I go to once in awhile (Suquamish) is very socially responsible pumping all the money back into the community (hospitals, schools, etc). They are continuing to pay their staff during the closure also.

So who else here is currently self-isolating?

I experienced - what I initially thought to be, anyway - flu-like symptoms this past Friday afternoon. It was almost an attack, actually. I’m feeling much better, but I cannot return to work for a week. I’m climbing the walls already.

Late Sunday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidance recommending that, for the next eight weeks, "large events and mass gatherings" that draw 50 or more people should be canceled or postponed. Such types of events include "conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies," the CDC said.

so 8 weeks brings us to the beginning of the tour. Maybe the Stones are still thinking they can save the later dates and reschedule the beginning shows at the end like they did with the last tour.

I am very impressed by our moderator's contribution here. BV has handled all this, straight from the beginning, with such a care, seriousness and professionalism, that most of the world leaders should learn something from him.

And the discussion has been civil and accurate. Surely there've been, especially during the early days, some internet warriors who love a bit too much their own opinion and who typically lack the judgment to know when it is or is not appropriate to voice all the crap one @#$%& does, but that's business as usual in social media.

Very true. If they wait until early April, i.e. a couple of weeks more, then they will know more about the summer situation.

The world economy is now at a crisis, they will need time to see if it is possible to charge $10 million per show next year.

The CDC shoulders the most blame they have been around since 1946 it has turned into huge bureaucracy. Many companies all over the world dream of becoming a One Billion firm in assets through sales , innovation and just plain hard work. The US congress approves an average annual budget of 11 1/2 Billion dollars with 10,000 employees they also get millions in private donations through the CDC foundation a 501(c)(3)public charity. They get all this money for Research and Developement without any pressure to manufacture a product, bring to market,or show a profit, none. They have had 74 years to game plan for just this scenario.
They could have partnered with FEMA another huge bureaucracy with an annual budget of 28 Billion they have thousands of trailers they could have set up for testing. I have a friend who works at the CDC and she says the the turf wars and petty bullshit that goes inside and between the different other government agencies is absolutely sickening. The funding is top priority then the Mission statement.

I blame the CDC the most. They have completey screwed up sending out test kits for weeks in delays, and not allowing private Pharma to develop their own c-Virus tests

Also the CDC greatly restricted who could do the c-Virus testing. There was 5 day (or longer) turn around time, before the patient got the test results. All of this Federal idiocy and bungling has been nullified and bypassed by Trump admin in the last three weeks. Working Along with private companies

Roche Pharma is taking over from CDC incompetents!

Death rate week-to-week from the coronavirus

I have been thinking for a few weeks now about how to represent the main coronavirus fatality in one single number. Last Monday I decided to calculate a week-by-week multiplication factor. This is the number which will tell us if we have succeeded in flattening the curve. These are my numbers from the past week:

China 1x
South Korea 1x
Italy 6x
Iran 4x
France 8x
Spain 14x
USA 4x
Japan 2x

The numbers explained in short:
China and South Korea has succeeded in flattening the curve. Spain has got the most dramatic spread week-to-week, there is a major crisis there, worse than Italy. France and Italy are both having large increases. USA and Iran has both got 4 times death numbers in a week, which is not good. Japan have not been able to flattening the curve yet, but with their close location to China, 2x is a lot better than the numbers we do see in Europe now.

I will look into the same number next week. Hopefully Italy will be lower than 6x. I am afraid many Countries will have higher numbers for some weeks.

My background numbers are below. I have been working with analytics for 35 years professionally, so cheating with numbers is not my cup of tea. I know from my mathematics and statistics background how to work with numbers. If you look at day to day numbers, it is too short horizon. The numbers appear at different time of day, USA late due to time zones, Europe daytime, and Asia long before others. So week to week is a lot more significant. Then about significance: If you calculate with two digits like Japan, jumping from 17 to 27, you get the number 1.6x. Still the last digit of any number is always inaccurate, so the 1.6x is really 2x, due to the last digit being inaccurate. UK numbers are from 2 to 56, i.e. a growth rate of 28, but as the last week number is single digital, it is not exact, so I ignore listing UK until next week.

My goal is to see all these countries go into 1x one week soon into the future, and the next week, and the next week. I am not an expert on virus, but I do know how to work with numbers, and I don't need to lie with numbers, because I am not into politics.

May be the numbers are out there somewhere already, I do this manually, as I am slow with excel. The main point is I think this is the best number to be used for understanding the seriousness of the virus, and when the world will be improving.

Feel free to comment.

Better than a nearly 80 years old strange problematic man maybe. Not to be misunderstood: (nearly) everybody would be less problematic than Trump. But we don't need an old man with health problems in the White House. A presidentship of Biden or Sanders would be an interim solution at best. Even Konrad Adenauer was younger (although he didn't really LOOKED younger) when he became "Bundeskanzler" in 1949. On the other hand: what will happen if a) Corona crisis will last long and maybe lead the world in the biggest international crisis since ca. 70-80 years plus b) Trump gets another four years. I don't know if our planet will survive this.

BV just mentioned Japan and they are on the ball! Japan and all the Asian tigers have done very well. Tigers >> Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.

Coronavirus: Japan company launches ‘15-minute testing kit’ as government ramps up screening capacity
Osaka-based Kurabo Industries claims the US$235 kits have an accuracy rate of 95 per cent and can be used 10 times to test for the Covid-19 virus
It comes as the country, with more than 1,500 cases and 32 deaths, has ramped up its testing capacity so it can screen up to 7,000 people a day

Ayako Honda, a spokeswoman for the company which is primarily known for producing textiles, said it was manufacturing 1,000 of the kits a day – with each kit, priced at 25,000 yen (US$235), able to conduct 10 tests.

The tests, which were originally developed by a Chinese partner company, involve placing a few drops of blood and some testing agent onto a membrane. From the reaction, a doctor can confirm within 15 minutes whether the person has contracted the virus from the presence of antibodies in the sample. Honda said the kits are also effective at detecting the illness at an early stage of infection and before more obvious symptoms are present.

A snapshot as of yesterday of the virus statistics here in Washington State, original ground zero here in the US, I am in the northern-most county (Whatcom) where we have only three confirmed cases. Our state and local officials have enacted one of the most aggressive restrictions in the country with bans etc. Will be interesting to see how the numbers react over time to all the closures and social distancing measures etc., but what we really need are the tests, masks etc.

Nobody's making money on interest right now, it may be costing them more to hold on to it than return it.

That being said I'd still prefer they hold on if there's any hope for rescheduled dates.

My comment about UK was this:

UK numbers are from 2 to 56, i.e. a growth rate of 28x, but as the last week number is single digital, it is not exact, so I ignore listing UK until next week.

I will post separately measurement accuracy, but in short, if the number of deaths in UK last week was just one off, say 1 or 4, the growth rate of the virus deaths would have been 56/1 = 56x or 56/3 = 19.

Any number is always inaccurate on the last digit. So the 56 might be 54 or 58, and a number like 365 may me 360-369. I use to say, to make it simple, divide any number by ten, then multiply by ten to get the right number with inaccuracy taken into account. Then the last week death number of Uk = 2 / 10 * 10 = 0 ...

Statistics is a 7 years study at the university, but this is basic statistics sort of 101 statistics.

Next week we will have a highly accurate week-by-week coronavirus death rate for UK.
