Yeah Elmo, just saw them too.

It's weird: I want to say I have seen all these before.

These were all taken by Gus Coral on the Everly Bros/Bo Diddley/Little Richard tour in 1963 and were collected together in this book published in 1995.

I managed to get a copy a couple of years ago via Amazon Marketplace and it didn't cost very much at all.
Very much worth searching for.

Staying with the May 4th issue, there's also the point that Bill very clearly notes that it was the same day as the (really great) Townsend photo's were taken.

So, if the Battersea thing really was on 11th, when were those photo's taken!?

I think that Bill is correct that both occurred on the same day, the clothes seem to be the same but Cristiano's post confirms that it was the 11th, not the 4th.

I am VERY reliably informed that The Rolling Stones did play at Battersea on 4th May 1964.

That made me search harder for additional proof. Copies of NME are not (as far as I can find) available online, but there is an online index to copies

If you look at the entry for 10th May 1963 you'll see that it says

Star Gala [Autograph signing on Battersea Festival Gardens]

which to me is very firm confirmation of the information.

So there were TWO concerts in Battersea after all and Bill was right all along. The Townsend photo's were taken on 4th May 1963.
