Interesting read. I still listen to CD's and spent many weekend afternoons searching through bins of new and used CD's at music stores for new sounds, old blues, r&b, classic jazz and bootlegs. Lately, I've been going back to the 100s of CD's I have and rediscovering music I haven't paid attention to for years, like Robbie Robertson's first solo album which is the first CD I ever bought and still a great album to listen to.

CD has better quality than most of streaming. Currently I'm subscribed to itunes for casual listening, but I highly prefer to maintain my CD collection of albums that I want to have and enjoy for multiple (forever) listening.

I only buy CDs. My vinyl collection is just that, a collection. I rarely listen to anything on vinyl these days. In the 90s I listened to vinyl a lot. When records started costing $29.99 I lost all interest in vinyl. When CDs go away I will stop buying new music and just steel from You Tube.

I bought a Fijo High Res audio player a few months ago, to have some device that is portable and provides a better sound than my phone or ipod.
Now it's all I'm using for music consumption. I bought some highres files also and in some, not all cases these are even better sounding than some of my vinyls, which I started selling again, except for a few that I will keep.

Oh, and I stopped using CDs.

Yes, but less than I used to. And I rarely buy CDs anymore.

I listen to all media, though: Vinyl, cassettes, reel to reel-tapes, minidiscs, streaming you name it.

I mostly buy vinyl and subscribe to Spotify.

I used to have a mac and the DVD drive just refused to work after 2 years. It would pick them up, give them a spin and just throw them back at me. I suspected a software issue. It coincided both with the end of warranty and the release of a newer model which was no longer equipped with a DVD drive. Peculiar but it didn't bother me too much so I guess I gave up on CDs rather easy.

I'm old. I still prefer physical media.

I still read. Books are made of paper. Kindle is convenient, but it isn't the same. I don't think someone reading me a story on audible counts as me reading. It didn't when I sat on my mom's lap. It doesn't now.

Still buying and listening . Have a lot of fun digging the used bins.

Yes I do listen to CDs, because I have so many allready, especially bootlegs. I don't like e-books, and I don't like listening to the computer, when it comes to albums or concerts I listen to a lot.....us old folks need something physical that one can pick up, hold, throw out the window, place in a shelf.....otherwise it just ain't real

I do prefer the sound of vinyl, and I do buy vinyl despite the heavy prices these days. But....they get worn when one play them. Not the case with CDs.
So I always have to buy both CDs and vinyls - I WANT the vinyls but I NEED the CDs.

It's a curse.......just like some real nice white leather dining chairs I bought. But after a couple of days, I didn't dare to use them.....what if I spoilt tomatoes, salmon grease or something?
So I had to buy similiar black ones, while the white nice ones are forbidden fruit, nobody is allowed to sit in that section !

I buy and listen to cd's all the time - car, home, studio, wherever.
I also occasionally buy and still listen to vinyl (my collection is massive), though only at my studio where my setup is.
As for streaming/digital, etc. - rarely.

EDIT: Forgot to add cassettes! Still have hundreds - many mix tapes I used to make. Just listened to official Exile on cassette the other day.
Still listen occasionally on a boom box at studio, and also in my work van which has a cassette player vintage '97.

I think I bought my last CD back in 2009, around the time I first got high speed internet at home.

I do listen to Vinyl, cassettes and cd's, but do find cd's more vulnerable than the others

I still own my vinyl collection, half of which is on cd now, since I started buying cds in the late 80s. Everything I want to have in my collection I buy on cd, there's no fun in streaming. I would prefer vinyl, except for the scratches (especially a problem with classical music). And I still use my cassettetapes that I keep in old shoeboxes.
Nowadays nothing much of interest comes out for me, so instead of 50 to 60 cds a year, it's gone down to 5 or 6 a year and that includes dvds and blurays (which means filmed concerts).
My other great pastime: books are paper, no fun in reading from a screen.

Not for nothing did I use the word collection. Streaming and stuff is as if it has nothing to do with me.

Stones collection is all CD. Have ripped tracks that are versions (mostly remixes) only available on Vinyl or 8-track (Some Girls). Also have titles that are download only (Light The Fuse, Totally Stripped Paradiso & Brixton).

As far as other artists, the Streaming era has afforded me to get tons of new and used CD's for a fraction of the price. Caught up on a lot of stuff from over the years. That allows me to get nailed for expensive Stones titles with Japan only bonus tracks. At least I got the Ward Records stuff out of the way.

