Exactly. So clearly it’s not about the music, if it were they would be coming back as a band with Marc or Jackie, Sven, or Johnny and Steve on drums. Chris doesn’t want to pay the other members, at minimum Steve, a full band share. I guess the common fan will say oh look, the crowes are back. Any long term fan will know it’s an obvious cash grab. Not more than a year and a half Chris was talking shit about his brother on stern. His wife was saying they can’t stand him.

I paid $100 for second row Sturgill Simpson tickets. Feel alright about that. He's still on the way up & has a great new record (to some) he's supporting. Also has a top flight opening act with another act (Tyler Childers) that is on the rise. I think Live Nation is desperate to fill their venues with anything. Read in the past week where Neil Young turned down "millions of dollars" to do a tour featuring Harvest. Neil said everyone who played on the record is dead. It would've been a shocking move if he had done it.

Come on, the Stones never even pretended to take the high road when it came to commercialism, promotions, or charging as much as the market will bear. The Black Crowes *defined themselves* in opposition to these things; it was as much a part of their character as the music was.

As much as the Stones have stagnated creatively — and we can debate about that all we want — there has been a remarkable continuity to how they have presented themselves to the public for the last 30 years. Not just the core of the band, but the auxiliary musicians — they have pretty much remained intact. They have never formally broken up; nor have they ever formally “reunited.” Yes, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. But who could possibly begrudge such an accomplishment?

In any case, I know you wrote the above with some measure of affection. But what the Robinson brothers are doing is such a radical departure from their previous incarnation(s). If Steve Gorman hadn’t spilled the beans, I would have been genuinely shocked by today’s tour announcement.

I agree with everything about this being a cash-grab.
But I just got my ticket for Bowery Ballroom tonight.
Its almost like, waiting for a train-wreck to happen!
Would not be surprised if the tour gets cancelled half way thru, due to poor ticket sales (they are playing some large venues) or the brothers start fighting again.
I still luv Black Crowes music.

Seen the Crowes at the Beacon, Hammerstein, and Roseland with Jimmy Page. All respect to the guys they've hired but I have zero interest in seeing "the brothers" (as I now think of them after reading Gorman's book) going through the motions, especially at a venue like Jones Beach at $150.

Yeah, Chris's story sounds highly embellished at best. I'm not a Stones historian by any stretch, but that sounds like the kind of thing that would become lore amongst fans.

And the way Chris describes it, it sounds like Bob did it with a degree of malice rather than just goofing on his friends.

I wish I had seen them when they toured with Jimmy Page, but if I remember correctly, The Who and Steely Dan were in town the same night and, paralyzed with indecision, I ended up not seeing any of them.

Well they definitely sound good and look relatively happy. Even someone as cynical as I am about the entertainment industry can hope that they've reconciled to a point.
