Starting to see things pick up a bit in terms of concert scheduling for this summer.
Good sign.

James Taylor & Jackson Browne reschedule their US tour for this summer

Last January, James Taylor and Jackson Browne announced a joint U.S. tour to take place in May of 2020. Of course, it had to be canceled due to COVID-19, so it was postponed to May of this year. However, now the trek has been rescheduled again. The good news is that it'll actually take place this year, rather than 2022.

The tour, featuring James and his All-Star Band, with Browne as a special guest, gets underway July 29 in Chicago and runs through August 28 in Holmdel, New Jersey.
"We didn't want to have to cancel this tour that we've been waiting so long to perform together, so we've been working to get these dates rescheduled to a time period when the U.S. is reopened and safe to gather for a concert," they continue.

"Of course we will be keeping a close eye and abide with all health and safety protocols throughout each venue and state," James and Jackson add. "We can't wait to get back on stage and see you out there soon."

Bonnaroo may have moved to the fall this year – with new dates scheduled for Sept. 2-5, 2021 – but Tennessee concert-goers will still have several opportunities to enjoy songs under the summer sky during the festival’s Concerts on the Farm series.

Billy Strings is scheduled to perform on the Bonnaroo grounds on May 28, Jon Pardi will perform on May 29 and The Avett Brothers are set to close things out with a trio of concerts on July 2, 3 and 4. Each of these socially distanced shows will be set up in 4-person pods throughout the grounds.

Green Day/Fall Out Boy/Weezer - The vaunted Hella Mega Tour that was scheduled to hit stadiums across the country has been rescheduled to summer 2021 kicking off in July and ending in late August.

Very slim chance any of this will happen, except the social distancing shows. I just don’t see a scenario where 2021 will have full capacity shows.

They could setup in empty arenas and have the fake cardboard cutout fans, along with the fake fan noise piped in as has been done at sporting events.
And maybe start with an exclusive small (empty) club rehearsal/warmup show to give it an actual tour vibe.

If there's a bright side to this odd scenario, there will be plenty of "tickets" available for every single show - zillions of them!

We have got so used to having The Rolling Stones on tour at all times. It is just like we expect them to be around forever, like an eternal touring band.

For decades they did large tours like 1981-1982, 1989-1990, 1994-1995, 1997-1999, 2002-2003, 2005-2007, then there was a gap. Then they started touring every year 2012-2019. It is just like we can't live without them live on stage. And some times I wonder if they can live without being on stage, performing for us, again and again. As soon as the pandemic is sorted out properly, I am sure the eternal touring band will be back on stage.

As expected, Steely Dan w/ Steve Winwood at Hollywood Bowl on June 8 has been postponed for a second time, and now re-rescheduled for May 2022 - over a year from now.
And looks like the entire tour of over 20 dates pushed to 2022.

The time Toronto held a rock concert for 500k people after the SARS epidemic

Picture being surrounded by nearly 500,000 people, all rocking out to the Rolling Stones after the end of an epidemic. This is exactly what happened at Toronto's SARSstock almost two decades ago.

After the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) hit Toronto in 2003, the city's tourism industry was seriously impacted. This led to the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto benefit concert, otherwise known as SARSstock or SARSfest.

It broke records for being the largest outdoor ticketed event in Canadian history.

The Rolling Stones, who frequented Toronto pre-SARS, were eager to help the city in any way they could. They agreed to headline the concert, which was organized in about a month to take place on July 30, 2003.

SARS of 2003 i.e. SARS-COV-1 was a completely different corona virus as compared to the new corona virus of 2019, leading to Covid-19 (the SARS-COV-2 virus disease). SARS had a fatality rate of 10%. Most people with SARS, back in 2003, were too ill to be out of their beds at all, while the big problem with covid-19 is that many people are asymptomatic, they are not really ill, they just pass the virus on to many others, with higher risk factors.

How do SARS and MERS compare with COVID-19?

From NOW magazine:

Virtual concerts cancelled again with new Ontario COVID restrictions

Get ready for another round of virtual concert cancellations and postponements.

With the Ontario government’s new “emergency brake” COVID measures, virtual concerts are once again cancelled. This is the second time virtual shows and livestreams – recorded at music venues without fans in attendance – have been cancelled. After coming back to life last year, virtually, venues were forced to close again this past January when the city went into lockdown. But they had started back up when Ontario returned to the “grey zone.” Now, they’re once again forced to stop operating.

