The best I know is the version of the late (one and only) Johnny Winter

After the version of JJF on Johnny Winter And Live, there was just no point in anyone else even trying.

Aretha with Keith and Ron? Really?
I thought that was terrible.

Aretha's is the bomb.

but, I also like Guns n' Roses version.

"Izzy was crowned...w/ a spike right thru his vey-ee-ayne!!"

Guns coulda/shoulda done an entire album of Stones covers (or at least mixed several into the albums they did do)....

but, only back when they were raw and degenerate and a real band (not the "studio-cheese" that they did w/ SFTD where they were never in the studio all at one time - thus resulting in over-dubbed blah)

i heard a tape of a show by a band called the cover ups. its essentially green day with a few ringers all cover versions at a block party in oakland. there's a very good, loose version of jjf on that.

Yes, this is my favorite and remember listening to it all the time on my older brothers Bangla Desh album when it was released.

Yep.

All noise, no soul. Not my idea of a good Aretha record.

Even Peter Frampton's version was better.

The Peter Frampton version from 'Frampton Comes Alive' imo is really good. It has a nice groove and swing to it, and Frampton definitely made his own version of the song which I always prefer to a straight ahead cover.

Johnny Winter.

Usually I don't like covers of Stones songs, for some reason no one is able to do their songs properly, imho.

There was a Brazilian band who did a fantastic version....I can't find it on youtube or here (was posted earlier in the year)

The Flamin' Groovies version. Their lead singer Chris Wilson told me that they copied the video version with the yeah...yeah...intro.

I guess you must be talking about this, which is indeed a great version and a nice video as well.

Ananda Shankar had this cool take on it using the sitar.

The obscure band Jamul had this slower tempo ultra heavy take on it which was different.

I always dug Johnny Winter's version.

I've never heard a band play just that one chord so fluently, they say the best musicians are the ones who make playing sound as if it's easy smiling smiley
