As far as Ticketmaster and the Stones go, a reseller trying to flip tickets for profit still represents a sold ticket for them. A "normal ticket" was sold, money exchanged hands, end of story. Whatever the resellers then do or don't do is their business. If they choose to list their tickets on Ticketmaster, Ticketmaster pockets a commission for each sale. But the ticket is already spoken for. The reseller sells them, uses them or "eats" them (if they made enough money for other tickets)

Not sure how it works for the pro resellers, but I would imagine many took the refunds on their investments when offered.
Perhaps making the amount sold vs what's available even more impressive.

If and when (and that's mighty big "if" as there won't be any UK to USA travel until the FDA approved the AZ vaccine, still undergoing clinical trials in the USA) tour dates are announced there will "magically " be loads of tickets in every section available. Personally, I think it's an academic question anyhow. 2022 yes.....

Not saying you're wrong about the AZ vax needing to be approved before the tour, but I don't believe that's accurate winking smiley.
Like Clapton with his US tour and others, a touring band and crew fall into the "essential worker" category as far as I can tell. Free to enter and to work.
Could be a factor as far as fans entering for the show(s), but like the Springsteen show, that requirement was dropped after WHO approved it.
NY stadium shows never had that requirement to begin with fwiw.

Is there a direct link or some way to get to the postponed shows to see ticket availability? I can't seem to figure it out on tm.com. eye rolling smiley

Easiest way - google ‘Ticketmaster Rolling Stones No Filter’ and add city name. Watch out for fake sites like Ticketfaster. Here’s one link:

Okay, Topi, ty.
With the blue dot method, I see many, many tickets still available, depending upon the city, and their location, of course.

As someone above noted, if you bought expensive tix for multiple shows, you may have turned them in...or not. I have no idea how the number (or per cent) noted as sold (or resold) affects potential for rescheduling or how big a factor that is, given the pandemic, borders and other issues.

Thanks, that link helped me figure out how to search. Oddly, tm returns no results if I search 'Rolling Stones No Filter', but all shows if I search 'No filter 2020'

Just type in The Rolling Stones in the search box. All the cities come up. I just bought two tickets for Pittsburg this week

Elton has the Summer/Fall 2022 dates in stadiums being his finale, which makes sense because he has arenas booked in Spring 2022.

You usually don't scale down (from stadiums to arenas), bands usually scale up (from arenas to stadiums), so that's likely a factor in the timing of that tour.

I suspect despite all the wild ruminations on here, the simple reason for no announcement is the Stones/their management are taking a wait and see attitude to see if in fact travel around the USA with a big operation is in fact going to be feasible. They certainly don't want to crank up to just be shut down again. So likely no announcement until they are certain they can pull of a tour, or as certain as they can be. And if it looks iffy, then likely no tour in 2021.

Still have my tickets too. Didn't make much sense to get a refund for me. If they reschedule, I already have my tickets, if they cancel, well then no need to be on the phone with Ticketmaster, my credit card gets refunded with no work by me.

Not sure I understand the thought process of getting a refund for a postponed show unless you bought tix to multiple shows and/or bought expensive seats up close.

And quoting MrDDDD:

"Just looked at Vancouver tickets to see tix available etc. No tix available for the pits or the sections surrounding the stage etc."

"Lots of tix available, but the better sections with none or few around the arena."

Early last year getting my standard price Pit tix for Nashville and Atlanta required some persistence... it took time and some effort. Since the concerts weren't cancelled, but postponed, the above folks' thinking reflects what my own was.

If I was really going to need that $1000, I'd get it refunded. Fortunately it turned out I wouldn't need it during the past year and a half.

I had a hand I liked, so I held 'em.

We don't have our announcement yet, but I'm increasingly glad that I didn't refund my tickets.

No it doesn't.

"When I booked these shows several months ago, I was confident that things would be back to normal by August, but due to the uncertainty of
the current travel situation and the challenges for a [U.K.] act to be able to perform in the [U.S.], I have reluctantly decided to cancel the shows,"

There were only nine or so shows on the itinerary in relatively small venues including outdoor amphitheaters (Santa Barbara Bowl, Pacific Amphitheater, etc) along with wineries, casinos, and fairs.
If Roger's feeling the "uncertainty", imagine what the Stones, their massive crew, the promoters, insurance companies, etc. must be thinking trying to reschedule massive stadium shows.

a simple and clean cut answer should be: cancel the US tour for 2021 and start planning a European tour for mid 2022

Daltry's claiming travel restrictions for UK musicians traveling to US is his reason for canceling. I've got Clapton tickets for September in Texas, I'm wondering how it will affect this and The Stones?confused smiley Daltry just announced his dates a month or so ago.

Perhaps because the stakes are lower for these Daltrey shows it's easier for him to cancel than to trudge on. Daltrey wanted to get out there to use his voice because he's afraid of losing it, so he was playing to smaller crowds to make that happen. The Stones have a lot more money tied up in their shows and probably a bigger team working out the logistics of whether or not they can make their shows happen this year, next year, or not at all.

That's true, given their interest in playing Europe next year, they probably have about as much interest in fulfilling existing contractual obligations as a band could have smiling smiley

People from the U.K. are not banned from entering the USA.
Anyone from the U.K. can enter the USA if they spend 14 days in select countries first before entering. This has been the case for most of the pandemic.

Roger has also stated in interviews recently that he's a bit sceptical about some of ways the government and health officials are handling the pandemic. Specifically he mentioned a car crash death being labeled as a covid death. He may be pissed off at some of the protocols he would have to follow to do the tour.

He lost me when he made public disparaging US political commentary after our '16 presidential election.

Was glad at the time that I had just seen them at Desert Trip, where I enjoyed their set very much from the rail.
Despite that, I knew I would never spend another dime on him.

At our State Fair coming up, he (embarrassingly) didn't even make headliner status. Shame winking smiley
Perhaps the casino/fair circuit tix weren't moving, good excuse to bail.

To be fair, he doesn't get headliner status when playing solo. I saw him supporting Clapton a few years ago (and he was much, much better than EC).

What did he say after the 2016 election? If I am following you, you likely were not happy with another Roger, Roger Waters comments during his set at Desert Trip regarding Trump and the nation-state of Israel as an apartheid state.
