Jeff Baxter works for Northrup Grumman in Maryland full time as a rocket engineer. Still plays guitar from time to time.

I know, that's wild. Supposedly he just started reading about rocketry and had a real aptitude for it, and proposed a theoretical missile defense system to a Congressman, which kicked off his career.

I wasn't sure how active he still was as a musician...I thought maybe the 50th anniversary would lure him back out on the road.

Yep, saw their farewell tour (the first time I ever heard that used) in 1982!

Didn't have Tom though.

I saw them in '80 or '81 in Honolulu, but can't find any info. about it anywhere online.
Defintiely no Tom and no Skunk, but Pat Simmons and pretty sure Michael McDonald.

My first thoughts as well. Wouldn't go see them without the Skunk. I saw them numerous times in the 70s and they were great live. But they need Skunk

Oh man, if Skunk were part of it this would really be something. That thought never even crossed my mind cause I just thought Jeff got out of professional music awhile ago. Or at least not doing it on any sort of grand scale.

While he is a virtuoso and was an integral part of the band for a period in the '70's, their first couple of albums without him weren't too shabby. Songs like Listen to the Music, Rockin' Down the Highway, and their cover of Jesus is Just Alright, etc. are essential Doobie Brothers imo. And the period after he left isn't too shabby either. Even though they didn't have quite as many memorable tunes (or any ha), they did continue to be good live.

All that said, while I'd be happy to see this new reunion tour (at a reasonable price), I'd be beyond thrilled to see them if Jeff was part of it.

Never seen 'em. Had tickets to see them, 40 years ago, when they headlined one of those No Nukes concerts at MSG, but when it got to be after midnight, and they still hadn't appeared, I split. Had to catch a train back to Long Island 'cause I had classes in the morning.

Classes in the morning. Sounds so weird to say that now that I'm 60 years old.

I always liked the Doobies, but never saw them - would be interested if by any chance they added a UK date.

I saw the Doobie Brothers last year open for Steely Dan.
Both bands performed well, and I thought of two guys: Mike McDonald and Skunk Baxter who were each in both of those bands at one time.

At another SD show I saw last year, Mike did show up for a guest spot on a few numbers.

Good for them. No joke, Michael McDonald played my conference room like 2 months ago in NYC (he must know someone in the building, I have no idea why) so I have to laugh about that. People enjoyed it, but as a music fan it was surreal seeing a guy of that stature literally playing my conference room.
