"I Can't Be Satisfied" Should Have Been On Blue and Lonesome

The song is I Can't Be Satisfied, Has this song ever appeared on one of the Stones albums ? If it is I cannot find it. I heard a rendition on YouTube, and was sort of a warm up song before a live concert. Mick Jagger is seen in the video playing a mean slide guitar. Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter have a video playing this song, and the chemistry is amazing.

This is a great blues song.

One of their best covers with great slide by Brian.
While Muddy played some great versions with Johnny, the original Muddy version is supreme to them all in it's pureness (imo) - Muddy Waters - I Can't Be Satisfied (1948)

I love I Can't Be Satisfied. It's a great cover, and didn't thy return to it on the Bigger Bang tour rehearsals ?

I also like Gregg Allman's cover of it too.

It's such a long time ago, that you got me confused confused smiley
So I looked up my original 1964 Rolling Stones No 2 album, which I really bought in 1964 and yep, my memory is still fine. But I just saw that Deltics made a copy of the album's backside cool smiley
I Can't Be Satisfied is indeed a great song (also by Muddy), but man, the whole album, after 55 years, still lifts me up way above the clouds. I only need to close my eyes and I'm flying ...
By the way, did they play the song live (I don't mean the YouTube version) any time after 2000? If so, I must have missed it.

The album was released in Januari 1965 (I said 1965 in my misquoted post, not 1964). The fact that the album is copyrighted 1964 doesn't mean much, it obviously was ready before the turn of the year.

The album first charted in the UK on Januari 23 1965, reached no 1 on February 6, only to leave the charts in October.

Also on More Hot Rocks.

This was the first time it was released in the US.
Despite releasing more albums in the US than the UK there is a handful of studio tracks, of which this is one, that didn't get a US release at the time.
They made up side 4 of "More Hot Rocks".

Oftentimes I like No 2 even more than the first album, thanks to this song, among other tracks. For some reason the fact that the majority of the songs weren't their own compositions didn't detract from the enjoyment, unlike Blue & Lonesome, of which I constantly am aware that this is not a 'real, new' Stones record, although I like it alright.
I think they hardly, if ever, played the song after the 60s but I'm no setlist expert.

Good candidate...would be nice to hear a version from 'now'. Beautiful cover which I also first heard on More Hot Rocks.

I never cease to be amazed by the 60's discography.

In France, it was on ... Numéro trois, i.e., No.3 winking smiley

Yeah, that's the first place I heard it in the States. Fantastic, almost liquid slide guitar by Brian. Makes you shake your head more about Brian's talent versus Brian's output.

One of the highlights of the 'On Air' release is a live version of 'I Can't Be Satisfied.' Brian's slide is more metallic, with a rusty edge. Very powerful.

I also first heard it on More Hot Rocks. It's definitely one of my favorite Stones tracks. And I agree, it's great no matter which release, whether Stones or Muddy Waters.

Even Muddy Waters did this song again in the 70s, on the brilliant "Hard Again" album. Stones should definitely do this again, it would have made a great b-side for Blue & Lonesome.

Never saw that clip from Milan before, I only came across this tune from the 2nd hits comp posted above. Those compilations weren’t bad places to start as a stones fan back in the early 90s, plenty of copies floating round in people’s houses then..

There’s Also a cut on the @ the BBC album.

Rolling Stones 2 is a killer album. Down the road apiece prob my Favourite.

I’m gonna leave some graveyard, be your resting place.
Woman I’m trouble...

Love the original obviously more than the stones. But a great cover nonetheless.

Muddy Waters - Rollin Stone
Muddy Waters - she’s allright
Mississippi Fred McDowell - when I lay my burden down
Leadbelly - They Hung him on a cross
Leadbelly - John Hardy
Leadbelly - Easy Rider
Elmore James - Dust my blues
Elmore James - Sure Nuff I do
Howlin Wolf - Smokestack Lightin
Magic Sam - I don’t want no woman
Magic Sam - I just want a little bit
Robert Johnson - Hell Hound on my trail.
Willie Mabon - Poison Ivy

Plenty of room for Mick on all those tunes for some Harp work. That would be my blue and lonesome 2 (till I came up with another 50 tunes I’d love them to do)

Bluer & Still Lonely (That’s my stab at a title) grinning smiley

I'd love to see a second Blue & Lonesome volume. Bring in the guest guitarists. Buddy Guy. Eric, if he wants to come back.

But still very clear that he had (has) a long, long way to go before mastering slide guitar.