CDs have been reduced to just my favorite bands/artists, and streaming for all others.

In the last few years there are many, many albums I would have previously bought just so I could listen to them that now are just streamed as I don't need to collect them. But I still need physical albums for favorites, especially the Stones of course.

Just ordered 2CD/BluRay 'Bridges to Buenos Aires' in fact. <---I thought I might get it for Christmas or for my birthday (which I share with Mr. Mick Taylor!) but alas, so I'm buying myself!

I've gotten rid of a lot of my excess CDs through the years, but I plan on keeping the full collection of Beatles, Stones and other bands I love. Vinyl is always important too in my opinion. But to be honest lately I'm being lazy and playing music with my hard drive. I like to add artwork into the folders so it's good for me. Plus I have a Marantz stand alone DAC with Sennheiser 650HD headphones. I'm pretty happy with this.

easier to take anywhere..home..
car … party...and you often get
bonus tracks..demos..alt versions etc ….

Still buy records but the price sometimes
is staggering … they get damaged easily...$stylus$
and alotta times as in thee ole days the vinyl quality is poor …

I listen to music every way I can. digital flies LPs CDs and even the very rarely used audio cassettes.

Got rid of all my CDs years ago except the Stones’. Do own vinyl, but rarely touch them. All digital for me.

I don’t even own a CD player anymore. I guess technically I could play them on my Blu-ray but I don’t. And I do not buy CDs anymore they are a total rip off. They do not last nearly as long as were promised, they often sound bad, and are more and more or less desirable. For me it’s vinyl or digital. I got rid of most of my CDs last year but still have a collection of rare collectibles. It’s interesting when you go into used record stores CDs not sought after. The price of CDs have come down as well but they are still rip off.

I started with vinyl, I became a reggae specialist in about 1978 and vinyl was and is the standard in that genre, more then than now certainly, and I remain with vinyl as my preference. Though I probably have a thousand or two CDs, and I actively seek them out when as Mr Rockman noted they contain bonus tracks vs the vinyl editions. To some degree I agree with the "vinyl is to collect, CDs are to play" philosophy.

But quite contrary to all that snobbism, what my typical MO has been from way back was I would get the record(s), then immediately transfer them to reel to reel at 3 3/4 or 7 1/2 ips, and then listen to that source, saving the record from too much wear through playing. Later when cassette technology caught up, I started using them, although "important" recordings went to the RtoR also.

And in doing so I would usually delete the songs I didn't much care for on the first couple of listenings.

That's why I cannot remember how Emotional Rescue goes, I suppose. But I also never heard a lot of music that later when I finally heard it, it came as a surprise that I liked it!

And today I find that the first thing I do is digitize whatever source I have (of course CDs are "digital" but nowadays that's not the meaning of "digital" as we know), generally to hi res MP3 (a contradiction in terms), because frankly most of my listening is on the road and what with the road noise and all, mp3 is fine for my ears. A benefit of this is when I put the actual vinyl or cd on my real system, heavily balanced for reggae listening, and crank it up, its like I have never heard it before.

And I think CDs have come down to reasonable levels especially if you shop around, and I think they have lasted well...I don't really have any or many that have deteriorated or refused to play, and I have an excess of Jamaican questionable product...you would think those would go first.

Even today though I try to pick up vinyl copies especially if the release is something special or if the CD version doesn't contain significant additions.
Then usually I see the CD somewhere really cheap and grab it at that point.

I have 1000s of CDs as I gave all my vinyl to my brother in law and started buying CDs when they first appeared (Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits being my first) but nowdays, apart from The Stones and Springsteen, I just NEVER get them off the shelves. Everything I want to hear is now on my phone, and bluetooth and Carplay in my Golf give me that access.

Went back in the early 2000s and re-bought all my vinyl (much to the wife's amusement) as at home I'll only play vinyl as I LOVE the scratches and static! Brings back my youth!

I subscribe to Apple Music, If I want the hear something "new" I'll listen that way when on the move.

Time to cull my CDs - savagely. Who takes them? The tip, I guess...

They're still in the mix. I like physical products, with cover art, and I can play CDs at home, in the office, and in the car. But I also have use for vinyl and hi-res files at home. I even use mp3s to play in the car and office.

I still listen to cds. I do own alot of CDs,got boxes of them. Got one box just Stones boots. I prefer CDs to vinyl. All my CDs from 90s sound as great as I first got them. I just got a Nightranger CD at Christmas.