There was some initial confusion about what the new restrictions, which come into effect on April 3 at 12:01 am, would mean for performance venues. They were listed as “closed,” but did that mean for in-person shows, as has been the case for most of the pandemic, or also for recorded and livestreamed concerts with no fans? After a day of back-and-forth with the Ministry of Heritage, Tourism, Sport and Culture Industries, Erin Benjamin of the Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) confirms that livestream shows are disallowed once again.

Vaccine Passports are coming. But this is what it looks like for now... the latest blog from industry insider Bob Lefsetz.

“ As for the older acts… They’re not going out. The Stones, the Eagles, they’re still afraid of the virus. They might do streams in the interim, to keep the public hungry and attentive, but the prices they’re talking about…the Stones are gonna use flex pricing, for a STREAM?”

Wheels Of Soul Tour Postponed To 2022

We’re very sorry to share this news again: our annual Wheels Of Soul Tour is postponed until the Summer of 2022. Wheels Of Soul Tour 2022 will now be a triple-bill featuring the legendary Los Lobos and our very own Gabe Dixon. Though 2022 is a ways away, TTB is currently organizing a number of socially-distanced, limited capacity shows for this Summer, so please stand by for a forthcoming announcement about TTB’s return to the road.

Tickets will be honored for all rescheduled shows, and refunds are also available at your point of purchase for those who can’t make the new dates.

From South China Morning Post, Hong Kong:

Chinese girl band The9’s first live concert a virtual experience that felt real thanks to extended reality technology

Extended reality (XR) technology combines virtual, augmented and mixed reality, and was used with impressive results during The9’s first live concerts this month
The girl group were able to react and interact with their virtual environment in real time, and met their fans via live-streaming on wraparound screens

This guy seems to know very little about indie bands, who, contrary to what he's implying, are mostly all in favor of the kind of restrictions that keep people safe. Sorry about his personal freedoms and all, but a lot of his logic is . . . illogical.

Today's news is that on 9 April pre-sales for the Guns'n'Roses European Tour 2022 will begin. Milano, San Siro in July. Very nice way to start attending live shows again.
If San Siro can be obtained by Guns'n'Roses it means that there must be a way to manage large crowds even during a pandemic...
Don't ask about prices... Euro 300 per seat?
Bye, Luca

Nice to see GNR rescheduled and even added shows! I'm eyeing the Warsaw show. Cheap city, and the same venue the Stones played back in 2018.

I looked at the Nightrain presale ticket prices and at least for Poland, Early Entry GA is some 120 €. Lower-tier seats are less than 100 €.

What contracts must The Stones meet ???
Posted by: Kingbeebuzz ()
Date: April 6, 2021 15:43

Given the enforced break from touring and the age of The Stones, they must have had discussions between themselves about the future of the band.

It is just inconceivable that they would not have discussed their future because they must still have contractual obligations to fulfil, but I wonder what are those contracts ???

Does anyone know what live and recording commitments the Stones are still contracted to meet as of April 2021 ?

Looks like they still have a contract about an US-Tour since the 2020 Tour is just postponed and not cancelled.

And since July 2018 they have their multi-faceted, worldwide partnership about the band’s iconic recorded music, audio-visual catalogues, archival support, global merchandising and brand management with [www.UniversalMusic.com] . See also: [iorr.org] .

The word around the campfire before was that the Stones wanted to tour in 2021 but the insurance companies wanted to push it back to 2022.

Also, I heard this:

"The logistics company that handles their trucks were receiving inquiries to tour as early as May. May of course won’t be happening but it does show their intent to tour sooner than later."

I remember one of the executives at the logistics company posting a picture of the Stones set at stadiums from previous tours saying they had recently received requests from customers for early summer and that the executive was cautiously optimistic.

San Diego County is now in a less restrictive tier. Note the requirements for OUTDOOR LIVE EVENTS with assigned seating:

• Weekly worker testing program
• In-state visitors only, check for current CDPH Travel Advisory in effect
• Primarily in-seat concessions (no concourse sales)
• Max 67% if all guests are tested or show proof of full vaccination

Apparently there are a few acts on the road, or he lives nearby and was headin' to start a tour, who knows?

Nobody is touring anywhere in the US now. Certainly not an act big enough to be using Upstaging trucks. He was probably just moving lights, staging or sound equipment from one place to another. Or maybe delivering COVID vaccines?
