I nominate Run Rudolph Run by Keith Richards, and also Santa Claus Is Back In Town by Elvis. Both will raise your spirits greatly.

Best:
Father Christmas by the Kinks
Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home) by Darlene Love
Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley

And then at the other end of the spectrum, Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney is like spilling a mug of eggnog down one's shorts.

Maybe someone could try to convert the Beatles' Birthday song into X-Mas:

They say it's your Christmas
It's our Christmas too, yeah
They say it's your Christmas
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's our Christmas
Happy Christmas to you

Ah
Ah
Ah
Come on
Come on

Yes we're going to a Christmas party
Yes we're going to a Christmas party
Yes we're going to a Christmas party

I would like you to dance (Christmas)
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance (Christmas)
I would like you to dance (Christmas)
Dance yeah

Oh
Come on

I would like you to dance (Christmas)
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance (Christmas)
I would like you to dance (Christmas)
Oh dance! Dance

They say it's your Christmas
It's our Christmas too, yeah
They say it's your Christmas
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's our Christmas
Happy Christmas to you

winking smiley

One of the 4 CD's in Phil Spector's 1991 release,
"Back To Mono", contains all Christmas songs by
various artists he produced.

The CD is entitled "A Christmas Gift For You".

I'd say Graham Parker with Nona Hendryx

Mom and daddy sat around the christmas tree The kids played with presents on the floor Its a wonderful life was showing on the TV They were all getting kinda bored So daddy jumped up, said lets liven things up I was a big time producer you know I'll make a few calls, make a few old connections Get a few friends over to blow Sam & Dave turned up in a black cadillac James Brown flew in from the south Everybody wondered if this thing would swing But then Mary Wells opened her mouth And oh what a heavenly sound came out Then there was a knock on the door, (knock knock) There stood Eddie Floyd with a smile on his face And everybody yelled for more It was a soul christmas, we got a soul christmas And we gonna rock it right though the whole of the next year Well daddy called Al Jackson then Duck Dunn too Cropper showed up with his guitar Booker T was in the kitchen making Memphis stew Sam Cooke was working the bar Then came Carla Thomas looking for her tramp And I swear the next morning I saw Coming right down the chimney was Otis himself Y'all dressed up like Santa claus Well daddy called some backing singers from Detroit They were dancing all over that room Don Covay said there ain't doubt about it Little Miltons gonna turn up soon Outside the snow is deep and crisp and even And a poor man struggled to the door And standing right there singing songs of deliverance Was Al Green with a full gospel choir Everybody said this was better than jingle bells When Junior Walker blew on his sax They turned a middle class home out in suburbia into a chicken shack But the one big question on everybody's lips Was where is the Queen Of Soul? Is the sweet momma gonna grace us with her presence Hey, when is Aretha gonna show? We got a soul Christmas, we got a soul Christmas And we're gonna rock right through the whole of the new year...

Merry Christmas and a Happy Rockin' New Year to all

No offense to Keith, but Chuck's original of "Run, Rudolph, Run" is the best. I'll happily give Keith runner-up status, though. No other versions are tolerated in my home.

I should give The Roots of SuperHeavy some credit for "Lonely Without You (This Christmas)" but most of the credit seems to belong to Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas, Baby" and that one belongs on the list for real.

"Father Christmas" by The Kinks is great, though the older I get the noisier the song seems to become each year. "Postcard from London" by Ray Davies and Chrissie Hynde is very nice, but too generic to be an all-time classic. It is nicely sentimental hearing them together, though. It probably means most to their daughter.

"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Wayne Newton...I mean Brenda Lee is way up there. I'll take that over "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms any day.

I have a soft spot for Tom Waits' "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" but I understand disqualifying it on the grounds it's not rock or really Christmas.

If traditional songs count, I would put forward Tom Waits' version of "Silent Night" which somehow still manages to sound beautiful with his voice put to surprisingly effective use.

Finally, Dylan's "Must Be Santa" deserves the spiked eggnog special recognition award.

"Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues with Kirsty McColl, as magical as ever. "War Is Over" of course by John and Yoko.

For sheer fun, the Darkness twin guitar melodies of "Christmastme, dont let the bells end". They played the song at recent Irish gigs and the crowd loved it.

Anyone looking for Rock n'Roll Christmas music should look into into the Christmas albums by Cheap Trick or The Smithereens.

Both feature original songs by the groups, as well as cover versions of previous Xmas Rock hits.

And they really rock!
