“It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It)” The Rolling Stones proclaimed with the band’s 1974 hit single – and the English band has continued giving fans what they like.
As Mick Jagger & Co. approach nearly 60 years of music, the band has been busy on the road this past decade as they continue to delight crowds with the magnetic draw to sell out stadiums.
During that time period the Stones have consistently grossed enough to land the band in the Top 10 of Pollstar’s Year End Worldwide Tours list, including its “On Fire Tour” ranking No. 3 in 2014 with $165.1 million grossed and 862,361 tickets sold.
Although the band was forced to postpone dates on this year’s “No Filter Tour” because of Jagger’s heart valve surgery in April, the Stones were back on stage by June.
“I got to work with the Stones when I worked for Michael [Cohl], who worked on their tours then,” Concerts West President and Co-CEO John Meglen told Pollstar. “But they’re Michael’s tours. What was really special was for Paul [Gongaware] and I to go, ‘Wow, we’re now promoting The Rolling Stones.’ You’d like to think we’ve done a better job than anybody else. We’ve definitely made them more money than anybody else. We’re constantly figuring out how to get money from all the brokers and scalpers on our side of the fence. That’s why a lot of our grosses get so good.”
