I'm guessing they have a second wind after the success of the netflix movie "Dirt"
Indeed.

The more I think about it, this could be a massively successful tour for all three bands. Netflix reported huge numbers for The Dirt...their profile is the highest it's been since at least the book came out in the early 2000s, so why not capitalize on it, and Leppard and Poison are reliable summer concert draws in their own right.

MÖTLEY CRÜE IS BACK!
MOST NOTORIOUS ROCK BAND DESTROYS
CESSATION OF TOURING AGREEMENT

Los Angeles, CA, November 18, 2019:

Almost 6 years after signing a Cessation of Touring agreement, the contract is off the table because a whole new generation of Crüeheads are relentlessly demanding for the band to come back together. Following the huge success of their NETFLIX biopic THE DIRT, Mötley Crüe has seen a massive surge in new audience. And the band best known for breaking the rules has destroyed their cessation of touring contract in true Mötley Crüe-fashion, by literally blowing it up.
After 35 years together on stage, and 30 years since the release of Dr. Feelgood, the members of Mötley Crüe parted ways without speaking to each other after their Final Show on December 31, 2015.
Vince, Nikki, Mick and Tommy didn’t come together again until 2018 to participate in the making of THE DIRT movie, which unexpectedly brought them closer together again including seeing them head back into the recording studio after having gone in their own directions for several years. The fuse was lit.

“Since playing Tommy Lee in The Dirt, so many of my fans have said how they wish they could've seen the real Mötley Crüe play live,” said Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) “I never thought I would see the day when this would become a reality. But the fans spoke and Mötley Crüe listened!”

THE DIRT currently enjoys an audience score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. And its massive global success earlier this year saw Mötley Crüe’s popularity rush to new highs, catapulting the band’s music back to the top of the worldwide charts with the younger 18-44 demographic now representing 64% of the band’s fanbase. Moreover, in the six months following the release of THE DIRT, Mötley Crüe has celebrated a meteoric rise of almost 350% increase in streams of their music across all streaming platforms. However, most of the new fans have never seen any of the legendary live shows that Crüeheads have relished for close to 4 decades.

Do any of these bands have any new material out?
Thought Poison was a forgotten fossil of the hair metal '80s, and thought Def Leppard have been releasing covers albums.
Don't have a clue about Motley Crue - there last listeneable album was their first from 1981, and maybe a couple of decent tracks on their second album, but even those have aged horribly.

I can't stand Mötley Crüe myself (or rather Vince Neil in particular), but I'm pretty sure Dr. Feelgood is considered "listenable" by most rock fans...

Forgot to add IMO, but thought that would have been clear - personally I can't stand that song.
However, I also forgot to mention Wild Side from 1987 which was a pretty good tune back in the day - maybe their last good tune?.

Wild Side

I meant Dr. Feelgood, the album, but I agree about the song.

I see, but either way (song or album, or both), I'm not a fan as it all seemed a bit too cartoonish. Maybe the album was/is "listenable" by rock fans of a certain young age, but I wouldn't say "most rock fans" - at least none that I know.
By '89, Guns'N'Roses were happening big time and seemed a bit more ballsy and sincere vs. most of the other mtv/popular so-called rock/metal bands of the day - Poison, Motley Crue, Cinderella (lol), et al. Again, IMO.

There were alot of naive teenagers back in those days who didn't know better which might explain it!

On a related note, this thread has evoked memories of seeing Motley Crue at the US Festival 83 on Metal Day (day two). They were the second band of the day (after Quiet Riot), and were still relatively new.
It was early in the long day, but already scorching hot temperatures. I recall them playing Shout at the Devil which hadn't even been released yet, and it was like a scene from apocalypse - or a cartoon version of it.
A bit early for that type of mayhem, but they did well and it was fun and memorable. Just found a clip on youtube: Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil (US Festival 83)

Following them was an overweight Ozzy lol, then Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions, and finally Van Halen. Somehow I survived and was able to make it the next day for U2, Pretenders, and Joe Walsh (among others),
and the grand finale headliner Bowie which I barely remember at all - it was a loooong three days and nights and I was hanging by a thread. Even being a young 20 yr. old at the time, it was tough to party for three days straight in the dusty heat!

US Festival organized by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Judas Priest killed at that show. Their set was flawless.

