The Rolling Stones All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Track

My girlfriend got me this massive book for Christmas...I've just started thumbing through it and it's excellent. It's 703 pages and is a very comprehensive breakdown of every song the Stones have recorded, including personnel, dates and locations, trivia, commentary, etc.

It was published in 2016. Has anyone else read it?

I did about a year or so ago online after paying a few dollars for an e-book version. Good heavens, an amazing amount of information (with some real surprises I vaguely remember)

you can analyze that all you want, no one can honestly say if it started to rain, rained before or rains anymore

The 1986 entries must be very few words...

Connect "Jigsaw Puzzle" to "Rain Fall Down" and you've got something.

Bob Dylan all songs

I`ve got this one with all Dylan songs and albums, from the same authors. It's amazing, highly recommended.

By the way there is another edition of the stones' book from 2017 that includes the songs from Blue & Lonesome

Just got this one last week, too. It has a bit too much ”perhaps”, ”maybes” and question marks, but I enjoy it very much. A good book to start digging song infos, then you dwell deeper elsewhere, like on these IORR-pages.
Well worth the 15 pounds I paid for it in Edinburgh.

There was a website that analysed every track. Told you who played what and in which speaker they were in.
It disappeared though.
It was 'golgameldeg...'
I'd like to know if its still online anywhere.

I think it was a Norwegian website. Www.godgammeldags.no I think the address was.
The author really had it in for the latter day albums.

And the fall turned into winter
The winter turned into rain
The storm kept on a-howling
I'm out of my brain
I'm out of my brain
I'm out of my mind

For so long - for so long
For so long
So long
So long, yeah mm yeah

I'm out of my mind for so long

Scratch that.
The website still runs albeit in another format.

Great book to have. There's a Beatles version I checked out from the library. There are a few omissions, not enough to matter deeply. I'm sure the information isn't 100% correct, but pretty close. And each song has a story. If you can get it cheap, which I did, go for it.

Seems from Amazon reviews that the Martin Elliott book(s) are better, more detailed and complete. As I only have the Elliott books and not this one, I can't say for sure...but according to one Amazon review, this "All The Songs" omits many things...including IBC Demos, all Exile and Some Girls bonus tracks that weren't singles, and even Little Baby from Stripped. If true....very odd, and makes this book seem pretty weak.

Seems like I'd be annoyed by this, based on the first review, which discusses missing songs:

" ...songs that are not included. For example the IBC demos that were included with the Super Deluxe Version of Grrrr! are not included. There are also no separate listings for the tracks on Super Deluxe Editions of Exile on Main St. and Some Girls even though they are mentioned in the text. However since Plundered My Soul and No Spare Parts were issued as singles, they have separate listings as does So Young since it was originally released as cd single only track. The studio track Little Baby from the Stripped album also does not appear. Under The Radar one of bonus songs from A Bigger Bang is not listed as an example."

JKF, I am so glad you found that old site. I loved the layout of the old version. It was a strange place because the views and 'facts' were often bizarre. But the layout, the way each album had it's own color-themed page, and motif, and sub-sections, I thought was brilliant.
Edit - yes, I went and checked it out but it is not what it used to be. I loved that crazy site!

The book the OP mentions is great. I was waiting for the usual "so many facts wrong" post. There is no mistake free stones book. That is why they are perfect.
The writers have done some other books Dylan, and I think Zep and Floyd too. The Dylan book is HUGE.

PS you realize your acronym is almost JFK?

I do yes. Been using this name for more than 20 years.

Just picked up a new stones book on the "Live Shows".
Dont want to start a new thread, esp a OT, but if anyone sees this I'd like to recommend the book by Viv Albertine "Clothes, Music, Boys" - it is excellent. What made me think of it is that she has another one coming out.

Haven't heard of that one. Will take a look.

I more or less stopped collecting Stones books 2 years ago. I had ca. 150.
Seems in the meantime there are lots of new ones again.
