Looking forward to checking out Minneapolis. Never been there before and have allowed two days at this stop. Can any locals give us some hints of things to do, places to catch some good music etc
I grew up in Minneapolis but haven't spent very much time there in my adult life other than coming home for holidays and little trips...so I'm not so good for places to catch music, beyond the almighty First Avenue nightclub. I've seen many great shows there over the years, and it is immortalized in "Purple Rain" if you happened to be a Prince fan. The exterior walls are painted with many of the greats who have performed at the venue. Otherwise, if you are a Bob Dylan fan you could check out Dinkytown (near University of Minnesota) where Mr. Zimmerman evidently first started calling himself Mr. Dylan, or even take the two hour drive north to the Duluth/Hibbing area where he grew up.
As for non-music stuff, the sculpture garden at the Walker Art Center comes to mind, with the famous giant spoon and cherry, or walks/views along the Mississippi River, or enjoying the many lake trails around the area...Lake Harriet in particular has a small bandshell where concerts are often performed along the water...oops I slipped back into music!