Yes, and they were the true sign of the apocalypse haha...in the 100+ degree heat of the day, I recall the dust rising over thousands of people mixed with heatwaves which were visible .
Judas Priest and Scorpions were the highlights of day two. Van Halen not so much.

Priest at their best. I prefer their 70s records but the album they had in '82 was perfection (ok two songs weren't to my liking). Good thing we can see that show on dvd now.

VH show is available on bootleg, seen it on Youtube. Whole band was either drunk or coked up. At the time, they and Bowie were in the Guiness Book for the highest paid performance, each receiving 1.5 million.

VH's former manager Noel Monk said the US Festival was their worst gig ever. His book "Runnin' With The Devil" is a good read.

Vince Neil needs to lose 80 lbs so he doesn't run out of
breath two minutes into the gig. This will also
help in Vince singing his lyrics so we can finally
understand them like the old days.

The Stones are to be commended for never doing the farewell tour scam. I have a feeling that if they ever did a farewell tour it would really be farewell. More likely is they will just stop for whatever reason be it the law of averages catching up with them or some of them get tired of the road. Enjoy them while you can!

yeah even when he was a lot slimmer in the early 00's he did.

I know someone who personally knows vince and said vince lives with guilt 24/7 over the death of his daughter and feels that was a punishment for him getting away with killing the drummer from Hanoi rocks

They're just jealous of The Cult, who have continued to make stellar new LPs from 2007 onward, with a few tours focusing on some reissues and playing excellent shows.

Shout at the Devil on the other hand is a killer song and album, sorry you're missing out, Crüe at the best!

Nothing against The Cult but it's pretty ridiculous to call Motley Crue jealous of them, Motley Crue can still sell out arena's and amphitheatres across North America as a headline act. The Cult is lucky to fill up casinos and theatres. Motley Crue also sold millions more records than The Cult, had much bigger hits and commercial success and are far more relevant in 2019 than The Cult are. Motley Crue's last studio album was in 2008, it was very successful and nominated for a GRAMMY. They also released stand alone singles in 2012, 2015 and 2019 as well.
Hardly comparable.

Ian Astbury was a decent stand-in for the irreplaceable Jim Morrison. At least he helped (not hampered) the surviving Doors bring their music to life again.

Relevant!!!?? HA! That's hilarious. What's relevant mean? 3 singles? Artistically Motley Crue haven't been relevant for years. Arguably The Cult have been with new albums and EPs and two very successful reissues (not on their terms) and continuous touring.

The Cult never wanted to be a huge act - but it certainly happened to them with SONIC TEMPLE. They had an arc, and they kind of blew it up themselves and got back to being an indie band, which they've successfully remained. They still fill 10,000 seaters and are a well respected band.

Motley Crue is a kind of 'dumbed down for the masses' music act. I'm not necessarily knocking the band, I do like them, and they had great success with GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS and DR FEELGOOD - but their arc basically ended just like The Cult's did but they were able to continue to tour successfully and release albums that only their hard core audience bought (making them into an indie band after some awful results with John Corabi) once they left Elektra Records.

maybe the crue are onto something. just read that the g n r tour grossed 584 million dollars, third highest of all time behind ed sheeran (bleh!) & u2 360. i'm thinking that if this tour does 150 - 200 million, promoters are going to be ecstatic. even 100 million. so far there doesn't seem to be a lot of competition for the coming season. that could change obviously. i love green day but have absolutely no interest in seeing them in a stadium setting.

you hit it on the head....the Crue are onto something....it's called:

MUN-EEEEEE!

would you turn down $584 million just b/c a bunch of internet geeks say you are a "sell out" or that your band "sucks" or your singer "sucks" or that "this is your 12th Farewell Tour"....or, or, or.....

I doubt I would...unless I already had $584 million and could go around trying to sell my crappy artwork or pictures of my crappy art-work set lists (I like Ron Wood, but think his art sux....sorry to offend)

lots of band-dudes & entertainer-types do lots of things that seem to make no sense to us common-wanks....and I doubt they care very much. Think about how many god-awful movies Tom Cruise or Ben Affleck make...you think they care what I think? Doubt it....they're making bank.

maybe the Crue needs the money? Maybe Tommy Lee decided there's not enough girls w/ Hep-C out there after all? Maybe touring is the only way Vince Neil can lose that gut? Maybe they don't know what else to do w/ their lives?

I don't know...all I know is that I won't go, but millions will.

that being said....Tommy Lee seems like fun.
