Rest in peace, Kirk Douglas.

My late father was a fan from childhood and I remember watching many of his films on VHS: 20000 Leagues Under The Sea, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and Last Train From Gunhill were amongst my favourites. The Vikings and Spartacus are obviously magnificent; as well as that First World War film, directed by Stanley Kubrick. I don’t recollect it’s name.

RIP legend !!

Spartacus wasn't really about a Thracian gladiator; it was more a metaphor for the McCarthy witch-hunts in the 50s. A great film, and a great actor, with a great screenplay by Dalton Trumbo.

Dead at 103. Cut down in the prime of life.

Too many great films to list that will live on for centuries.

Great actors in the gene pool, too.

Well done.

RIP Kirk.

RIP.

Not too many left from that era.

The only two I can think of are Olivia de Haviland (103) and Norman Lloyd (105).

He had the BALLS to demand that black-listed screenwriter Dalton Trumbo be fully credited for his collaboration to "Spartacus".

And back in 1959 that was a bold move, a tad more courageous that tweeting #metoo.

A great actor with movies like Spartacus, The Vikings, Lonely are the brave, Gunfight at the O.K. corral, but also funny in Cactus Jack and Tough Guys (with Burt Lancaster).

R.I.P. Kirk Douglas.

Tough Guys is a funny one...saw it as a kid and loved it. Haven't seen it in AGES. Also starred Dana Carvey and Eli Wallach.

RIP Kirk Douglas, Mr Spartacus himself, great film that by then unknown director Stanley Kubrick . 103, what an amazing age to reach in good health after a stroke 24 years ago, just goes to show it's not over until it's over.
