listening to the 2 cd compilation A Drummers Tale right now. I hope a 4 cd boxset spanning his career can be released now . the 2 compilation misses way too much stuff

I watched a documentary about him on BBC4 on Friday night (Beware Mr Baker). Not the most pleasant or likeable individual and a very troubled soul but a huge talent for sure, right up there with the best ever drummers. With his lifestyle, he did very well to reach 80! Charlie appeared briefly in it.

i just watched this today. fascinating documentary, very well done.

Back in 2013, Ginger did a run of shows at the Iridium in NY. Opening night we were there and ran into Sonoko, who many of you may remember from the Stones tours. In addition to her love of the Stones, Sonoko was a big music fan, and we would often run into her at various shows in NY, and became friends. At the Iridium, the backstage area is right off of the stage. This night, Sonoko and my wife decided to try to go backstage to meet Ginger and get a picture with him. When they approached Ginger, he barked at them, "You want a picture?" Needless to say, they didn't get a picture, but fortunately they didn't get whacked with a cane. The club manager then reprimanded them, afraid Ginger would cancel the remaining shows. These two audacious women were the talk of the club that night, and the shows went on as scheduled.

This is how he looked and sounded when I saw him in the 1980s. Like I said, he could still really play then.

And here he is in 2016. Greatly diminished, of course, but still showing an impressive dexterity in a lighter, quieter style of playing.
