No Jeff "Skunk" Baxter?
I know, that's wild. Supposedly he just started reading about rocketry and had a real aptitude for it, and proposed a theoretical missile defense system to a Congressman, which kicked off his career.Quote

Jeff Baxter works for Northrup Grumman in Maryland full time as a rocket engineer. Still plays guitar from time to time.

My first thoughts as well. Wouldn't go see them without the Skunk. I saw them numerous times in the 70s and they were great live. But they need Skunk

Yep, saw their farewell tour (the first time I ever heard that used) in 1982!
Didn't have Tom though.

While he is a virtuoso and was an integral part of the band for a period in the '70's, their first couple of albums without him weren't too shabby. Songs like Listen to the Music, Rockin' Down the Highway, and their cover of Jesus is Just Alright, etc. are essential Doobie Brothers imo. And the period after he left isn't too shabby either. Even though they didn't have quite as many memorable tunes (or any ha), they did continue to be good live.
All that said, while I'd be happy to see this new reunion tour (at a reasonable price), I'd be beyond thrilled to see them if Jeff was part of it.
