OT - Mike Campbell's "Dirty Knobs" to release album and tour

I've been a big fan of Mike Campbell ever since I heard Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" and while I wasn't too impressed by his joining of "Fleetwood Mac" he's back with some cool new music, namely "Wreckless Abandon" from the upcoming similarly titles album with his band "The Dirty Knobs". Our lucky US friends will be able to catch them on tour too in small venues !

Here's the video on YT, the voice sounds like...Petty and the riff a bit like..."Soul Survivor" (or "It Must Be Hell" !), what's not to like for a Stones fan ;-)

Never knew the Henley/Boys of Summer connection - one of the few Henley tunes I sort of like.
Yes, he sounds vaguely a bit like Petty singing (with a plugged up nose), but I don't really hear much of the the Soul Survivor/It Must Be Hell similarities, if any at all.

I would go see this show as I have always been a fan and enjoyed the fine stylistic playing of Mr. Campbell

I think Henley and Mike Campbell co wrote Boys of Summer---

but didn't Danny Kortchmar play all those cool guitar licks on that song ?

That’s a great tune and Mike’s singing is strong. I would have cut out the intro and break down and made it 3 minutes.

Both Kootch and Mike Campbell are listed as playing guitar on the track. Danny produced, Mike wrote the music. I don't actually know who is playing which guitar. I would guess Mike is the opening guitar riff and the solo given the songwriting credit.

I hear SS/TMH at 1:42 and 2:45, so the chorus !

@bob r - the music was all Campbell's, a demo for Petty they didn't use, wikipedia has the details. Kortchmar does play on it per the official credits : [www.discogs.com]

& it's good! Maybe a year ago, Ian did Mike Garson's Bowie tribute & it was pretty sad. Margo Price has a nice duet with Mike, too.

Just got tickets for Seattle @ the new Crocodile Cafe. May 31. Mike's a long time favorite since the late 70s. Doesn't get near enough credit for his role in Tom Petty's success. At least in some circles. He's an amazing guitar player.

Saw them in Philadelphia at World Cafe Live on March 17th. Fun show but nothing special. Lots of Petty love in the audience.

I was at the Chicago Park West concert Saturday night. It's a good band. Campbell adjusting well into front man role. His guitar artistry is top notch. Loved his rendition of Little Queenie as an encore! Knobs did less Heartbreakers material than I expected. Great version of Southern Accent I think found Campbell choked up with emotion. Had to be hard losing his buddy. Nearing 69 years of age makes standing for 4 hours for me in a crowd somewhat grueling, although quality live music seems to make it worthwhile. It had been awhile for me going to a concert due to Covid considerations. Hard to beat that live sound experience.

These guys seriously ROCK, and are my favorite "new" band. I always knew Mike Campbell is an awesome guitarist, but never knew he could create such amazing music without Tom Petty (God rest his soul). WOW!!!

I just saw them in a small club in SF. Damn good show. He tore up the set list and played. Show was a solid 2 1/2 hours. Glad I am going again tomorrow.
