Early Autographs

Happy new year to everyone,

between 2 tours i work on my Rolling Stones collection.
I have questions about autographs. Its not easy to collect because of so many fakes.
Does anybody know:
When did the secretaries start to write the letters for Brian?
Did Brian signed the letters written by the secretarie?
When did Charlie started to sign with Charlie Boy?
Does anybody know the "Gallerie Etienne Thuriet" or Alexandre Morait? There are Autograph Certificates written by them.

Any help is welcome.

All the best
Peter

My copy of 'Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out' signed by Charlie Watts is original (1970) and the autograph was made around the time and he still did not signe as Charlie Boy etc...
I have just a few autographs (MJ,Ian, BW and CW) and I do not consider myself an expert. What I can tell you for sure is that Ron Wood personally signed my copy of the US "Start Me Up" promo 12" in the back stage, when his tour with Bo Diddley arrived in Milan and I witnessed the worst autograph he ever signed!
If I'd try to sell such an original autographed item I'd be blamed for trying to fraud someone!
So, I totally agree with you: a mined field!
That said, I'd love to have a fully signed copy of 'The ROlling Stones'
Bye, Luca

Hey, you old "§!$%&$§""§$%%&
Happy New Year :-)

TT

Also,
looks like a fake to me.
All autographs seem to have been written slowly,
too shaky. Someone was trying to copy them.

Brian´s "B" always had a "perfect swing" in it.
This one is way too shaky.

Fake, was also my thought. Would have been too good. Have to look for another one.

I was hanging out at their hotel and Mick Taylor signed the back of my ticket at about 7am

a good rule of thumb for autographs: it's only real if you saw them sign it yourself.

buying autographs = buyer beware

I hope not to meet Brian the next time.

But youre right, only in person autographs are safe.

I know this is the ultimate long-shot wish list for a Stones collectible, but does anyone know if there’s something out there autographed by all the original members of the band back in the 1960s, with Stu’s, Mick Taylor’s and Ronnie’s autographs added later? All the members of the Stones signatures on one document?

Thanks for the recommendation Tim.

It's an easy no from me... you can rule them out simply by the complete lack of fluidity. They are written out, not signed.

An interesting concept Stevecardi although in my opinion it wouldn't be the ultimate collectible. Mick Taylor and particularly Ronnie's autograph would be out of period. They couldn't sign a tongue because that wouldn't have been possible for Brian so I guess if you could choose anything it would be a guitar as that crossed all periods but if anyone actually had a real one signed by Brian then it would be a shame to add to anything.

I have an It's Only Rock n Roll Album I have been working on for 15 plus years and that has Mick J, Mick T, Keith, Charlie & Ronnie on it but no Bill. It's one of the few pieces there is relevancy to get both Ronnie and Mick Taylor to sign. I also have a Boogie for Stu album with Keith and Charlie as well as Ben Waters, I aim to get the others but these things take a lot of effort and a long time.

Something signed by all would certainly make an interesting piece if it was finished in the 70's. Although actually getting Stu with the other original five is hard enough to start with.

Yes so true. Also, in respect to the page with Mick, Charlie, Bill and Keith, I don’t believe they would have placed a date (1964) near their signatures. A letter could be dated but typically not a page with signatures - at least not
at such a early date in their career.
